I'm Odia. Ever since we were old enough to know what a CM is, it's always been him. It's so hard to describe.
His father was a legend. Such grace. Such bravery that internationally people remember India due to him.
Naveen also had same grace. Although we did wonder why he couldn't speak Odia but this background says why.
The current CM is MISERABLE in both English & Hindi.
Compare to that guess our Naveena (as he's called) was perfect.

1- It wasn't necessary to talk about his non-odia connection here because the present chief minister wasn't even aware of our state anthem even after being a teacher and spending his entire life here. We learn our way through life. Naveen's actions speak louder than his words.
2- As a citizen of Odisha, we had 6 people in the family and we were not able to get enough food for the entire family. Today, our joint family has grown and our entire family eats 3 meals each day. Like he said, when he entired Odisha, 70% of the population was below the poverty belt and today it has come down to 10%.
3- He is such an educated man that he focused more on development and job creation and making homes for the poor. On the other hand, he has also developed temples, roads, airports and what not.
4- You cannot forget his contribution in disaster management. Today, we are not afraid of cyclones anymore because we know this man has our back.
The list is long and a comment can't contain it. Come to Odisha, research more about him, you will fall in love with politics if you learn more about this man.

Many years back, I attended a program in Delhi where Jay Panda was there. I had and still have great regards for Naveen Patnaik while I hold most of the politicians starting from Narendra Modi down to those in Congress with contempt, only its degree varies.
I put across a question to Jay Panda; he was quite defensive about average politician but also was pleased with what I thought about Naveen Patnaik.
However, their relations soured for reasons that could be political, semi-political and related with some anomalous act on the business front by Panda family, or personal reasons.
I got to come across some comments of Jay Panda about Naveen Patnaik, even before he migrated to the BJP, that weren't pleasant. On the day, the successor of Naveen Patnaik took oath and he walked on to the Oath taking venue, Jay Panda was also there and gave a stony appearance, which could be because none of the better known leaders in National Politics from Orissa, many could have aspired to lead the BJP state Govt in Orissa, were considered for the prized post and have fallen by the wayside and will ever remain there.
What's the reality? A distant observer like me can only guess and only be surprised with the developments!

However, I believe he could have developed his successor from within Orissa in if not 20 years then in the last 5 or 10 yrs who could've taken the state ahead in the path he had placed the state in instead of letting Modi outsmart him and the state go to a PRACHARAK like him.
I don't know any state leader who functioned in state Govt/assembly but I was impressed with articulate Pinaki Mishra and even Jay Panda until the guy became a supplicant of Modi! For me, anyone who can stoop the level of Modi is nothing but dirt!

Let me correct you, the grievance cell building is actually the official CM residence of Od Govt. It was used by the CMs before Mr Pattnaik became the CM. Very few people are actually aware of it because for last 24 years it remained unoccupied.

There are people who were supporting pandian too as his mind changed Odisha's capital Bhubaneswar. We can see the developments done in Bhubaneswar since last 5years. But unfortunately no one is talking about the good side. Pandian was the IAS officer in Ganjam district during Phailin 2013 what a great job he did. Naveen babu also said clearly that he is not his successor. But i think it is too late to discuss.

Mother tongue doesn’t mean your mother’s language, it means the tongue that you would call native, the tongue that you would say is native to your culture. In this case, it could be both Punjabi and Odia.

Mother tongue is what your native language.. basically in our patriarchal society it's on the basis of father's side. So Naveen Pattnaik's mother tongue is Odia while Aparajita Sarangi though Bihari by birth became Odia by marriage so is Mridula Thakur who was Himachali by birth but became Odia by marriage and their kids mother tongue will be Odia not Hindi.
