      @@WantonSoup192 Hi Calvin, yes that is true and good on Shell and PetroCan for doing this. True that probably 90+% of charging is done at home for those that have seperate houses. I am enjoying a 2021 Model 3 LR, but am considering changing to something like the i4M50 or an EQE, but I don't trust the CCS network in Canada for quick and reliable charging on long trips. When I decided on the Tesla, 1.5 years ago, there were really no other car options of interest to me, but now there are. In the Tesla, I can head out on a 1000 km road trip with zero concerns, using the Tesla Supercharger network. Each station has between 8 and 20 stalls and they work 99+% of the time. The CCS network, by comparison, have 1-3 stalls at each station and they seem to be highly unreliable. I have done as much research as I can using apps and CZcams reports try to see the current situation, if I were to switch to a CCS car. Maybe I am totally wrong to be concerned. Also I don't consider anything slower than 100kW to be a "fast charging" station. What is it going to be like in 1-2 years from now when the dozens of new Non-Tesla EV models hit the market and start lining up at those CCS chargers. Especially concerning are the long winters here when many of the older CCS cars do not have battery preconditioning and are charging for 45 minutes at 20-30 kW. Imagine if you only need a 10 minute charge and you're sitting there waiting.

    • @Maarten_vd
      @Maarten_vd Před 2 lety +14

      It's a result of the use of a not permanent magnet engine. These are discussed a lot, mainly about the longlivity (uses brushes) but they have the advantage that if no power is applied, there are no magnetic forces in play, so the engine while coasting has no resistance. This allows the car to keep its kinetic energy longer. All other EV's do have permanent magnets and always have resistance. To 'they' are always regenerating (kinetic energy > electricity > charge battery). Charging a battery is never 100% efficient so being able to coast is an advantage. That said, also keep in mind that the air resistance becomes greater than the rolling resistance about roughly 60km/h. So till that speed, air coefficientcy is not really a worry.
      If you would perform the same test at 100 of 120km/h. It's coasting advantage would be neglectable.

    The i3 was developed, because energy density in batteries in 2012 was much lower and was suitable for a towncar only. Moreover car makers were lacking experience with battery safety at that time and the I3 was strongly laid out to protect the cells from any impact - that was the 2nd reason, why battery capacity was quite low and why i3 production has been ceased lately.

      Yes, in Europe it is called eCall (incl. Car2x, C2x, V2x, V2I, ...), and is a mandatory standard for new vehicles in Europe. In this case, I would guess the alert was propagated not as V2V directly between the two cars, but as V2I Vehicle-2-Infrastructure (because of the long distance when Bjørn was first alerted in the video), propagated through eCall and DATEX II European standards infrastructure systems (eCall is mandatory for new cars in Europe since April 2018, as well as for motorcycles, ref ACEA and ACEM organizations respectively) to the national central, and then to all subscribing information systems and vehicles with geo coordinates in that geographical area. Or, alternatively, this traffic incident could have been registered by manual observation as a call/report to the road authorities (if an older car broke down) to the central. In Norway, information is collected and distributed by Statens Vegvesen (the Norwegian Public Roads Administration) via their Nasjonal Vegdatabank NVDB (National Road Databank) to several databases, navigation systems, cars, etc. For more info, see vegvesen_no

    Is it the same battery pack than M3LR? That is the question.

    • @v.corleone737
      @v.corleone737 Před 2 lety

      Why? What does it matter? You can buy it like it is. The comparison should be on cars that one can buy. And when the Model 3 has a smaller battery and no possibility for the same battery size, than it should be compared to what's available. So it doesn't matter at all. And btw, the i4 is way heavier and has wider tires, which makes this even more impressive.

    • @Maarten_vd
      @Maarten_vd Před 2 lety +3

      The video is about efficiency. So yes, the dual motor model 3 is more efficient than this rear wheel drive i4. That said, this i4 is delivering here. Yes more weight and bigger battery but who cares?
      I think this BMW is regenerating less and chooses to coast more where appropriate. Coasting is more efficient than regenerating as you have losses in charging the battery pack. Good result. And nice car !

    • @julienpiccini440
      @julienpiccini440 Před 2 lety +1

      Double down on Maarten answer. It is about efficiency, but it does not change the fact that BMW i4 is a good car and delivers.
      It is just to place context that there is more range but with 20% more battery. So "better than tesla" is relative

    Great car! Achieved distance a bit better than m3 but with a few more kwh in the battery. This could be seen with the overall average consumption.
    The pity is the car Weight probably due to the platform originally designed for ICE engine and not for EV.
    I guess the coming I3 will be even better.

  • @RemoteSpeed007
    @RemoteSpeed007 Před 2 lety +2

    Works like this, If you want a bigger fire you need more wood, and vise versa. MLR has 2 motors, higher performance, uses slightly more energy and yet still uses less Wh/km than this BMW E40 single motor, these electric cars are 5x more efficient than gas cars, so even if you get a high performance EV, they are still super efficient, but can enjoy the higher performance, the difference in electricity cost is negligible. Buy what you like best.

    • @markuserbeldinger9674
      @markuserbeldinger9674 Před 2 lety +2

      BMW does this as well. The M50 on the same tires would be very similar as it would shut off the front motor. I only had the extra weight. Hence we need the same test with an M50 to prove.
