A few things I learned from building this rig:
1. The cabinet running at 16ohms may not give as much headroom as you'd like, I think if I were to rebuild it I'd go with an 8ohm cab, or something that can run in stereo so I can pump a bit more wattage into the cabinet.
2. The wheels added to the TM212 make it wayyyy easier to transport, but it isn't a super deep cabinet. So the higher centre of gravity makes it a bit tippy. I think a deeper cabinet may provide more stability.
That being said, no rig is ever "complete," and I think this is a great start for my wife on her own full guitar rig, and it'll make gigging/touring so easy. I think this is still a great combination, especially while playing locally when you have to load all your gear into the trunk of someone's car. You really can't beat the weight and portability of this setup.
Please let me know what rig you would build in the comments!
Can you rewire the cabinet to 4 ohms (hoping they're 8 ohm drivers) - looks like the amp has good 4 ohm output.
What if you built a cab, with wheels of course, that was tall and deep enough to mount a full size amp, like a rectifier or peavey xxx or 5150 or whatever, just a full size amp, and mount it inside the bottom of the cab and have your 2x12 or 2x10 above the amp. Basically, it would be a half cab, but the weight would be on the bottom and the speakers on top. Just one half cab. Amp inside. With wheels. And handles. Ya know?
Assuming that cab has 2 Vintage 30, 8 ohm drivers, they must be wired in series to run at 16 ohms. You should be able to wire them in parallel instead to make it run as a 4 ohm load. Hopefully that's a nice easy fix.
@@chrisrohlfsTim allen: so I rewired it!
It also looks like you could move the casters out front to back another 1/2" or so each so you have a wider footprint. Unfortunately, this would lead to more holes.
We’ve missed you, you bald boi ❤️
You’ve inspired me to do this for my wife ... she doesn’t play guitar 😏
Or exist 😃
It’s so fucking cute how excited you were to show Claire ❤
yeah so wholesome :)
You can tell how excited you were to build this for her. Super awesome!
I love Dean and no judgement but he looks/acts high on coke or something in the first few minutes.
Claire deadlifting the cab like CT Fletcher was fucking hysterical 😂🤣
I'm seriously learning so much sbout amps from the comments on this video. Thanks for sharing your suggestions and recommendations! :)
i wish i had money so i could get me all that gear😥
excellent. at some point I would recommend you add some lock washers so those bolts stay tight
I was waiting for this comment
Awwww seeing Claire so happy with the gear after all the effort you put into it made me believe in love again :) LOVE THROUGH METAL
I have a Gator guitar case that's specifically made for traveling since I need something heavy duty for when I have to evacuate for hurricanes and I couldn't be happier with it. That thing is almost 10 years old and it doesn't even have a scratch on it. Good call on going with anything Gator; they make decent equipment.
Those who upgrade rigs together. Stay together. Hope all is going swell.
Those who upgrade rigs together, smoke cigs together :)
i plan on using sweetwater to order my first 8 string next year. never thought id buy one honestly but your music inspired me to go for it and learn some of Archspires songs!
Excellent cab choice sir , that what's shaping the final tone. I've done live setup for professional artist using that signal chain. So much clarity , sits in the live mix excellently . Now he can hear his voice better and hear the chords clearer.
Great call on the powerstage! I use a PS170 to power my kemper and it sounds great and the eq really helps shape my tone exactly how I want.
Very nice build! I have been carrying to shows for many years already only a pedalboard that has the Powerstage 170, Mooer GE200 and a Polytune mini tuner. Zero problems and great sound. Never gonna carry a a tubehead along anymore unless I have a roadie haha.
I love the excitement to do this for claine. It's really cool of you and sweetwater to do this as well it turned out really well.
I think all speaker cabinets should just have castors that are removable if for some odd reason you don't want them on
That's cool as hell having a wife that plays guitar! She's a keeper!
Great choices all around. The Ps170/200's are amazing.
Pro tip for someone who's had to load his 212 countless places. Squat and bear hug it from the front instead of from the back. It'll be less awkward. The weight tends to be a little bit more forward on those cabs, and the open back leaves lots of grabbing room. The top handle on those things tend to be useless in my opinion.
I believe the soundtrack is as important as the video and you did a bang up job curating the tunes. I thoroughly enjoyed noodling over top of them!
Naaaaah
Sweetwater is a very good company. I remember the level of customer service I got from them when I purchased a PRS McCarty Ten-Top. Been a lifelong customer and will continue to do so.
I want a wife that I can discuss live rigs with! My 2 cents-Matrix poweramp-light as a feather and can clear a room. Worth every penny. Grew up hauling a full stack and a 12 space rack with a 1000 pound power amp. Im an old man now down to a 4 space gator wheelie case . Fractal into Matrix into 2 old ADA 2x12 slants (16ohm v30s-so 8 per cab). Small stage I only need 1 cab -carried in my right hand and pull the rack handle with left hand! Fractal is the heaviest component in my rig. Love small rigs! Tried some neo mag drivers in the cabs to shave off more weight but went back to V30's. Great to see a new vid from you two pop up in my feed-cheers!
The Pod GO line out is a balanced output (even though it's a 1/4"). I use.a 1/4" to XLR cable with mine.
Missed and Love both of you!!!Nothing but great things coming in the future!!!GodBless
Very close to my live rig, Powerstage 200, helix LT and EVH 2x12, ive played that rig in venues of all sizes, you chose coreect Dean.
Both of you guys have some really sick looking tattoos
Brother, if you don't put the nut on the outside of the caster, you should lock tite them. The vibration is going to loosen them over time.
That old set up was not broke. Modeler through a Mesa Stereo power amp and Mesa 2x12.
Carrying that thing would kill me too. You know. If I was a talented working musician and had to take my gear anywhere...
Thanks for the update in the comments about what worked and did not. There may be less tipsy options for the casters? Good job on taking the time to bolting them down on the inside of the cab.
holy shit! bro i know her, she gave me music lessons like 3 years ago at a place called “Long and Mcquade” i immediately recognised her face. and i remember him because my name is Dean too! so crazy.
The rig I use for my band live is very similar. I use a Helix LT with an Acoustic B300HD bass head as a power amp and a DV Mark Vertical 2x12 cab.
For the Amp, I plug into the input rather than the FX loop because the amp is pretty transparent and the 5 band EQ comes in handy when a room sounds weird, but I don't want to tweak Helix patches. The Amp is only $200 and is very loud. I don't have to run it past half for most shows and we have a very loud drummer.
In regards to the cab, the Neodymium speakers and fairly light construction make it SUPER light (about 26 lbs). It also comes in a horizontal layout if that's preferred.
This kind of rig is really the way to go when compactness, simplicity, and price are major concerns. The SD Powerstage is a bit pricy, so I strongly recommend the B300HD as a cheaper alternative.
I love the content BTW! I saw Archspire last year in Portland OR and you guys were great!
Same, but I just use a line 6 frfr cab. Power amp is built in already. I'd have a smaller rig if I wasn't obsessed with pedals. I run a pretty big pedal board into my helix
You guys are definite couple goals
That Gator pedalboard looks slick and great choices for the power amp and cab. The one thing that you may want to change is the speakers in the cab. If she's using the cab sims in the Pod, then the V30s are coloring the already colored sound. Using some FRLR speakers (Celestion has an awesome one) will give a flat response and still feel like a guitar speaker - designed specifically for amp modelers.
She can just disable the cab Sims tho
She was literally using a cab with V30’s before. Probably not going to be a problem.
Never said it was a problem, just something to be aware of and might be worth experimenting with.
Which is why i started with "If she's using the cab sims" :)
It's just so nice seeing a couple melt faces together
Her new rig is sick man. Gives me some ideas on getting my new rig up. By the way, absolutely LOVE Misyrion!
This was a really really cool video! I hope the wifey loves the rig even more as time goes on.
I am actually super curious to hear more of it. Future 4LODM videos, perhaps? 🤷
Also.... does her band ever tour around the Midwest in the US? It would be cool to go to a show.
This was very sweet. You were both so smiley the whole time, like lovers of loving love.
Awesome new setup of the Rig. Coolio vid. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
I have the PowerStage 170 with a 2x12 and it blows me away how loud it is!
Great set-up, well done.🍻🥃🍺🤘👍😷 Interesting rig.
Awesome video and congratulations on the new rig!!! quick suggestion: if you haven’t thought of it already, maybe replace the Celestion 30s with two Celestion neo cream back speakers….. or any other neo type speaker? I have the neo celestion cream back, 60 W and those are usually about 4 pounds lighter than the usual speaker. Cheers!!! 😀
Love the different content coming from the 2 of you ♡♡♡ keep it up 🤘🏻🙌🏻👍🏻
This is a paid advert.
@@TheLotusMachine doesn't matter to me, Claine getting sorted out.
Awesome rig Dean. You both 🤘🏼.
Looks great! Very well done!
I still have my POD 2.0, my POD X3 Live and now im rocking a POD HD 500
Best gear on budget for sure
Those powerstages rule! Toured Europe with the bigger one and ran 2 rigs through it. Solid as hell every night
Lol you said “my floor might be out of tune” wonderful.
Maybe bolt some handles on the sides to get a better grip?
Cool video lamb guy, thoroughly enjoyed.
This was super fun to watch!
Could’ve looked into the Laney FRFR cab. I’m wanting to get one for simplicity myself. I also use the pod go and it would plug straight into the cab and it has a DI out! Looks to be solid, but I’ve personally never used it.
Very sweet setup!!
Hey fullas, lovin it , very passionate about the 17th of October in Perth, fan boy shit, but Tuesday is a gonna be total awesomeness, ps bring Claine
Awesome gifts Dean! Wow for real 😁
What's up Dean and Claire!! Thanks for the vid!
Looks good, big fan but You might think about putting some biship tape under those coasters or maybe some cauck around the bolt threads to make sure they are sealed airtight otherwise those holes you drilled all the way thru the cab can really effect the tone.
While not cheap, you guys can pull those heavy V30's out of the cab and replace with some neodymium magnet speakers. They weigh a fraction of what these weigh and sound every bit as good.
Small, out preforms everything in its class is the Port City 2 x 12 oversized wave cabinet with horizontal porting. There are 45-degree sound deflecting panels along the top and bottom of the back panel. These panels allow the back waves from the speakers to reflect out of the angled port along the width of the front of the cabinet and up to the player. The cabinet sounds big, with serious bass response, yet its light. I loaded mine with EV12L speakers, which makes the cabinet capable of handling 600 watts. Overkill? Maybe...
I loved this! missed y'all
That riff she played was awesome!
Nice! Gotta come watch the band sometime at the cobalt!
mmh, with caster , you want to get them close to the edges, at least sideways, cause with the swivel, they get smaller footprint (due to the offset of swivel ~~), and its easy to tip the box over, particular for something that is thin and tall.
i use the power stage 200 into a 2x12 with v30's, and i use a helix lt. best tour rig i've ever had!
Guys love helping their ladies.
I use one of those Gator pedalboard the power supply bracket is amazing!
Couple goals.
Aww how sweet you guys share hobbies
Actually this video is really useful, keeping out the preconceived ideas about the fact that you absolutely need a pair of 4x12 to be loud enough to play in a mid-size venue.
I've literally used a 1x12 60 watt DOD amp for most of my gigs. 4x12 is fun, but unnecessary.
Did Sweetwater send you candy with your stuff? That's the best part.
Loved this, very sweet. Also, SICK tees man. What's the first black shirt you have on (long sleeves with what looks like a mage from FF? around 3 min in)? Entheos tee is hawt.
Awww this is so wholesome. ❤
Dagnabbit, Dean, I just ordered a Boss ME90 like 5 days ago. I should have used your affiliate link! Shouts out to Sweetwater, for real.
The editing had some great small touches, like thePimp My Ride vibes, filming Claire knocking at the door the well-paced background music that you often see on popular CZcams channels. Coming from you, it actually made me laugh!
Because I'm not entirely sure if you did it because you wanted a quality video, or because you wanted to joke/parody it a bit.
I'm assuming it's a bit of both but either way good stuff!
It's great to know that Claire will be all set to play those ABBA covers!! YAY!!
Very nice work handyman Dean.
Also… Pobody’s Nerfect Podcast with Clean and Daire when?
I can’t believe you had Sweetwater sponsor this and she still kept that pod go. But nice job on that Duncan. I run my quad cortex through that. It’s amazing
If you already own a pod go, there's little reason to upgrade it. It's already pretty great.
@@Trentstone121I could think of many
You show in austria was amazing, you should go there more often😆
Good job on the casters you remembered to predrill I always forget that when putting shit together
You should ask people to send in videos of their current rigs and you could do the whole sweetwater "what I would do’ bit in reply to them, as this was pretty cool.
I would upgrade the speaker wire inside that cab. Makes a ton of difference 👍
Also, stereo power amps are best for stereo effects separation with at least two speakers. Stereo amps are not used for two guitars. You can rewire the 2x12 for stereo.
If your speakers are in the same box, you aren't getting much separation anyways.
So meticulous. Mad respect cause I don't get difficult things!
It surprised me when you went with the HK cab. Knowing that you wanted a lightweight 2x12, I was assuming from the get-go that you would have gone with an EVH 2x12. The EVH 2x12 seems to be an extremely popular option in a lightweight 2x12. So much so that it just automatically pops into my head when thinking lightweight 2x12.
dude the Ikea ruler is so real. I recently made a very important measurement for an upcoming move and realized the only thing that wasn't already in storage was a 6" purple transparent ruler that I'm pretty sure belonged to my sister in like 3rd grade
So wholesome.
Did you consider going with an FRFR cab instead of doing the separate power amp/cab?
after seeing what you got to work with now, i got a think on for what i'd choose, probably not what you go for, i'm only part way through the vid. class-d, modelling preamp and my stereo speakers and a replacement speaker for each, it takes 12" speakers, so proper guitar speakers would be a fine swap, maybe a programmable digital crossover, yada yada. they already mount on my e-drum stand... that i repurposed from speaker stands anyway, i only use 100watts per channel, they can take 500 each, changing them to handle guitar pleasantly would be easy.
love videos like this!
Personally dean I was in a deathcore band called risen from hells ashes and I at first had a rocktron piranha pre amp running into a cheap amp tube head that I switched to a Marshall JVM and still used my rocktron piranha
FYI KSR Power amps are sick are very compact. Very underrated if anyone is in the market for a power amp.
Very nice great job
Speaking about upgrades, will Archspire re-release the "All Shall Align" album? 👀
"I hate feeling like people have to carry things for me" dean you got yourself a winner.
You should have swapped the mesa cab to neodymium magnet speakers. They are a 1/4 of the weight and you still keep the killer sound of the mesa cab. You could have dropped cab weight by 40-50% with neo speakers.
When I seen how far in you mounted the casters, I was immediately concerned with how easily it may tip forward/backward. How stable is it?
Sept 9 is my birthday, gig in Fresno, Ca next year please!! I will buy you all unlimited drinks!! Stay Tech!
Dean Lamb's rig building is an awe-inspiring masterpiece of sonic craftsmanship. The way he seamlessly integrated the Seymour Duncan Powerstage 200 to elevate the already incredible tones of the Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister 212 cabinet showcases his keen understanding of sonic architecture. Adding wheels to the cabinet not only demonstrates his practicality but also his attention to detail in ensuring both mobility and aesthetics.
The inclusion of the Line 6 Pod into the setup further highlights Dean's commitment to sonic versatility, allowing him to effortlessly explore a spectrum of tones. His rig is a testament to his dedication, technical prowess, and artistic sensibility. Dean Lamb's rig isn't just a collection of equipment; it's a testament to his musical vision and technical finesse, resulting in a sound that's nothing short of astonishing.
Line6 makes a powered cabinet to use with Pod Go and helix.
Are you using a 20’ speaker cable to the cab or longer? I’ve heard you don’t have to worry about impedance with speaker cables as much as you do with instrument cables. I’m also curious about an amp on the board setup.
Wholesome af. 😂
That is a cool pedal board love the color. And it's good to know 2x12 is loud enough. After traveling overseas I realized it good to have a fly rig. So I've got a pedal board with and guitar setup. I'm just going to plug in directly to the PA if I gig .
Yes, not sure why Claire needs own PA and cab.
@@reav3rtm"not sure why a gigging musician needs a cab" lol uh because your amp needs to connect to a load? What do you do in your jamspace, play your electric guitars unplugged next to a drummer?
@@icankillbugs She is gigging musician, not musician who plays in tunnel under the road or at market square. She could enable cab simulation and plug via XLR to direct input of audio system wherever she plays.
She doesn't use a amp for distortion, she uses amp sim. She doesn't need any load. She had amp (clean) just to feed cab.
Perhaps she just wants to be self-sufficient in audio delivery. It costs in weight.
You clearly haven't paid attention to the video yet are loling at me.
@@icankillbugs Haha, "I listen to BM" elitist guy lol
Sure I can compare. Archspire doesn't travel with own amps, their sound is from Fractals, I think straight to DI. Or perhaps they use stage amps, don't remember now.
I suppose they are pussy band according to your elitist ear.
Cradle of filth used to tour with Mooer micro pedals to get 5150 sound. Era of dragging heavy equipment with you is over. Because in most circumstances it's just pointless.
I've played large rooms with a 1x12. It really isn't about the size.
