- This mod is incredible, and is a really uniquely fun RTS to play. The knowledge that the Covenant are just going to destroy us in a stand up fight, and that we need to bring entire hordes of ships to bear to bring down a single one of their vessels, it's great. For Humanity, we Held the Line. Also a good name for a UNSC ship.
This was edited by another editor, Foehammer, who played in the match with us, the same guy that did the Men of War 40k video. Boy is it brilliant. I really loved this video, especially the split between the attempts. Also, this was recorded many months ago.
The cinematics were from Halo: Reach and Halo Wars.
This game is a mod called Sins of the Prophets for the game, Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion.

'Three dozen Covenant ships-big ones, destroyers and cruisers-winked into view in the system. They were sleek, looking more like sharks than starcraft. Their lateral lines brightened with plasma-then discharged and rained fire down upon Jericho VII.
The Chief watched for an hour and didn’t move a muscle.
The planet’s lakes, rivers, and oceans vaporized. By tomorrow, the atmosphere would boil away, too. Fields and forests were glassy smooth and glowing red-hot in patches. Where there had once been a paradise, only hell remained.
“Make ready to jump clear of the system,” the Captain ordered.
The Chief continued to watch, his face grim.
There had been ten years of this-the vast network of human colonies whittled down to a handful of strongholds by a merciless, implacable enemy. The Chief had killed the enemy on the ground-shot them, stabbed them, and broken them with his own two hands. On the ground, the Spartans _always_ won.
The problem was, the Spartans couldn’t take their fight into space. Every minor victory on the ground turned into a major defeat in orbit.
Soon there would be no more colonies, no human settlements-and nowhere left to run.'
-The Fall of Reach
Ironic, that the weapon created to take out the Insurrection in one fell swoop (successfully prior to 343i fucking up everything by pretending the terrorists were popular freedom fighters) was the right weapon for the wrong war. They’d have been better off using a bunch of ODSTs or sticking to the Orion Program and work on building next generation ship weapons.
…I don’t think that’s 343i necessarily retconning anything, to be honest. Like, yes, the innies were terrorists, but…have you actually rhought about what the UNSC is?
@Server Meta damn right, just use the planet instead!
@midgetydeath The idea that revolutionaries can be the bad guys doesn't suit the US government. Surprise surprise.

"Multiple pings below the orbital defense grid."
"They're everywhere!"
"Must be the entire Covenant fleet!"

This mod is so fascinating balance-wise. It's asymmetrically balanced, so that the UNSC is almost comically weak early-game, and nearly unstoppable late-game. It really creates the feeling of a "desperate fight for survival," as you try to hold back what seems like a never-ending horde. The only battles you "win" are pyrrhic victories. As you slowly level up the tech though, your economy gets more powerful, and you get stronger ships. Eventually, you are fighting on even footing, and even winning, against the covenant.
A lot of people complain about the balancing, but I love it. It totally captures the nature of the war as it progresses. It goes from a bleak, near-suicidal war for survival, sending waves and waves of ships just to try and buy time, to a massive war between two superpowers.
god I still had nightmare playing as the UNSC. But definitely make for a very memorable gameplay.
And then to a stompfest where the COVENANT are running scared. And then the plot goes off the rails because some dumbass killed the Didact too soon.
@@KopperNeoman 'yes'. in the Gameplay portrayals (etc) of that halo 04 era of this franchise's Timeline anyways.

...I'm suddenly reminded of American submariners in WW2 that had torpedoes that were about as likely to detonate as they were to jump out of the ocean and transform into ninjas that would kill the Japanese crew. There are some accounts of American submariners sneaking up to Japanese ships, getting into firing range, braving the risk of being found and sunk by depth charges... only to launch upwards of a dozen torpedoes only to hear every single one of them bounce harmlessly off the hull instead of exploding. Imagine how disheartening that had to have been.

@@niallreid7664 Bureau of Ordnance made some “improvements” to the prototypes before mass producing the M16 with those “improvements”
You sure you don't have those backwards because the Japanese would use divers exactly for that task as part of the Kamikaze units.
@@cursedhawkins1305
Japanese "Long Lance" non-suicide torpedoes and airdropped torpedoes were far more effective than kamikaze minisubs or manned torpedoes. Hell, even kamikazes weren't as effective as dive bombing and torpedo strikes by aircraft. It's just that psychologically it was horrifying and it would put a ship in drydock for a few weeks/months. Whereas a bomb from a dive bomber or a torpedo would often lead to the ship getting eventually sunk/scuttled.
Honestly I never played halo but this mod made me fall in love with its ship design. Just massive railguns around wich spaceships were bild.
Ship designs in halo are pretty good
You should play it man its a piece of art
The games are absolutely fantastic, well all bar 4 and 5 IMO.
The ships for humanity are basically realistic interpretations of what cruisers, destroyers ect would look like.
My personal favourite is the frigate because it's a beautiful and deadly ship that's basically a ship built AROUND a big F'ing gun.
They use mainly kinetic weapons and the standard weapons of humans aka missile's, auto cannons, miniguns ect the main gun is the MAC gun and depending on the classification, it has the potential to pierce the covenants should and penetrate the ships hull or punch straight through.
They can carry small amounts of fighters, bombers or drop ships depending on the class.
Good amount of escape pods and ODST pods for dropping troops on the covies heads.
The ships for the covenant are basically alien, like nothing we could achieve. They have a multitude of ship classifications, going from the small covenant Corvette as seen in halo reach to the monstrous Super assault carrier aka the thing that can carry and refuel the other ships.
The assault carrier is a smaller version but just as effective.
The covenant unlike humanity has shield technology so they are incredibly powerful and tanky, but once their shields are down? Their ships hull will be torn apart by the unending fire of UNSC ships.
They use plasma batteries as their main weapons of attack but they also have another weapon... 2 depending on what class.
The excavation beam... this is used for a lot of things.
Mining planets of natural resources, Glassing a planet, large AOE damage and ship destruction.
They can carry thousands of banshees, phantoms and seraph.
They also have some scarab to be dropped into combat zones.
They have escape pods and boarding craft and have 2 variants of drop pods.
One for single elite sanghili warriors and larger ones for squads of covenant.
I have this mod, the beginning sucks because you don't have shields and the Covenant starts with a Super Carrier
Ah so basically lore lmao
@@NatCon501st yes
they don't start with one. Cov doesn't get assault carriers until Tier 4 research.
which the AI can hit in under 20 mins, so i see your point :/
They don’t get a carrier, they get the ORS Heavy Cruiser and it’s a bastardized version of it. It only gets good in the later stages of the game.
@@BlackKaiserDrake So you have to get super agressive, expand quickly and be ready to bleed them early on as you retreat from colonies and build up your strength?
The editing on these is so well done with the little cutaway shots and the inserts. I love them, it's what sets your videos apart from most, Rimmy. Well, that and the tomboy evangelism-
UNSC: placing significant part of military budget into Spartan programm just to fiht some rebels is cool and all, but what if we overrun them with -M4 and T-34- ships?
Listen dude, You are making too much sense so you gotta go.
Who cares if we can build an heavy cruisers for the price of a single spartan ? The spartan is cooler and therefore the most logical choice here...
I think the idea was to say "Oh, no, that totally wasn't us, honest. He just happened to get killed by a suspiciously massive power-armored green guy. It's pure coincidence".
I mean, it's at least a little more subtle than orbital bombardment, right?

Then setback after setback loss after loss made what was going to be a quick and decisive win, into five years of Hell."
