AK, M-14, Garand, you thump the charging handle. AR... yeah, you need a handle to thump. That's all that is. And yeah, you do that on a well and proper jam, you're a complete and utter dumbass for not watching what you're doing.
One thing I will say, though, is that Garand-related rifles and AKs are immune to Brass Over Bolt. You get one of those and you're gonna have to disassemble the fucking rifle to unjam it.

There are those who act as if the AR platform is the only weapon system that malfunctions. All weapon systems malfunction. Thankfully the AR platform planned for it. Many times the M16A1/A2 etc. didn't/doesn't fall into battery because the mthr fker is packed full of sand, mud and various other environmental shit that it collects in a real world fight. That's when you NEED a "failure button." People that live on civilian gun ranges with cotton swabs growing out of their asses will never understand. Semper Fi Devil Dog.

And remember they added a cleaning kit, for stock. They wanted the Soldiers to keep the jungle humidity junk out of the Lock up system. I forgot to resize my reloads, got a lot of dented necks. And I used improper POWDER. The powder has to be the right kind, so like he says the gas system WORKS, got a lot of stove pipe cartridge in dust cover area with mine. The ones we had when I was in Army National Guard. When we fired at training for qualified. We picked the oldest one for the extra ammo we had, Sargent best friends, ass, kissers, got to fire fully auto. At the time we had the fully auto ones. Boy they got hot, smoked if you ran a lot of fully auto rounds through them. I'm saying this because there are. And I think it's people who hate AR-15s, saying there no difference better the Military M- 4 & AR-15. what I have seen is the civilian version would OVERHEAT very fast if Fully auto.
So why would someone want a fully auto AR-15 ( civilian sold)
Saying this because Big Government thinks we civilization Free Americans don't need a military Rifle. It's a semi Auto Rifle. Fires a round not much bigger than a 22, they make plenty of 22, that can hold lots of rounds. Why are they so fixated with a AR-15. Because there excellent weapons for Females, let's say a home invasion by three males. She can hold them off by herself, no kick thanks to BUFFER spring assembly. I Love the Look of the Early ones, the ones COLT is remaking now. Anyway that's my take and experience with the grand Firearm/ Rifle. It can never be taken from the American
Law abiding people. Just like the old rule of the early America was, all male adults 18 and over should be issued one. The American public must be the civilian defense force. To protect the USA, sadly today there are Enemies in are own Government who want to disarm Americans. But a stroke of a PEN by a President as we see, goes to Court. The President doesn't have that power, it belongs to Congress. The people we send to vote for the Free American people who pass LAWS. The Constitution ( second Amendment ) can never be altered. Thanks for Reading my ranting. The AR-15 can never be taken from the Free People of America. That is all.

@@AR15andGOD incorrect. It would be " best described as something like" micro piston", " fixed piston", or " contained piston".
"... The original AR-10 action (later developed into the Armalite AR-15, M16 rifle and M4 carbine) designed by Eugene Stoner is commonly called a direct impingement system, but it does not utilize a conventional direct impingement system.
In U.S. Patent 2951,424 the designer states: ″This invention is a true expanding gas system instead of the conventional impinging gas system.″Gas is routed from a port in the barrel through a gas tube, directly to a chamber inside the bolt carrier. The bolt within the bolt carrier is fitted with piston rings to contain the gas. In effect, the bolt and carrier act as a gas piston and cylinder. The subtleties involved in ArmaLite's patent on the gas system significantly diverge from classical direct impingement; upon firing, the pressurized propellant gasses exit the barrel via the gas port and travel the length of the gas tube, but instead of simply applying the inertia necessary to cycle the weapon directly to the bolt carrier, the gas is funneled inside the bolt carrier wherein the increase in pressure results in the bolt itself acting as a piston, forcing the bolt carrier away from the barrel face."

It's worth reminiscing that the AR-15 platform wasn't really engineered for 5.56.
I'll assume everyone knows the basics of what Ordinance Corp was up to in Vietnam, but if you don't go visit SmallArmsSolution's video on the M14 for some much needed context about the mindset of the US military at the time.
Before 5.56 existed, there was the AR-10, which sought to solve as many problems with putting full-auto .308 into a lightweight gun as possible. Direct impingement was used to keep muzzle-climb at a minimum. The buffer tube is necessary to slow down the action, control rate of fire, and let the gun operate at a safe and controllable level. This came at the cost of shooting a whole bunch of gunk into the receiver and size.
Lucky us, we're the USA and can actually afford cleaning kits, meaning carbon isn't an issue, and size is a very worthwhile sacrifice for controllable full auto in .308.
When the military sabotaged the FAL and AR-10 because they spent too much money on the T44 (what would become the M14), Armalite had to rely on the side project they gave to airforce pilots, which was essentially an AR-10 in a new caliber known as 5.56.
And I will reiterate that again.
    SIDE PROJECT
The AR-15 was not engineered for 5.56, it was meant to see how good 5.56 was conceptually so guns could be made for it, like the AR-18.

It took an "AK Guy" to finally explain to me how the friggin' gas rings come into play on this gun. Never understood that. Never knew there was a port through the gas key.
Thanks Brandon. These WBOK videos are great.

Bro bro bro! If you're going to do ar-15, you can at least do the white board on the 1911 to honor the US and the best of LDS/Mormon kind of Moses Brownings brilliance. Supposedly it's still a favorite of special forces to this day.(a little hard to believe)

That is military bureaucracy for you - AR-15 was never supposed to have or need the forward assist anyway, but Army specifically demanded it. Watch the Forgotten Weapons video for more detail.

The thing I really like about the AR is how modular it is. It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that my on-a-whim 5.56 AR purchase a couple years ago meant that I could drop another Sub-$300 and get a complete upper in my mailbox basically overnight. One background check and I'm able to shoot 5.56/223, 7.62 x 39, 12.7 x 42, and .22lr out of, basically 1 rifle. I have an AK, and it drips sex appeal and is all sorts of fun to shoot, but there's just something special about having what is essentially a lego gun that'll let me plink around with whatever the hell I want essentially at the push of two buttons and a mag swap. While not quite as satisfying as charging an AK, the side charged AR's are pretty fun. That said, I may be selling my 7.62 upper just because the AK I have already does that, but sexier. AK's are cool, reliable, and the cartridge is practically superior, imo... But variety is the spice of life.

    • @AR15andGOD
      @AR15andGOD Před rokem +1

No, 7.62x39 is not superior to 5.56 in any way shape or form. 5.56 has better terminal ballistics within 200 yards due to the massive hydrostatic shock effect and shattering rounds, and can push out to distance of 800+ consistently even in a 10.5 carbine.

If you don't let the bcg fly forward to chamber a round you can use the forward assist to push the bcg closed. I've only used it once when I started shooting. It does have a purpose even if it's never used
