    • @prestonheldibridle2043
      @prestonheldibridle2043 Před 4 lety +32

@@renderz8435 It depends on gow you define 'better'. Private schools are definitely more prestigious, which is what I think you're asking, but I wouldn't necessarily say they are better. They can often offer an environment that may better prepare students for many aspects of college/university, but there are also a lot of issues regarding private schooling. 'Private school' is a term that includes any school that runs on private dollars rather than public funding, which means they dont have to follow a lot of rules that are attached to federal and state money. This can mean creating a really creative and educationally sound program for the students that would have been financially impossible otherwise, or, it can mean a rigid, restrictive environment that teaches based on the worldviews of donors rather than current science or educational standards, and can be harmful to many students. Because they are privately funded and often require paid tuition, only fairly wealthy families can send their children to private schools, unless a student is awarded a scholarship. This often creates a more homogeneous student body in terms of class than would be found at most public schools. So, a student that attended a private school would generally have a lot more opportunities open to them regarding future schooling/career. I, however, would probably never send my kids to a private school even if I had the money to. I think there are some things that can only be learned when you are raised in a space with people of different backgrounds and beliefs. It is important to note that depending on the area, a private school may be the best and safest option. Again, the US is so big that a rural town in, let's say, the Bible Belt, is going to be much different than a small city in northern California, or a suburb outside Philadelphia, or the inner city of Chicago.

(Keep in mind: this is a generalization and your school may or may not have these)
    - cops patrolling the hallways
    - an American flag hanging in every classroom
    - fights during lunch or randomly out in the hallways
    - screaming or shouting either from the hallway or another classroom and you don’t really question it
    - standing for the pledge of allegiance every fucking morning
    - SPIRIT WEEK

    - drills in the case of: school shooter, fire, tornado, etc

This thing about American public schools is that your experience GREATLY depends on the type community you come from. The difference between a public school in a rich area and a public school in a struggling area is crazy. Everything from teachers, lunches, school supplies, types of students (rich schools tend to be predominantly white), and graduation rates are wildly different.

Tbh I’ve gone to three different high schools. One was rich, one was a homeschool, and the other was in a poor/average area. I will say that at the rich school kids did a LOT more drugs and in general cared a lot less about grades but more cared about getting into college. In the poorer area less did drugs but more teen pregnancy’s, grades are better but graduation rate lower. I will also say I preferred the kids and students in the average/poor area school... they all just cared more about each other. Really it depends directly on the community (town/city) and less on the overall rich or poor imo. Let it be known tho that in the rich school the state it was marijuana was legal and a lot easier to get ur hands on if ur young. In the poorer area it was illegal... and for the most part kids would joke about doing drugs but actually get disgusted at anyone who did them. Of corse it really just depends...

People tend to assume private schools are proper and whatnot but it all just depends on what school you go to. Not all are the same. The guys in my grade do "bird calls/noises" (its actually just them randomly screaming we just call it that cause we had a strict old lady sub complain to our teacher about us making "bird calls") they will just randomly scream in classes, the hallways, at games, and especially at lunch and the teachers have given up trying to stop us and the rest of the school has gotten used to it as well. so we'll just be casually eating lunch and there is a random (very strange) scream, but nobody notices anymore you just continue your conversation or whatever lol (we're sophomores btw, we're just really immature)

I almost wished high school vlogs were more common when I was in middle school so I knew what I was getting myself into 😂
My high school was a religious, all girls, college preparatory school (even though I wasn’t religious it seemed to be a really good school)
It started at 8 and ended at 2:20, we had 4 classes that were 1 hour and 15 minutes log, half an hour for lunch and a 55 minute break/study period between first and second period and the cafeteria was open for breakfast and stuff
It was pretty free cause upperclassmen could leave early if they had no classes and seniors could come late and leave in the middle and come back if they had no classes and cellphones were allowed in class but most people used them for class purposes and not fooling around
The classes were extremely hard though and I had 8 hours of homework/week night and 20+ hours of studying/homework on the weekends. I didn’t even take any AP classes
But I guess it’s making university extremely easy cause now, I put in so little effort to have a 4.0 GPA but it makes college really weird

These high schools are so calm. The one I went to had about 1800 students when max capacity was 1000. There was a lot of violence because of the crowding and the socio-economic standing of the student makeup. It was extremely underfunded so things weren't really maintained the way they should have been...Most high schools aren't like these ones in the videos tbh

every school here in Australia has a uniform, but one private school I went to was extremely formal and went all out with teachers dressed in these black robes with the principals difference only being a red stripe in the middle. we had hour long assemblys with a music solo every week, sang religious songs every week and sat in a huge hall with chairs for every single student. we had prefects and everything, it was an amazing experience. (there was a street of restaurants next to the school so seniors were extremely lucky, year 11-12)
our celebration night was held at Hamer Hall near Flinders Street in the city, everything was so professional and the school orchestra mainly consisted of music scholarship students (last year we had a song writer write a song for us, song is called Within Reach). We had a year level center (entire building or large room dedicated to a single year level that has lockers and sometimes tables and chairs) and years 10-12 get a kitchen so we could cook lunch at school (most schools in Melbourne have this, even public ones).cWe even had real food in our canteen which was like a mini café.
But there are even more modern schools such as Hailybury (city campus) where they outright look like an office building with a school canteen like a restaurant..

-We don't have lockers we keep everything in our bag and keep the bag under our desk
-We don't have a cafeteria everybody brings their own breakfast and lunch to school

Mind you, I didnt complete Monday's homework, so I was doing the homework for Mon-Fri plus school work from Tues-Thrus. I had it all done by 8:30, the time I go to bed, then I slept knowing my weekend would be better. Mind you, I was still very ill, stuffy nose, headache, sought cough, but I was a lot better. I was shocked- that public school video...that was my high school. And that teacher was a substitute teacher when I went there- super awesome guy. Mr. D- if you’re a full teacher now- congrats! Also: this school is in rural Minnesota. There is public school buses, but not much other public transportation. My home wasn’t far from the school, and it was about an hour to walk and 5 minutes to drive. There is a highway between the school and fields surrounding the building, so I don’t know anyone who walked there.
I never expected to see my high school here. I graduated in 2012, so I didn’t recognize any students. My mind is blown. Small-town-high-school how did you find your way back to me on youtube like this?!?

I was a part of the magnet program. That means, I went to a high school that was out of my zone, because I lived far from it. Due to this, there were things I had to do. I had to keep at least a 3.0, (I didn't for awhile, and I was put on probation, but at the end it was above a 3.0), volunteer for 200 hours, and be accepted in a college before I graduate, and etc (I can't remember). I volunteered for the office of human affairs in my state. I served over 5,000 lunches during summer vacation to neighborhood children. I did that for three summers. I graduated in June with a magnet seal, advanced diploma seal (meaning I took more math and science classes), a mu-alpha-theta seal (Math honor society), and a seal from my city. (I really wanted the National Honor's Society seal, but a few teacher hated me...). I took AP courses (higher than honor courses). I graduated in the top 10% of my class.
There were no uniforms. Seniors were able to leave school for lunch with a pass. Most of the time, my friends and I went to a corner store for snacks and to have space to talk. (The cafeteria was loud!!). I played in the band for a couple of years. I had a small time job to pay for senior dues (senior trip, prom /after party ticket, cap and gown, diploma plaque, yearbook, senior shirt). I really wanted a high school ring, but that was too expensive for me.
After school was club time. I was a part of the band, the photography club, the art club, the anime club, and I also got tutored after school by teachers who stayed later to help troubled students.
There were field trips too. We went to an art museum, a government science laboratory, a historical site, a place to play arcade games.
I had a decent time at high school. There are things that I would change, but it was decent.

My high school was different in Davenport, Florida. The campus was a lot bigger, taking up to 7 minutes to walk from one class to another if they were on opposite ends of the school. We had about 12 different buildings, a courtyard in the middle, a population of 3,000 in the school, and classes started at 6:30. We left around 1:30 pm. Also one Wednesday every month we got to leave school an hour earlier as it was considered early release day. My favorite class was agriculture 1 and 2. We got to learn about farming, ranching, cattle’s and horses and we got to raise and learn how to take care of different animals. It was pretty cool.

I come from a rural school so only few kids get to do that and they have to pay for their classes (they give you cheaper tuition tho). I'm aiming for my associate's by the time i graduate next year

So, I'm a high school teacher in the US. I've taught at larger schools in the city and smaller, rural schools. I teach in Alaska now. Every school has a different feel based on the location, community values, and $$$ available to the schools. Private schools do tend to have smaller classes and a more structured feeling than public schools.

Charter Schools in america are a mix of both public and private schools. Depending on the school it can lean more towards a private or public school.
