    The First Founding Chapter are special and do deserve extra prestige and special treatment. Symbolically, militarily and politically they are the most central and legendary chapters, representing the fractures and disorganized Adeptus Astartes as a collective. Select second founding chapters might rise to promises like The Black Templars and Flesh Tearers, but they just are not the same.

      Why not? When the legions where disbanded to form the chapter's they didn't make new marines for those chapter's. The Flesh tearers where already a thing even before the Great Heresy and where the ones that kill the space Wolves assign to watch Sanguinius.

    I think that while the Blood Angels "Aren't the Ultramarines" they have one of the tightest bloodline bonds, if not the tightest, of all the Astartes legion templates. They are proud and independent chapters like they were when they were independent companies within legion, however they are unquestioningly devout to the lineage of Sanguinius. While the Blood Angels are now just a Chapter, they are still the primary remaining vestige of the history of Sanguinius and their brotherhood. As we can see in the aftermath of the Devastation of Baal the Blood Angels hold it as their duty to remember the deeds and sacrifice of all those of the Blood and not just the Chapter. It also holds that there is rare significance to the Chapter because of the unique Chapter bridging roles that they hold in a number of areas, but in particular with Astorath. I think that while there is a ton of huff and puff when Dante makes the request it is known beyond most doubt that as it is for the legacy of Sanguinius, the rest of the chapters would do anything to preserve it.....And they do!

    @michaelwarga3916 Před 2 lety +55

    I'm of two minds. On the one hand, Seth is absolutely right to tell Dante that he gets what he deserves. On the other, the first founding chapters seem to have a "to big to fail" problem. Think of the blow to Imperial morale if one of the first founding chapters, the symbols of the emperor's might, collapsed. It wouldn't matter how many successors were still running around, the loss of one of those icons would be devastating to the loyalists. In the same way, it would be a powerful morale boost to the traitors as well.

    • @chaptermasterpedrokantor1623
      @chaptermasterpedrokantor1623 Před 2 lety +5

      Just reform it then. Which was what the Imperial Fist successors did when the Imperial Fist chapter became extinct. It's not unique even in military history. The German 6th Army was reformed after Stalingrad (and destroyed again), the Red Army reformed fronts, armies and divisions on a regular basis and whenever the US Navy lost a carrier in battle the name was passed on to a new carrier. The Lexington, Yorktown, Hornet, Wasp, all saw service again as new Essex class carriers. It helped to raise homefront morale and undoubtedly confused enemy planners. Did we or did we not sink that ship?

    It's a bit different for the Second Founding than for subsequent foundings. The Second Founding Chapters were, after all, formed by the same original legionaries as the First Founding ones, and I think I'm right in saying that the majority of the Chapters of the Blood are Second Foundings. It's therefore not surprising that they don't feel themselves to be 'lesser' in any way. Specific to Dante and Seth, the Blood Angels Chapter and the Flesh Tearers were formed by fellow Captains, the first and fifth respectively, both of them considered favoured by Sanguinius himself.
    Also, a point about the Chapters answering Dante's call for the protection of Baal - they weren't just responding to Dante's perceived authority, but to defending their Primarch''s homeland and his actual physical remains. Imagine if Tyranids got hold of Primarch DNA!

    As someone who loves the first two books of the Blood Angels omnibus, the Arkio Insurrection is a major plot point of the Blood Angels that most people don't know about.
    So, two literal brothers become Blood Angels. Rare. But one day, during a big fight, Arkio grows wings out of nowhere. The Blood Angels all go nuts, and some think that Arkio is the Angel reborn.
    Rafen doesn't know what to think. TLDR, it's a whole daemon thing. They end up basically having a WWF style fight, and I wish they had a folding chair. Arkio with his wings, Rafen with a jump pack, basically doing the Neo/Smith fight from the Matrix movies.
    But. The side effect was, the Blood Angels kinda had their own religious schism. Which came to gunfire.
    After that, Dante asked for neophytes, and geneseed, and whatever else he could get.
    Seth, the chapter master of the Flesh Tearers had come to Baal in a thunderhawk, probably missing a wing, and the other one held on by duct tape and prayers.
    Meanwhile, Dante is standing there, literally encased in gold. His captains are covered in gold. His line troops are covered in bling. His thunderhawk has TWO wings. And he wants MORE stuff?
    Anyway. Fabius Bile happens. He steals a bunch of stuff, and makes some things called Bloodfiends. Imagine skinless werewolves that want blood. The Blood Angels and the successors that were on-planet have to work together. Seth and Dante are at the shrine to Sanguinius, and basically have an action movie bromance.
    After they win, they all get back to talking about helping the Blood Angels out. Seth entirely flips his stance, and is the first to offer help.
    See, Seth and the other Flesh Tearers assumed that the Blood Angels had become weak. Their armour is perfect, they look perfect, meanwhile everyone was offended that Seth literally came straight from a fight, his armour all wrecked.
    But Seth leaves us with one of the best reasons, reminds us how space marines act. "He who sheds his blood with me, shall be my battle brother eternal."

    Dante's position as the spiritual leader and defacto-lord of his Bloodline is not something he or any Chapter Master of the Blood Angels have always had. In older novels and short stories we see Dante's reputation slowly growing. The Ninth Gene-line is not like the First or even the Seventh. The First Founding Chapter commands not one marine of the successors. But as Dante is so personally charismatic and awesome, he gets this kind of respect. And now with the explicit backing af the Primarch Guilliman, Dante's personal aura of respect and command is near enough official. Now any of the Blood would be in a difficult position to outright refuse an order from him.

      Especially the sons of sanguineius the blood angels have kept such a close relationship with their successors matched only by the dark angels and the unforgiven.
      Every time I hear them refer to each other as cousins instead of brothers I feel it belittles the bonds they share. Brothers may split up when they get older may split up but they are still brothers this applies for the sons of the angel even though not all of them are blood angels.

    I think it would be a bad idea to reintroduce some of the geneseed, some of them have mutation not found in the BA. However this isn't an unheard of thing as the Imperial Fist were wipedout to a man and was rebuilt from 2nd founding stock.

    Would all the chapter masters of the blood gathered together if Seth had called to them? For any reason? I don't think a lot of them would. I don't think they have the same level of respect. Sure some might but not nearly as many. That's the importance of the Blood Angels they can call all the sons together and they might be the only chapter that can and that in itself is enough of a reason to keep them around.

    I think to some extent Dante doing this wasn't just a thing of "I expect" I think earlier in the story when they are debating if this should happen that you can see he understood the reception this would get. I think he went into this knowing it wouldnt go down well but this was his attempt at genuinely making an attempt to repair that bridge, obviously it didnt go well because Dante is partially what they see him as and he will come across as expecting because of that.
    I do think he expected it but I dont think its a simple as "we're more important" its more this should be important to us all, we are one, we SHOULD be one, this is our chance to become one... Theresa a TONNE of subtext in this but thats what I love about our Chapter

    I've said it before and I'll say it again, there are no first founding chapters. The Blood Angels are a 2nd founding chapter created out of the original Blood Angels legion, just like all the other 2nd founding chapters. They were just the one chapter that was allowed to keep the name. Which IMHO was a big mistake, creating all sorts of prima donna behavior and entitlement, just because they were allowed to keep the name.

    Seth as cool and badass he is, is being somewhat egotistical and vain for no real reason here. Not only is Dante defending the homeworld of their founding Primarch which would be an insult let alone who knows what warp fuckery would happen IF Baal did fall. But Dante is one of the eldest and most trustworthy Astartes left. Im sure Seth has seen good men die, and of course it annoys him but he ultimately relents because the fact that those other men... are NOT dante.
    Dante's age alone proves how ridiculously strong he is since he's resisted not only the thirst and has been starved for decades probably centuries but has also avoided the black wake and if im correct literally... does not sleep cause he's so worried he might just go crazy. He has been single handedly saved twice by the sanguinor and got rid of a fake sangu that would've turned the Blood angels into a chaos legion. Im not a huge fan of the overhwhelming wooing most fans have for Dante~ but when even Roboute is like he trusts him like a brother no probably more than some brothers *cough* Horus and traitor legions. That says alot
