  • Got few hours of relative clear sky to capture 'The Green Comet', C/2022 E3 (ZTF). Despite almost full moon (93% illuminated), got decent contrast. Comet has slightly developed tail that will decrease in next few days. After February 11th will be no longer visible on the northern hemisphere. At the moment of capturing 741 photos with Sony a6300 with Sony Zoom lens (18-105mm, f/4, set at 105mm, f/5.6), the comet is closest to the Earth - 42.5 million kilometers. Already getting away from the sun...
And, yes - tripod with tracking head is not properly polar aligned. Too much trouble with the reticle that moves inside alignment scope. I did not use the telescope because even that short tail will be cut off.

I wish that I can capture longer time-lapse of the comet. But clouds cleared around midnight (local time in Croatia), and after little bit over 4 hours, battery on the camera died. No time for the preparation of fixed power supply. Constantly having problem with the reticle (glass element that has designation for polar alignment). There are three screws for alignment of the reticle, but due to temperature difference - it moves down toward the eyepiece, thus out of focus. Too much tightening, and it can break. I decide to mount Sony a6300 camera on that tracking head (tripod) because telescope (750mm focal length) has too much magnification that may cutoff the tail of the comet. I wish that I have some other Sony or Canon telephoto lens for capturing comets, but I haven't...

It is faint to the human eye. Even with binocular it is hard to see. Anyway, you have free software for astronomy. So you can always know where is the thing you are trying to find: stellarium.org/

@@MilanKarakas really? if so when it'll gone to the point where we can't watch without binoculars/telescope

Sadly, the comet going away from the sun and will be dimmer and dimmer over time. February 11th is the last day where it is visible on northern hemisphere, at least for my latitude (cca. 45 deg.).
