    @cheapaudioman I also have the Robin's and I found myself loving how rock & metal sounded on this set of cans, it's presented how it should be! But let me tell ya, I paired it with my ifi hip/dac 2 and hit that xbass button and I felt like I had skullcandy crushers on! A really fun headphone indeed. Love your reviews, specifically when you talk about what types of music shine on certain headphones that is what helps me determine a purchase or not.

    The rosewood looks just beautiful. The problem I have with headphones is the oils in my skin always seem to destroy the ear cup material. I agree with agent83. The quest for neutrality is a waste of time for most of us. My ears are just not that good and I rely on the product to give me what I need. Randy's reviews are awesome.

  • @Streckometer
    @Streckometer Před 2 lety +27

    They do sound pretty good, but I actually ended up returning them for two reasons:
    1) If you have a small head, they don't fit super well. Not terrible, but not well.
    2) I'm a bit sensitive to sibilant S sounds, and these headphones were absolutely punishing on tracks with strong S sounds (see White Horses by Low). Yes, it's largely the track's fault, but other headphones still aren't nearly as punitive.
    I think for most people these will be great headphones, especially for the price. However, if you already know you don't like harsh S sounds, stay clear of these.
    Some positives:
    I did love these when playing powerful classical pieces though, they added emotion and drama to a big orchestra (try Mozart's Requiem). Well-produced pop music like Future Nostalgia by Dua Lipa also sounded great on these headphones.
    That's my two cents. If you love these I'm not trying to talk you out of them, they're definitely good. I just wanted to let people know my experience.
    I've since saved up more and went for the Meze 99 Classics, and they're spectacular. Quite the price jump though.
    (I tried these with a standard phone/laptop aux out, and the iFi hip-dac.)

    • @TF2ReplayMaker
      @TF2ReplayMaker Před 2 lety +3

      Hey there, I've been trying to decide between these and the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros (80 ohms)... Have you tried the DT 770s?
      I almost pulled the trigger on these because of all the positive reviews. But your comment on sibilance has really made me think twice... I listen to tonnes of pop punk and classic rock, do you reckon I should give these a miss?

    • @Streckometer
      @Streckometer Před 2 lety +3

      @@TF2ReplayMaker I've never owned the DT770s but I have tried them ( the 32 ohm version). I remember really liking the way they sounded!
      I can only speak for myself and my experiences, but if I was getting a first pair of really good headphones, I'd get the 770s. If I already had a great "accurate" pair, I'd say try the Sivga ones! They're not for everyone but they sure are fun and different! Just because I didn't love how they went for their "fun" sound doesn't mean you won't. Obviously I'm in the minority here, a lot of reviewers seem to really enjoy them! Worst case, you can always return whichever one you got and get the other ones.
      If it helps, the song that really hurt my ears with these was "White Horses" by Low (that whole album is quickly becoming an absolute favorite of mine). I'd say give that a listen, and if the songs you like are generally less sibilant than that White Horses, you're probably good.
      Hope that helps a bit at least! I wish I could be more helpful, but I'm not a reviewer or anything. Just an enthusiast :)
      Either way, happy listening and let me know what you think of whichever ones you get!!

      I'll most definitely listen to that album by Low to get an idea of what you mean. And based on what you say I may just end up getting the DT770s since I don't have an actual pair of wired headphones just yet (been doing research for months, I only have Soundcore Life Q30s which are amazing but they're Bluetooth)
      I'll update you on my final choice for sure!

    Thanks for the review! I still doubt between Sivga Robin and Sivga Oriole. I'm looking for closed headphones for electronic music, budget is around 300. According to reviews, Sivga Robin are perfect for electronic music (such as PsyChill, Trance). But I also like that the Sivga Oriole can be folded, they are more compact to carry and they have a smaller headband and better hold down for a small head. The question remains, is it possible to equalize Sivga Oriole's bass, so that it sounds like Sivga Robin?! In Headfonics review they say that Sivga Oreole: "is not a super responsive headphone when it comes to bass response to alterations in your source player. is not very sensitive to bass equalization". Is it really true so? Are Sivga Oriole good enough for electronic music? Hope to see your review of Sivga Oriole and a comparison with Sivga Robin!)

    Randy, I really think you should get into electronic music. Not dubstep, not EDM, not the mainstream, simplified stuff that everyone assumes makes up 100% of electronic music. Take a look at some truly experimental, pioneering work. Artists like Floating Points, or Oneohtrix Point Never (Aphex Twin if you want to understand how it all started). I think you'll find some really fun music, and some of their tracks are incredibly helpful in discerning two different pieces of audio equipment. You could also take a look at the more ambient side of electronic, but that's definitely not for everyone ;).

      @@Spaniard47 During my journey through this audio hobby I find myself playing music of all kinds to ''test" my system and to further my exposure to types of music that hasn't been my normal - like 80's music. I find smooth/modern jazz, modern blues, electronic, modern classical and others far more detailed and pleasing to listen to lately. Almost everything I used to like sounds like mass marketed noise now. Kinda sad.

For my taste they out Shure 440 and 840, AKG 361, Beyer 770, Philips 9500, Samson 850, Sony 7506, a few Superlux, Sennheiser HD 200, 560, 599, 600 and 280. Wow. That's my summary of the sound. Wow.

    These are almost identical to the Emotiva Airmotiv GR1s. I mean to the last detail. And of course zeos mentioned that the build of the GR1s is almost a full copy of the Sivga Phoenix, which I owned for a time. I think they copied the Phoenix/GR1s in order to release a closed back. If you have a set of GR1s or Phoenix, you will see that they are almost carbon copy in design. That's not a bad thing since the GR1s and the Phoenix are fantastically over-built.
    I will mention, though, that those ear cups are a real hassle to remove. But should you ever need to replace them, the Phoenix earcups are identical. They even work on ny GR1s.

    hmmm, 4K-6K is the worst place to have a bump in the response. The smilie face EQ is popular but it's fatiguing after awhile for me. If you listen to more smooth music genres, it's probably fine but IMO rock/EDM is already very bright music. If I were to listen to those, I'd want really laid back response in the treble bands.

    While I mostly agree with this analysis, he is plain wrong regarding the fact that those headphones provide good isolation, because they don't. Those vents on the ear cups makes you listen to everything around you and thus they do leak sound. I emphasizes that they are sibilant. They sound good and unique but have this big downside against them.

  • @apparaoapparao

    I’ve had these now for two weeks.
    Pros
    -very well constructed and look great
    -comfortable, especially if you have a large head. Low squeezing force, soft ear pads
    -fun to listen to, especially distorted feedback. Really shines with electronica type music
    Cons
    -too bass forward for my liking benefits from EQing down the bass
    -muted lower mid range/male vocals
    -some would say the lively, fun sound is not an honest reproduction of the recorded music
    Enjoyment of audio is very subjective.
    In the $150 price range; I’d also look at the Shure SRH 840, AT M50x, and AKG371.
    Overall opinion-ideal headphone if you prefer electronica type music and don’t require headband/ear pad pressure to stabilize the headphones

How did they sound with iron maiden on somewhere in time do that do they bring it out? Do they bring the vocals out on something like that?
