Traditional bells concert in Bernate Ticino for the feast of Jesus in the Eucharist

- The main church of Bernate Ticino is located near Milan, next to one of the oldest still-preserved palaces of the nobility in Italy. The magnificent bell tower in late Gothic style has eight bells of considerable size, cast in 1925 to replace the old bells. The eight bells are pitched in A major.
The ringing begins with some melodies of famous hymns dedicated to the Eucharist, which will be worshipped for 40 consecutive hours in the 16th century tradition. The moment is followed by the solemn concert, the high point of the feast, which consists of bringing the bells up and then bringing them down one at a time at regular intervals, forming different musical scales.
Emperor Henry III had a fortified castle built in 1045 to defend the territory of Bernate, next to a Lombard church dedicated to the martyr saint George. The abbot of the monastery of Saint Ambrose in Milan sold the land to a noble family, which in 1182 saw one of its members elected as pope with the name Urban III. The new pope granted the monastery to the most powerful order of the time, granting the title of provostry to the old church, which was then rebuilt and enlarged during the 13th century. The church was completely rebuilt in 1618 to its present form; when the monastery was abolished in 1772, it was turned into a simple parish church. One of the paintings in the church was made in 1588 by Simone Peterzano, with the help of his pupil Caravaggio.
