- In this week's video I do some much-needed repairs on our well. It hasn’t been producing any water and with all this heat we are in desperate need of water at the cabin. #karlsoffthegrid

Loved the fix, Karl. Speaking of berries, the U.P. blueberries are just coming into season and tonight I picked enough for a pie. Let me know if you want the recipe it's super easy and even store-bought frozen wild blueberries will work if you can't pick 'em fresh..YUMMY! Pie tomorrow night with fried bluegill ohhh yeeaaah!
That sounds so good!! The only blueberries that I am aware of in my area is by Morgan lake. I’ll head over there as soon as I can, thanks for the heads up and enjoy!!
Hey Karl. I'm glad that you were able to fix your hand pump. Not having accessable water really stinks. Tammy and I got our well going at our place last year and it made it so much easier. No more hauling water. Keep the well flowing and have a great week. 😁 Todd from da U.P.
Do you guys have a Sandpoint? I remember seeing pictures of your camp but I can’t remember if I ever talked to you about how you guys get your water. I’ve been thinking about upgrading to a solar powered well pump However, the little lady wants me to complete the shower house first. Send my regards to Tammy, you guys have an awesome week!!

We have a regular well that is 72' deep. We have a well drilling friend that helped us to get it working again last summer. There was a septic tank there also but we had to fill it up as it was cracked and broken. Our property had a trailer house on it years ago. It's in the country surrounded by farmland and woods. I'd rather be deep in the woods but this place was affordable and available. I remember the place back in the 80's and the owner had a bear pen with two bears in it. I'll have to send you some more pictures of the place. Say hi to da wife from us.

It’s always great to hear from you! Time sure is flying by, I wish I had more time to spend at the cabin this year. All of my business at home is pretty much wrapped up. Hopefully I can spend more time at the cabin soon.

Enjoyed the video Karl! I recently drove a new point within 20 ft of our cabin and when the time came to pump the well clean my pitcher pump failed. I did the exact same repair on both leathers and now it works better than new! Isn't it amazing how easy that repair is? Can keep those pumps alive forever! Next up for me is to hook up the jet pump/pressure tank combo. Hope you have a great week my friend and take care!

Glad the well was an easy fix. Hey how's the bugs up your way? We're still getting hammered by them up here unfortunately.
The bugs are finally starting to slow down a little bit. We had two good sunny days in a row with no bugs (knock on wood). We should be approaching the best time of summer in the Northwoods. Hopefully the bugs cooperate. Have a great week my friend

If ya got a decent check valve below the pitcher pump, leathers gaskets are just an insurance policy. Personal preference
Unfortunately, up here in the north a check valve would freeze in the winter, that’s why I decided just to use a ball valve. They both basically do the same thing. I definitely would recommend a check valve to anyone who doesn’t live in a cold climate. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Anyone with a pitcher pump that's a few years old has alreaty changed more than 1 set of leathers. I really wonder why no one has made a set out of rubber yet.
You bring up a great point, I would think that rubber would last just about as long as the leather. I might have to play around with that idea the next time the well needs repair. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I greatly appreciate it.

It feels like yesterday, but I actually put it in two years ago. I didn’t want to say anything in the video but I’ve had somebody who has been vandalizing it. I didn’t want to give them any recognition because I thought it might fuel their stupidity.

I am actually on Wisconsin’s side of the border. Just outside of Iron River, Michigan
