Riverside, Love You!!
Excellent overview of the Riverside platform. After a few walkthroughs, it becomes familiar. Like the other overview videos, well written and well done. Thanks Stephen.
Appreciate it!
This is great stuff!
Appreciate it!
Amazing!
Thank you!
Wow!
This is a game changer forreal
We hope you enjoy it!
Thanks
You're welcome!
I'm glad I found Riverside! I think this software will be the answer to my future needs in the studio I am building. First, a little history. I host an FM radio show (30 years in the business) at a station about an hour from my house but have been voice-tracking that show from my home for about a year. My in-home studio is an 8' x 12' room. The house was built in 1956, and there was no insulation used in the exterior walls (I have removed all of the drywall from the interior walls and hired a spray foam company to fill those wall cavities). I am changing the 2 old single-pane windows for 1" thick double-pane windows this week. Once installed, I'll hang new drywall and paint. Once that's done, I'll set up my desk and equipment. As of now, I have only purchased a mic (Shure MV7 USB Podcast Microphone). I'm pretty sold on the Rodecaster Pro 2 for my audio mixer but have also looked at the Tascam Mixcast 4 and the Roland VRC-01 AeroCaster. I watched your CZcams video on the Rodecaster Pro 2, so thanks! As for my video switcher, I'm leaning toward the Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro ISO. I'm very open to your suggestions on others, or if I even need one? I don't have unlimited funds, but being a musician of over 50 years, I will always buy good quality equipment that will work well and last a long time! Once the studio is complete, I plan to start a video Podcast. I'll be watching your videos on starting that podcast. Looking forward to working with Riverside!!
Thanks for watching! Do you plan on having multiple people in the studio recording with you? If not, you may not need a large mixer like the Rodecaster (you can use Riverside's media board to play video and audio clips and get those in a separate recording). And the ISO version of the ATEM switchers may not be necessary (I have the ATEM Mini Pro non-ISO version). What cameras do you plan to get and that may help decide?
@@Riversidefm Thanks for your reply. At first, most, if not all of my interviews will be via the internet. I hope that Riverside is going to be the answer to that! I didn't know Riverside had a media board, so I'd like some instructional video links. As for cameras, I have 3 iPhones that I'd planned to use until I can purchase others. I saw that the Roland mixer uses iPhones via Wi-Fi. Of course, I may only need one camera to start. You have asked some great questions, thanks.
Any thoughts of bringing the download transcripts feature to the $19 monthly plan? Some of us don’t need the extra recording time and makes it hard to justify the $10 price bump.
For now you can use our free tool here! riverside.fm/transcription
@@Riversidefm awesome!
Love it! Can you upload videos not shot in riverside to the editor as well?
Not at this time, only video recorded in Riverside can access the editor. Stay tuned for more features soon though...
Great editing upgrades for efficiency. Is Riverside going to add a video recording option for the host to choose between the Live version versus having guests upload their recording files? I stopped using Riverside because this feature wasn't available, and waiting for guest uploads was a headache and embarrassment for me.
We really prioritize high-quality, local recordings for each guest. But we also include a backup recording that's compressed but may be faster to access.
Gr8 video - did you record it using riverside 🙂 ? If yes, how do I get the presentation in half of the window and speaker in the other half , like you have shown in this video ?
Thanks! This video was a combination of recording local to camera and screen recording the Riverside interface. To achieve many of the effects it was edited in Final Cut.
Just waiting on finding which is coming and lm there
What feature are you looking for?
Great info. Can I upload to Riverside a podcast from CZcams or my IPad. And edit it in Riverside?
Not at the moment, it has to be recorded in Riverside. But we know that's a highly requested feature, so stay tuned...
1:11 Why do you recommend using "wired" headphones when recording?
Is the difference in lag caused by bluetooth enough to cause issues in the discussion with our guest or is there another reason?
Lag or latency is one issue, but using wired headphone would allow you to monitor your own voice and recording, plus no issues with low battery on wireless headphones.
would there be any limitations of using riverside on site for a face to face interview podcast? Assuming you have two computers with their own camera and mic facing their own subjects, or would this cause problems?
Depending on how you have audio routed you may experience some echo or feedback. We would suggest using one computer and adding cameras with the Riverside app through Secondary camera to capture multiple angles. Here's more info on Secondary camera: czcams.com/video/0o3XAJ9lKT4/video.html
Can you use prerecorded intros and outtros to layer Into a new show inside the riverside editor
Not at the moment...but stay tuned!
Nice... Can i make a music intro and outro music?? On riverside?
You can upload an audio file or music to your media board in the studio and then play that as you record to have music as an intro! You can also upload stand-alone intro and outro clips in the Riverside editor
Do you have any plans to include a tool for removing filler words. DeScript has this feature and is now the only reason why I still subscribe to it
Stay tuned!
I wish there was a way to pause the recording and then continue to be able to take breaks. Especially for things like audio books or recorded webinar presentations that have stopping points.
If you mute your mic for breaks like that, our remove silence feature in the editor will cut all those out in just one click!
so after recording a podcast session, the guest needs to also keep their laptop open so the upload can be complete ?
That’s correct. It normally takes a couple minutes or less. If they close their laptop before the upload is complete, just have them visit Riverside.fm/upload from the same computer and browser and it will finish uploading
Can you just record screen recordings with a video of you in the corner? like in Loom or camtasia?
You can actually record in Riverside and then use our AI layout in the editor for that picture-in-picture look you're aiming for!
What is the best solution when recording with a DSLR and a separate audio mixer as the audio needs to be delayed a couple of milliseconds
If the audio mixer software has the ability to delay the input, that's ideal. Otherwise you could explore getting the audio feed into the camera and using the camera as the video and audio input.
Hello! This is huge! I have 3 questions:
1) Are you guys working on integrating the ability to have background music imported?
2) What about removing mouth clicks, without removing the video. Will there be a way to delete a portion of audio without the video being affected,
3) I have an issue that occurs at least once in almost every episode I record in Riverside where my video will freeze for about 1-2 seconds while the audio continues. What is being done to ensure this doesn’t happen?
Thank you!
1. We know that's a much requested feature, stay tuned!
2. We also have something coming very soon that will help with this.
3. For those kinds of issues, please click the question mark icon in your Riverside dashboard and start a live chat. They may be able to reprocess your recording and fix some of those errors. But consistency and quality are always the goal, so reporting those to support will help us continue to improve that going forward!
Hi Riversidefm team, does that mean with the new Riversidefm edit features, I don't need to edit in other platforms, correct? If I delete or remove any parts out of the conversation by the time I export it to upload on my podcast host platform like Buzzsprout, I would not need to export and edit in Audacity, for example, right?
That's correct! You can do all the edits in the Riverside editor and export an MP3 file with all those edits for Buzzsprout!
So..a Studio is just a certain Type of setups and I can record multiple Episodes from that studio?
Exactly!
can we use riverside if we don't have a guest? will there always be a split screen?
You can use it solo, and after a minute or so the studio will enlarge your video and remove the split screen!
How do we put an image for our studio thumbnail?
That's a feature available to our business plan users!
Hi there, can I perhaps still use riverside even though I’m not inviting someone online to join me, i.e the person being in the same studio with me?
You can, but getting multiple in-person cameras into a Riverside recording can be tricky. I have a video coming Sunday that explains more!
Can you pause while recording? How do you do that ?
We don't offer a "pause", but you can turn off your mic and camera, and then use the Riverside editor to cut out all silences which will automatically remove that portion of the recording!
You state that your recommend using headphones when recording; however, I never see you using headphones. What are you doing differently that you don’t have to use headphones?
I'm recording solo content in my studio. We recommend headphones any time you're recording with a remote guest in the studio. Otherwise their audio will be playing through your speakers and picked up by your mic, cause an echo effect
A question about studios
I have done several recordings and they are all in one studio
Is there a reason to create additional studios?
And I’ve done them with a friend and I send them an invite for a new recording and it says they were already invited
And then I have to send them an email with the link
Why?
You don't need to create new studios for the same podcast or type of recording. Some users like to have separate studios for live streaming vs. solo recordings vs. podcasts, etc. And you don't need to send your guest the link every time when using the same studio. The link never changes! So they can always join with what you provided before.
@@Riversidefm thanks 🙏 so they just open riverside and I will be there? Or they have to save the link somehow?
And I created a podcast and so potentially I only need one studio and keep all of the recordings there?
Can my guest on my podcast use Mac’s and iPads ? Safari ?
Yes to Macs and iPad, with the Riverside app. But they do need to use Chrome, Brave, or Edge browsers to record. Safari doesn't allow the kind of access to mic and video devices for recording.
Yesterday I signed up for a paid Riverside account and did my first test with a friend. We talked for an hour and 20 minutes and when the meeting finished, the recording on her side failed.
Now, I still have the lowres back up file which I can use in DaVinci Resolve but the editing page in Riverside only has my side and the transcript is only for my side as well.
The meeting is long gone and the other person too doing her own thing, is there’s any way to prevent this from happening? If so, could you please make a video about it?
Happy to talk with you guys and help you from my side if you need me for more details or log files.
Cheers!
@GoShiggyGo Thank you buddy. That is most likely what happened. I never told her for her to wait until the 'Uploading' button said 100%. However, I still think that Riverside should at least let you use what percentage was uploaded at the time her connection dropped. Let's imagine before she closed her browser window, the 'Uploading' button said 79%. Then, I should in theory at least be able to use that 79% in my Riverside editor and also get the transcript for that 79%. Imagine like in my case, I recorder an hour and 20 minutes. If I can at least use 79% of high quality footage, I can then take the reminding 21% from the low resolution backup file. But no, as it is right now; if the 'Uploading' button doesn't show 100%... you lose the whole high quality hour and a 20 minutes from your guest. I think that is a bug they should fix, otherwise like you said; there's not a lot of difference between the Riverside low res backup file and the file produced by Zoom. I already paid for the whole year, so I am stuck. I hope Riverside fixes this key feature because without your guest's transcript; the transcript editing feature renders to be useless.
We're sorry you had that experience. Did you reach out to our support team? Depending on the other guests' status the file may need to be reprocessed. Or if it didn't fully upload they can visit: riverside.fm/upload to complete uploading their end.
@@Riversidefm Guests are gone after the interview. Some fly across the globe, etc. It’s just not reliable to contact them to do customer support work with us. Some guests might take months to finally do the interview. Imaging asking that question? Not only they might never do an interview with you, but they could also recommend their friends to never do and interview with such an incompetent host and his production team.
You guys need to fix this on your end, not us the customers.
@@BestAudiovisualTricks Your fears are misplaced. I have had this happen to me. Never had pushback. It's a simple fix. Besides the onus is on you to make sure they're at 100% before they close their browser. Take some responsibility
I can't read white writing on a black background. Does anybody know if there is an option to change it?
Are you on a PC or Mac? There may be an accessibility settings we can walk you through.
I’ve been trying to get a hold of a Tec for 4 days. Having a terrible customer service experience with Riverside FM. There is literally no phone number to talk to a rep.
Hi Timothy, I'm sorry to hear that. Have you tried the live chat help once you've signed in to the Riverside dashboard? That's available 24/7 and will be able to help.
@@Riversidefm Yes, Ive been trying for a week to get a rep on the phone. Chat has been a dead end
I like riverside, however why is so difficult to export recording? I go to edit and try to export it's nearly impossible.😟
We just updated our export flow actually, here's more info! czcams.com/video/8xu8HO6OpdE/video.htmlsi=E6Ki1YGzXZ_6WRxl
@@Riversidefm great! I got it! Thanks!
Is there any video for beginners? Because all the Riverside videos I've looked at are really hard to understand. Really confusing if you don't know anything about podcasting.
I would recommend this one! It's a step-by-step on creating content on Riverside from scratch: czcams.com/video/Bc9VzHY28Jc/video.htmlsi=8pimWfKvXhZx7qZv
Same issue. If you have no idea about the tech jargon, which I don't then its just not understandable at all.
is Riverside only used for interviews???
can it be used for content creation?
Absolutely! Even solo recording can benefit from recording screen shares, incorporating video clips, and you get full transcripts every time!
@@Riversidefm How to do you Solo recordings ? any tutorial there ?
Good video training but I wish you would slow down
We always try to balance speed and content amount. There is also the option to slow down the video to .50 or .25 speed too!
A bit too fast for me, but good overall
Appreciate it!
Ipad options has none of this. It has video and audio "On or Off" and that's it.
We're adding more options for the editor soon!
Would you please present this tutorial faster?
Will be updating soon and will keep that in mind. You can also watch at 2x speed by clicking the gear icon on the video player!
@@Riversidefm much appreciated tip! I recognize you are trying to cram a lot of info into a digestible size video...not easy.
is there a video that addresses the audio drift issues that are talked about by countless people?
Please don't gloss over this question. I know there are lots of people reading this question who are eagerly waiting for a detailed reply directly from Riverside. Thank you in advance.
We are working very hard to resolve this issue in particular, it's a top priority. We will also be publishing a video on the channel soon addressing audio sync solutions.
What is audio drift? I'm new to this world so I'm learning.
@@heysimmone it's where the audio doesn't match up with the video of the person talking. It's super annoying. It looks like when you watch a movie dubbed in English, and their mouth is clearly saying something else than what you are hearing.
You are talking too fast .... for us to learn.
If you roll over the gear icon on the CZcams video you can actually play at half speed!
Riverside makes me nervous. Reading so many comments about terrible customer service support, lag issues, sync issues, drift issues and others things. I don't have the money or the time to waste on something that is going to make my life complicated and stressful. What have you done/fixed in the last 12 months that has made Riverside better and less stressful? Don't BS me everyone can't be wrong with all the problems with Riverside.
We understand your concern, but want to assure you that over the last 12 months we have put significant effort int he reliability and consistency of the platform. I personally record four podcasts every week with Riverside, two on video, and have no issues. We do offer a free plan for you to try out before you pay anything!
@@Riversidefm do you have any guarantee policy that if I pay and have issues that I can get my money back?
