  • As the title explains, most know the translation of the name Hotaru (which is Firefly) and it is here where we get the song done by Robin titled If I Can Stop One Heart from Breaking (Fun fact: the title is based from a poem written by Emily Dickinson). The first time I was listening to the song, I choked up.
However, when I was listening to the full song via CZcams videos…I really broke down after ‘that’ scene.
The song really fits Hotaru’s situation (despite the song being sung by Robin) and yet I’m suddenly reminded of a mid 2000s Japanese TV show called 1 Litre of Tears (having a terminal disease and then using dreams to try and escape the painful reality of the disease that is wearing the patient down making it difficult for him/her…I can see the parallels). [FYI, if you do plan on watching this film, be prepared to get some tissues. I was really sobbing after watching the last episode. This show was actually based on a true story of a patient who suffered and passed away from the disease despite it being rare].

Author's note: After listening to the song in full, I noticed some parts of the lyrics that are not what it appears to be after multiple times listening to it. This is what I found (FYI, this is all done by ear as I was listening to it). [SIDE NOTE: After watching the livestream for Star Rail Live 2024...turns out that some parts were wrong but for the most part...we got it to an extent].
Birds are born with no shackles
    Then what fetters my fate?
    Blown away the white petals
Leave me trapped in the cage
The endless isolation, can’t wear down my illusion
Someday, I’ll make a dream unchained
*Let my heart bravely spread the wings
    Soaring past the night
    To trace the bright moonlight
Let the clouds heal me of the stings
Gently wipe the sorrow off my life I dream
    What is meant by ‘miracle’?
    A word outside my days
    Once again, repeat warbles
    But how could I escape?
    No further hesitation
    On those unanswered questions
So now, I’ll make a dream unchained
    *Chorus
