I walk my GSD female pup 2 miles a day in .5 mile bits. She’s been walking at least 1 mile per day since 1 month old and she’s now 4 months. I hope it didn’t hurt her she never seemed tired or over walked.
You are less likely to cause problems if you are going at her pace
Always have been careful with walks. Playing in garden, then after the last shots at 4 months a trip in the car to a park for a play. I didn't even let my pups climb stairs to protect soft bones. They all turned out great dogs, so this system worked for us.

Yes, but I think their use as a ball thrower for dogs came first - not certain though!
Well, I've been way over walking my puppy then. I assumed that an hour a day would be fine, but apparently it's 15 minutes a day and no more than that, that seems strange, a strangely small amount of time. Especially considering when she starts to slow down around the 45-minute mark, sometimes I'll pick her up and carry her, but then right when we get home, she plays hardcore in the yard for 3 hours after with no problem.
We took our German Shpehere to puppy school classes with 6 other puppies. He was the noisiest dog there, barking at the other dogs which never really changed over the 6 weeks. After 5 lessons our German shepherd breeder told us not to take our puppy to puppy classes for socialisation especially if the classes were indoors as this is not good for German Shepherds. So eventually stopped going to puppy classes as we decided it was getting him too wound up to learn anything. So now we have a 7-month-old GS that still barks at other dogs doesn't like being left alone and can't walk him early in the morning because its too quiet and birds chirping or even someone closing a door startles him. But one of the biggest issues we have is his biting and jumping. Trainers have told us to ignore him or distract him, but this is ridiculous when you turn your back on him he bites your bum or jumps up and bites your shirt, ripping it. We have tried the gentle behaviorist approach and yes it's good to understand the dog's behaviors but the approach in my opinion just doesn't work as he's not being corrected for the biting behavior. So we are stuck and don't know what to do we've spent nearly £1,000 on different trainers. I know this is a long process, but 7 months in was not expecting the biting issues to be ongoing.
I am getting a Australian cattle dog pup this week if 5min a day is recommended for a walk then how can you get them around all the different things socialisation wise then?
I walk my 8 month springer for two hours a day in the mornings at a regular pace in the countryside, he’s off the leash most of the time and can’t keep him out of the water, he’s a strong swimmer. Would you say this is too much for his age ? He’s obedient and comes to the whistle
I have a 16 week old border collie. I’ve been walking him twice a day with our older collie for 20 minutes midday and 40 minutes in the evening and then do mental stimulation at home. I walk at an average pace and he’s usually ahead of me but I’m worried that I’m walking him too far, he’s never shown any sign of getting tired on a walk but like you say they’ll just carry on?
