  • Welcome back to the train room for another repair / run session of my Strasburg Railroad (SRC) Engine 1. The Strasburg engine 1 is a Plymouth gas powered locomotive that was the first excursion train in 1959, breaking the 40 year streak of no passenger service!
Today I will be fixing components of the fan smoke unit. It appeared that the capacitor and transistor decided to blow after more than a decade of service.
Enjoy the train run as we also pull a Lionel SRC boxcar.

    Happy Railroading!

Thanks for the video. I have two K-Line Plymouth switchers. One for sure has the original smoke unit. I ordered to boards as extras in case it fails. The other switcher….not sure if it has a smoke unit or not as it’s packed away. But I am now prepared in case the smoke unit or board needs work. Great video!!!!

Great job Nick!! You did a sweet repair. You see, you shouldn’t let a little board freak you again out. You did a fantastic job, and boy, that little switcher pours out a lot of smoke!! Tastefully done.

Nice repair job! Glad to see you're learning new skills with repairing them. It's hard to imagine riding behind a diesel at Strasburg, but to ride behind a Plymouth would be pretty cool at this point.

Thanks so much! They did run the Plymouth a few times and was the original excursion train of Strasburg 🚂💨

Like you, there is a lot about the circuit boards I don't like, but you did a great job overcoming that to get it fixed. Well done...I appreciate you. T4

Cool fix Nick. My soldering iron has a two position heat switch, 15 and 35 watts. I only use 15 watts when working on boards.

Nice! They are getting harder to find. They were selling them like hot-cakes back in the 2,000s. Some were also sold with ore cars for Bethlehem steel and such
