    Tom I think you are overlooking the scoring side. We haven’t scored any outfied goal on tough away field (Etihad, Anfield, Alianz Arena). those are grounds that we need to improve on. Scoring 5,6 against lower teams is evidently not enoguh. When we struggle to play good, we don’t usually win. Deadly striker/forward is needed to handle those games on his own. Up the Gunners!

    • @TheGoonerTalkTV
      @TheGoonerTalkTV  Před 12 dny

      We didn’t lose to a single big six side all season.
      Who’d you sign?

    • @BetaFax
      @BetaFax Před 12 dny +1

      @@TheGoonerTalkTV The obvious point is to turn draws into wins (in the league). And then add something else vs non big six sides. People are talking about a player that is able to change the game on their own at that forward position, and Kai isn’t quite that player (as far as we’ve seen). It’s adding more viable tools to the toolkit.
      The general desire for a game-changer is probably correct. But, I’m unsure if it needs to be at that forward position. We might get more joy out of a stellar midfielder or winger, while adding a ‘lesser’ option at forward (if that makes sense). Regardless, it’s odd to suggest that because we’ve done well against the bigger teams we don’t have a ‘scoring’ issue (however niche it is).
      And, just to throw the name in the thread, I think Isak has shown why there was some initial interest from Arsenal. I didn’t know how he’d fit into the league, but was pleasantly surprised. He can add a lot to this Arsenal side. I don’t know much about Sesko, but he should be able to finish the chances that we already make - I don’t know if he fills some of the other gaps, though.

      @@BetaFaxwe do have a scoring issue! I hate when people say that! We lost our games because we dominated the first half and cant finish our dinner!! Non of our players are clinical enough even trossard our most clinical player missed an open goal against villa! We need a player like osimhen or that caliber. 1 chance 1 goal. We score so many because we have odegaard topping the charts for through balls and chances created, its like ozil all over again. Imagine we had henry or RVP when we had ozil how much more assists ozil would have had!? Its all well and good we score the most goals in the league but if we have like 20-30+ chances every game of course 1 of them is going to go in! Its UCL games like bayern or games against city where we need that clinical goalscorer. If we best city at the etihad instead of draw the title is ours. If we smash 3-0 up at halftime against villa same thing. We score alot but games where we have less chances against park the bus teams is where we struggle and non of our players are clinical enough and not enough ball carriers and dribblers either. Saka played most of the season injured so i hope he can come back stronger next season and start dribbling like he used to again, but we definitely need a top class LW and striker. Osihmen and Leao/nico.

    • @BetaFax
      @BetaFax Před 11 dny

      @@Slim2Flo While I might have a more nuanced take, I agree. There is definitely a level of clinical that we haven’t reached yet / haven’t got in the side (even, like you said, with Trossard). I think this is in moments, not overall. So, I’d be interested to see an xG vs Goals over the course of the season as well as some sort of distribution of the type of xG we scored the most.

    It's a huge misconception that tall players arent fast, Van De Ven is 6ft 4 and he is very fast, Van Dyke in his prime, Haaland anyone? All guys well over 6ft and very quick at top speed.
    It's because often taller guys have a slower leg cycle rate compared to smaller guys, so they look slower when sprinting. Also some taller guys acceleration isnt quite as good as someone like Traore, Diaby, Mitoma but once in their stride they eat up the ground.
    But then again you have some guys like Henry and Bale who are both tall and both had excellent acceleration and top speed.

    I think we’re at a point in the project, where I’d much rather us sign less players but proven top quality players. The likes that will take us from 89 points to 95.
    Sesko looks a terrific talent and will explode, I just don’t think we are at the point for projects this summer
    We need some transitional inevitably, players that clubs fear. The likes of Isak, Osimhen, they create fear and have this gravity of defenders for them.
    Watch some of Osimhen on wyscout recently on some of his latest fixtures this season and then see where he could play at the tip of a diomand in Arsenal under Mikel, he’d be frightening
    Spoke to Bayern fan and the only player they said they really feared was Saka and you can see that. But when you look at Bayern you can think of many players, Sane, Musiala, Davies, Conan etc.
    We need more of that this summer

      Newcastle will demand extortionate fees for either isak or bruno so id rather we leave them alone to be honest. Osihmen will probably be about the same or less money than isak and imo better. Midfielders there are many out there beside bruno who can take us up a level, douglas luiz would do just as well as bruno imo and villa wont charge as much but since they are in UCL they will charge more than they would have if they finished 5th… if we are serious get pedri/de jong/camavinga we need to stop looking at potential players and look at players who can come in and take us to a new level NOW. Douglas luiz and also zubimendi or even xavi simons i think would make the same impact as bruno for a fraction of the price. Newcastle are ready to demand very high fees so i doubt any key players will leave unless they force it and Newcastle are forced to accept lower fee. 80-100m for isak or bruno is crazy they are good but not that kind of fee just yet.

    I see what you say about Sørloth, and he is 28 yrs, but I really don't think he has reached his peak. And he has a buyout-clause close to £ 40 mill, so he would be a budgetoption until we get the one we need.
    He has never been settled, and now has flourished because managers believe in him.
    He seems also not be to injury-prone, he is a leadertype and he has at least 4-5 yrs in him.
    I've said a few years I'd rather have Sørloth than Haaland at Arsenal, because he would fit our team more. At the national team he has been much more consistant than Haaland, and he is a much better footballer (linkupplayer).
    I really think you are sleeping on Sørloth. I've followed Sørloth since before Rosenborg, and Hodgson didn't use Sørloth in the right way at Crystal palace at all. He was never given a chance.
    We'll see. I allways love your shows, but I would really love you getting wrong on this one😀 It's probably not realistic, but he has developed some Giroud-qualities, and can score in many ways.

    The reality is we need a traditional number 9. I was one of the biggest Kai Havertz critics and I am happy to see he proved me wrong but he simply is not the number 9 we are looking for. He lacks pace, physicality and ruthlessness inside the box. One of his best performances this season was against Chelsea where he scored 2 goals. He missed so many chances in the first half and a few in the second half. If we want to win major trophies, we cannot afford to miss to many chances.

  • @Broughie
    @Broughie Před 11 dny

    Extrapolation of Havertz goal scoring potential does not tell the whole story. Yes he scored some goals especially playing up front. Would another striker (random plug in a name) have scored the same amount of goals if they played for Arsenal? Were his goals in important games like the Champions League or against big clubs? I think Trossard scored more big time goals. Is his finishing good? I think we can do better. I think Havertz does have pretty good touch and does make good runs at time. Just not a dominant striker who places fear in the opponents defense. Not a great hold up striker. Tall, deceptively fast but not really that strong. Definitely not a midfielder.
