No one is denying that she broke the law. The issue people have is that she is being punished far more severely than most people would for such a minor crime. They are treating her as if she's a murderer or something. That's why the US government considers her to be "wrongfully detained". Not because she's innocent, but because the punishment does not fit the crime. It's obvious that Russia is locking her up for political purposes and not because they're that concerned about a small amount of thc.
