This interview gives the greatest insight into Ed and Dave's personalities, who they really are (I should say who they were at that point in time) and what makes them tick (in particular Eddie's interview). Dave's mind is fast; about 30 seconds ahead of his mouth (I mean that as a compliment). This is no better demonstrated than when Dave is describing why he came up with naming the band 'Van Halen' (I love the bit about The Flying Dutchman, even though that wasn't actually the Captain's name)

I find it interesting that Ed sounds like he didn't particularly like being lively on stage. For someone who didn't like it, he was amazingly good at it. He was a natural.

I heard this on the tapes archive page! The latest one they have! Around the OU812 era!

Years later I realize they are just people like us but who are just a little bit better at what they do.

How in the world did Ed sit and listen to Dave riff for so many years? He must have been dying inside.

I think he'd rather let Dave talk . To me , he was more open in Guitar magazine interviews . That's where he talked the most .

It’s about the music. Not the show.
