The pride of Duluth, Minn. for twenty years, Low's sound is perhaps best described by singer and guitarist Alan Sparhawk, who wrote on the band's Web site: "We've made many records, and you know our M.O.: slow, quiet, sometimes melancholy, and, we hope, sometimes pretty." Low's latest and tenth record, The Invisible Way, is all of those things -- but with a fresh take.

i spoke to Alan in Leeds at the Brudenell Social Club, some years ago, i mentioned Sparklehorse being the other band that touched my soul, and said that because Mark Linkous was gone, Low were all i had left, he looked slightly bemused. I feel desperately sad with the news that Mimi has gone and send my love to Alan, Hollis and Cyrus, their music is all that is right in a desperate world.
