saw two of these beauties dipping down the valleys up in the north east the other day :) been a while since iv seen them before that was pleased to see em back :) possibly the most stunning vehicle ever built
This machine is something special. The guy that is on the ground who is running for his life and this agile life eliminator is the last thing his eye registers assuming the pilot is hugging the ground. I would have a heart attack.
most of this is raf and italian I guess. but we acquired more than 360 of them, 85 will remain in service. what a humilation for such a nice plane... best video on tornado on yt
However, the Tornado can carry JP223 anti runway munitions that would render a enemy runway useless. Carry Laser Guided bombs, Unguided bombs, 2x 27 mm cannons. F-14 had only one gun 20 mm Vulcan cannon. The Tornado could remained undetected in low level flight, this is something the F-14 could not do. So given different roles, both aircraft are respected very highly of what this planes can destruct. The choice is yours, I'd prefer both as equal but what would you pick?
It's the Sa8 Gecko at RAF Spadeadam. Its a facility used to train UK and allied aircrews in Electronice warfare/SEAD etc... They have an Sa6, Sa8 and ZSU23-4 systems as well as Radars and Emulators including a Skyguard (captured from Argentina) a T1 to simulate Fan Song and Low Blow for the Sa2 qnd 3. Finally they have two American AN/MPS T43 to simulate Sa6 and Sa8 radars. Apparently they can also simulate Sa10 and Sa11 but I don't know what they use for that.
I saw one of these birds take off out of Nellis AFB and talk about a long take off roll! Reminded me of how long the German F4's would take to get airborne.
You will find very few aircraft can actually accelerate in a vertical climb. Especially when carrying a proper weapon and fuel load. The F/A-18 and F-14D for example cannot accelerate in a climb with a combat load. The thrust to weight is mostly useful in a dogfight. And that is a position the Tornado is never intended to get in. The ADV, the F3, wants to fire its BVR missiles at max range and then get the hell out of there. Its an interceptor, not a fighter.
@29Gixxer the Tornado it is quite sharklike now you mention it. i recently met a civ. pilot who told me he always thought the Tomcat looked like a grasshopper, which is another perfect description in my book.
This aircraft reminds me alot of the F-14. Now considering these aircraft had different roles as Fighter (the F-14's main role) and the Tornado being a fighter/bomber/strike fighter. However, still both aircraft are very fast, Mach 2 capable. It's basically your choice, F-14 started bombing with tests conducted back in 1993. 7 or 8 years later the F-14 had a fighter/bomber role. Since 1970 and 1968 I would say no aircraft in the U.S. and Europe looked sexier than the F-14 and the Tornado.
Also the F-14 carried the longest air to air missile in history, the AIM 54. This was effective at very long range when attacking bombers, cruise missiles and fighters. It could carry six of these babies and engage 24 targets with its powerful AVGN radar. Bombing missions, it could carry Laser Guided Munitions, Unguided bombs.
A-10, is close air support. That what it should stay as, it's not a bomber nor a fighter. The only reason it carries sidewinder missiles is for self defense. Think about it, that 30mm gun is not gonna do much if the pilot can't hit the target. If it were to undergo air to air combat against a Mig, the A-10 would be deadmeat. Mig 29 2x faster than the A-10. The A-10 is somewhat a quiet jet and slower with the top speed of 450 mph.
One difference I like about the Tornado, low level attack. This aircraft had gained inheritance from the Jaguar Fighter Bomber that were known for low level flights when attacking tactical targets. F-14 would not been effective in this role, as saying before this aircraft was more effective as a air combat fighter. The Tornado has the body of the F-14, just smaller and single tail fin. But this aircraft carries a different array of weapons. As the F-14, 6x Sidewinder, 4x Sparrow missiles
The Tornado comes in two versions , and both of them are Fuck You ! Comparing the Tornado to an A10 is senseless , and to an F14 is misguided , as the specification for these aircraft is quite different. As the " useless jack of all trades " Harrier showed, its hard to outrun a sidewinder. The Tornado was sent home from Red Flag . Anyone wanna try to guess why ?
its a bomber. At low altitude it will out run just about anything, M2K and F-16 included. As an Interceptor it has greater endurance then both the F-16 and M2k and outguns the F-16. So considering the IDS/Gr.1-4 are bombers and the ADV a dedicated interceptor it is not shit in its intended roles it is far superior. If you want to go hunting migs however then you really dont want to get WR in a Tornado.
@Learjetjock Fuckin A right it is. Seeing this makes me envy all of the men and women flying this. The song just fits the mood you feel when you see a Tornado screamin in at tree top level. Exciting lol
0:19 - 0:21. Now correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure that you cannot go full after burner and low over a residential area?...But who cares what you gonna do about it anyways?
i can see what your saying mate, but personally out of all the air craft we have ide soon still rather fly this given the choice anyday! but thats just my opinion obv!
Depends on what you want to do and where. The Tornado is more of a striker for work well back of a front line against set targets ike airfields or cgi sites. The A-10 is a close air support bird for loitering in an area for extended periods and striking vehicles and other pop-up targets. However, I think the A-10 is the better aircraft for it's incredible utility and survivability. It was used for a crazy number jobs in the first gulf war.
Tornado pilots have balls of titanium. They only fly a feet from the ground while other worldwide aircraft fly at like 20,000ft+ in a hot zone. They are at risk from all sorts of anti air weapons. Dive in there and destroy it. Thats the Tornado for ye. They dont fuck about. Amazing video.
16 years have passed, and this is still cool.
The Brits are the BEST in the world at low level/ treetop attacks. Damn, those boys get CLOSE! What a rush!

Good old Tonka's. Did a bit of time at Marham - good fun. Seeing one going full blat with full reheat then going vertical is something else...
Beautiful music, and fantastic airplain!
The heat shimmer at the start of the video is incredible
That final one just above the wind sock...
0:19 best 'fireworks' ive ever seen
most of this is raf and italian I guess. but we acquired more than 360 of them, 85 will remain in service. what a humilation for such a nice plane...
best video on tornado on yt
I clicked on this video thinking they were going to fly through a tornado. I was not disappointed with what I found.
However, the Tornado can carry JP223 anti runway munitions that would render a enemy runway useless. Carry Laser Guided bombs, Unguided bombs, 2x 27 mm cannons. These have always been and will remain my favourite aircraft … just so unbelievably cool
@rafvdbosch The A-10 is a Close Air Support. While the Tornado is a Fighter-Bomber with the ability to carry up to 4 nukes.
I saw one of these birds take off out of Nellis AFB and talk about a long take off roll! Reminded me of how long the German F4's would take to get airborne.
Fantastic video and great sound track..nice one!
0:22 is awesome because it is so low that you can see the exhaust that well
My absolute favourite war plane. Reminds me of a shark, menacing.
Such a badass plane. But still so god damn beautiful!
damt it... the pilots got the best job in the world!
imagine the fking buzz you'd get from this!! omg, it would be immense
Sweet video!

I love our Tornado's
Masterpiece
Tornado Rulez !! :D
Loved that!..thanks :)
Don't let the Tornado go like the Jaguar. Update it, and keep it flying! Amazing jet that kept the Soviets worried about the U.K.
The jaguar was good till India produced it and sold the tech of it to the USA for a bunch of green cards....Then it became obsolete.
awsome vid..
0:30 I bet the green keeper was pissed off about them messing up the fairway!
@29Gixxer the Tornado it is quite sharklike now you mention it. i recently met a civ. pilot who told me he always thought the Tomcat looked like a grasshopper, which is another perfect description in my book.

Hey, that's my video at 1:09, departing AAS in Kuwait
Italy, Saudi Arabia, Germany and the RAF...And its Luftwaffe
my dad flew these wen i was about 3 first jet i ever sat in will never frget it

Best job in the world
At last a decent vid without that effin dire organ music that air museums are so fond of....
Gotcha, Thanks.

They could fly so fu... low. fanatstic airframe.

Also, many people were shocked to see the A-10 flying at 75knots, dropping its payload over them...

tasman763 Because the tornado is not designed to be a dogfighter, it's a strike/interceptor aircraft. Different aircraft meet different needs.

Not the sort of thing you do after a heavy night, the night before !!
Was that a real SAM site at 4:30?
AWSOME video, great flying :)

Blur - Song 2
@MonkeyKong21 It strikes me as staying low so your under the radar and masked by what few and small gradients there are in a desert.
0:19 - 0:21. Now correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure that you cannot go full after burner and low over a residential area?...But who cares what you gonna do about it anyways?
