If KY develops Egor Demin into that projected lottery pick and people start seeing yes he is capable of building an NBA pipeline to the NBA. Yes, BYU has a chance KY does not sugar coat he tells these players what he can do to develop their game and how he can help them succeed.

BYU's coach was the top paid NBA assistant and would have been a head coach.
Oh, by the way, the owner of the local NBA team, 40 minutes from Provo, is a BYU alum and lives in Provo. He even goes to BYU games when the Jazz are playing.
Oh, and by the way, said local NBA team’s GM, Danny Ainge, is a BYU alum, former college national player of the year, and NBA champion too, and is one of the more respected GM in the NBA.
If you're a one and done, or even 2 year player, BYU gives you a great option to get NBA coach, GM, and owner exposure.

BYU has donors in over 100 nations either through its alumni base or through members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who love BYU as their religious-sponsored school. Since BYU is the only church-sponsored school that participates in NCAA athletics, its donor network is broad with access to billions of dollars. Now that BYU is in the power conference of the Big 12, you will see BYU become extremely competitive in the NIL marketplace.

One more thing...Ryan Smith, the owner of the Utah Jazz and billionaire who lives in Provo, Utah who is an alum of BYU along with Danny Ainge, former owner of the Boston Celtics and current CEO of the Utah Jazz are both BYU alum. I would imagine they are pulling all the strings right now at BYU with Keven Young and his recruiting efforts. It is also anticipated that Coach Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs who is also a former BYU offensive lineman will become involved in strategic endeavors with BYU since he has already won three Super Bowls in the last ten years. So, I believe BYU is powering up to become a significant blue blood. Ryan Smith has already committed in saying that "whatever BYU wants, BYU gets?" I think he can be taken seriously in his words.
In addition, Utah is gearing up for the 2034 Winter Olympic Games as a repeat success from the 2002 Winter Olympic Games that were held in Salt Lake City and the money flowing into the state. Ryan has just purchased an NHL team from Arizona recently and so the media markets in Utah are hot right now. We will see if there is an NFL team coming to Utah in the near future or not. Fans in Utah are very competitive!

@@davidfrey5654 exactly. Pope is already proving himself in areas where there were question marks. Young has never been a head coach. Just because some NBA players like him does not mean he will be able to get top talent to Provo to live that lifestyle.

It’s true that Kevin Young has never been a head coach in college, BUT he has been a head coach - in the G-League, with 3 different teams. I know the NBA and G-League are not the same as college, but the biggest difference is recruiting, and he seems to be doing pretty well with that so far!

  • @Vingancia06
    @Vingancia06 Před měsícem +17

Here's a couple other reasons why BYU might be attractive to the very talented, one and done, type players.
    1. Big 12 conference. BYU finally playing in a a major basketball conference, at times the best conference in the country, assures that the player will be playing top notch competition. Props to Gonzaga for being able to do it with their preseason schedule, but how much easier when the conference schedules that for you.
    2. Lack of distractions. Some would question whether potential NBA players would want to live the conservative, not quite but almost party free lifestyle, in Utah.
Well if your goal is to play a year, showcase your talents, and go to the NBA...
Do you really want to party? Or maybe you look at it as an intensive NBA preparation program where the institution itself will help keep distractions down.
    3. It's a fun venue. The Marriott Center regularly sells out and the BYU student section is amongst the best in the nation. Not many student sections are more rowdy, and most of those students are sober.
It's almost like a soccer player going to an academy where soccer is the focus.
    4. Wealthy BYU alums. While the LDS church is stereotypically frugal, and most Mormons aren't lining up to pay players under the table, NIL has opened the door to boosters being able to legally boost.
Now it's BYU's job to just try and keep things inside the lines with its external supporters.
And basketball, unlike football, is only a few players per class.
BYU will never be for every NBA wanna be, but for a player who's hyper focused on his craft, it might be a wise play.
