Many quality keycaps today can be troublesome to get-you have to wait for a group-buy, spend a bunch of money to join, wait many months for it to ship, and hope the keycaps look close to the renders. And if you miss the group-buy? Either wait a year or more for the next one, or pay up in the aftermarket.
My wish is for people in the community to have access to quality keycap sets at a mid-tier price point, that are in-stock, and from a company without shady business practices. NicePBT SugarPlum by CannonKeys is a step towards that dream. I'll be reviewing this set, which will be on sale on CannonKeys soon, and compare it against GMK & Infinikey. This keycap set doesn't hit that mid-tier price point for me, but I love the colors, you won't have to lock up your money for many months, and the quality is on-par with Infinikey (perhaps more, considering the consistency issues with Infinikey).

UPDATE 3: NicePBT SugarPlum will be released on Monday April 19th at 11am Eastern for $85! At that price, I would say its a great buy if you like the colors.
UPDATE 2: Pricing will be reduced on launch due to the situation below. Pricing is not final yet, but expect it to be around the same price as PBT PBoW & PBT Notion.

According to upas, the set was design from scratch, but NicePBT took the IP and allowed other Chinese vendors to buy it at a lower rate (CannonKeys paid more than the list price for this set). I have no reason to not believe upas on this, especially since it would be a dumb business decision to try to make a quick buck like this. This is an incredibly shitty situation for CannonKeys.

Hi @jimmynguyen , I tried to ask cannonkey but didn't get a response.
If you have a minute, can you check if the shorter spacebars are concave shape (like the shift keys) or convex shape (like the long spacebar) ?
Does it come with all 3u 2.75u 2.25u and 2u spacebars?

@@ccxu4764 they’re convex. There’s 2x 1u, 1x 1.25u, 1x 2u, 1x 2.25u, 1x 3u, 1x 6.25u, and 1x 7u

The split spacebar setup for kbdfans 60%, 65% and 75% all have this 2.25, 1.25, 2.75 setup.
I could use the longer shift I guess, but it's not convex and easy on the thumb.

Any comparisons to how they feel vs other pbt sets and gmk? Interested in these but hesitant given the history or lack of.
Browsing their website i see they offer these as Doubleshot now. Which means they don't need to reverse dye-sub the modifiers. Then are also a lot thicker now with 1.8mm thickness. Awesome, i think I'm going to try them.

thanks for putting me onto these! only question i have is that do the keycaps sit tight on the switches? I have infinikey pbt islander and they are so loose on my switches and looking down on the board the keycaps look wobbly, hoping these aren't like that, thanks!
Sorry to hear about your Islander, I also have Islander but those are tight on the switches. With the SugarPlum set I got the keycaps were also tight

They sold NicePBT Elderberry for 75 USD, which is nearly half the price and the legends look amazing, colours are great. Couldn't be happier with them frankly.
What do you think is better? Ifk or nicepbt
I love this set and I was gonna buy it but I got my keyboard and switches first then saved up again and now there sold out :(

Have you tried Mistel keycaps? I heard they are very similar to the quality of NicePBT. They are only 50 dollars so if they are of the same quality maybe they will be budget keycaps we’ve been looking for?

how are the homing bars on this? I have noticed that the manu for NK's PBT sets have really short homing bars (height wise) and they're practically imperceptible, and personally that just throws me off when touch typing. Also I've noticed that the keycaps in general are less-scooped than GMK or ePBT, is that also a thing with this keyset in particular?
Haven't tried the NK PBT sets, but I find the homing bars to be more prominent vs Infinikey (they are barely there for Infinikey), but not as much as GMK.
I got some keycaps from amazon g.skill something (white). I thought they would be temporary while I wait for my GMK sets. However, I still use them because they make a really nice sound with my tactile switches and I can't get over it. I have the Liquid keycap set from TKC and they just don't compare. I am really looking forward to GMK Bento, can't wait.

It's odd that the thickness in this video is around 1.4 to 1.5 mm but CannonKeys has them listed at 1.7 mm 🤔

120 bucks is way too much, just get a gmk set at that point
Pricing isn't finalized yet, so it may change. But even if it stays at $120, there are benefits this set has over GMK, such as being in-stock and being made out of PBT. If you compare it against in-stock GMK base kits, those will cost you $180+.
This SugarPlum just looks like a direct copy of the GMK Amethyst colorway.
This gets into the debate about "owning" colors. I don't believe keycap sets can own their colors, especially when there are other factors into creating and selling keycap sets than just picking colors. We can have multiple purple keycap sets.
GMK legends are very overrated. The 3 is off, 5 is incomplete at top, inconsistent thickness just like cheaper sets, albeit better. 6 and ^ very misaligned. You can't say it's objectively better than the others.
