Exploring Russia's Forgotten Nuclear Town

- Welcome to one of the Russia's unfinished nuclear towns - Kamskiye Polyany. The reason why this town began to be built was construction of the Tatar Nuclear Power Plant that was supposed to become the main source of cheap energy for numerous local industries. Construction of the Tatar nuclear power plant began in 1982 in times of development of nuclear energy in Soviet Union. Simultaneously, a new town for future workers of the plant was constructing. However, after the tragic events of Chernobyl nuclear disaster and following protests of activists, construction of both power plant and town was stopped. I went to Kamskiye Polyany to understand how do people live there and what is the current state of the construction site of the nuclear power plant.
Enjoy!

Impressive how well maintained the panelkas are, given that the town is essentially a "failed/abandoned" project.
It's always a great day when there's new Vagabond videos.
You're fantastic and I'm always looking forward to watching your videos and learning about wherever you're taking us.
What a pity that again this is an old video from 2022. But at least, as you edited it now in 2023, it shows that you are well. That' s an important message for us viewers.👍👍👍
Congratulations on the 100k. Well deserved!
I really liked the interviews. It would be interesting to see similar interviews form other parts of Russia, Central Asia and so on. Hope to see more of it
Fascinating as always. Always very interesting when you get an opportunity to interview the locals.
You're videos are incredible. The history in your storytelling is amazing. You give what most people would think is boring and dull, actual life such as these towns. You ask locals about their expereinces and it great to hear those stories that would otherwise go unheard.
I was really impressed with how well the city is maintained even though it struggling to stay alive.
Fantastic!!
You and Bald and bankrupt together, what a spectacular idea.
Keep up the good work.
Awesome video, I want to explore Russia so bad,l but I can’t read or speak any Russian. I’ll be fine in the big cities, and yeah I’d be able to survive in rural Russia, buy food and hotel rooms etc, but I wouldn’t be able to engage in half of the activities you do or in 90% of the conversations.
I think it would be very challenging without knowing Russian. I’ll learn 😭 I’ll go in a few years when I’m done with school
A rising GDP by an outside company is nearly always bad for locals. luv your vids dude.
Neoliberalism 101

Great video, keep em coming bro
very interesting video.
thank you!
fascinating stuff. Thankyou for posting!
Big congrats on 100k!
Nice how friendly the locals are. Seems rather bleak to live there though.
It's not bleak living in in provincial russia when you have the dear leader of the nation v. Putin with his immense power and unmatched geopolitical wisdom shining like 1000 suns upon the vast expanses of russia filling it's populations hearts with pride and adoration. Not bleak at all.
Hey mate! Can i make request? Can you visit coty where russian locomotives 🚂 made?
Dude, you have a crazy potentiality, you are a great storyteller and the filming skills is very amazing. But..........please do something for the audio. it ruins the great video everytime. Thanks
Well, some of these videos were filmed a year ago. So the difference in quality is when it was filmed.
You have already snow in the East in Tatarstan? It is time to bring the skies out!
Congratulations Ivan. I love watching your videos,. Such a great blend of exploring and learning about Russia and it's history. Thank you for terrific work.

Ur Country is beautifull...
Shame human behaviour/selfishness
like anywhere else in the world made alot of damage to it.
But still I love ur channel.
It is so nice to see your videos, my friend, Russian history is so fascinating. That mystery from time to time has surrounded it. New subscriber here!
ok theres you . shiey,, gifgas badcat .. which other channels like this or from same crew are there mate ???... love these train hopping and explore vids cheers
Video is great! The accent is still brutal after the years. 😀
The deadpan delivery of "we have discovered the second casino, which is called Manhattan. Accidentally." made me laugh out loud
Love to watch your videos my man, it gives a lot us of perspective and insight, and in my opinion show that all us humans are alike all across the globe. Governments may do dumb stuff, but through it all we are human. Humans don't hate each other, governments do , and make us fight, tho we may not want it
this is so cool
subbed.
please get some wind protections for the mic, this is hard to listen too :) Super interesting video though!
Congrats on 100k dude. I've been subbed to you since your channel was small af
Is this an old video, or are they already covered in snow!?!?
New sub here bro, I love your channel. Russia is absolutely gigantic.
ПРИВЕТ, МОЛОДЕЦ 👍

Looking at the location on Google Earth and time stamp 2004-2020 and the drone footage at 10:20 it seems the old location is being demolished and returned to nature. Is this because Moscow policy or are materials re-used by locals?
Сеголня уже есть снег в этом городе?? Привет из Америки)
Older video 😊
i once dated a russian girl from Almetyevsk witch is close to that town
I am surprised that more cities in cold climates don't do what that one city in Quebec did. Build everything in one big building so that you don't have to go outside to access things like grocery, movie theatre, your apartment, etc. It is all in one with everything linked together.
It’s a shame the environmentalists don’t understand that nuclear power is a lot more environmentally-friendly than any other type of power generation. Modern reactors are very safe, Chernobyl only happened because they were doing a dangerous test and the reactor had flaws.
So everyone started building better ones. And then Fukushima happened. The problem has always been: if things go wrong, they go really wrong. As a temporary solution, I think nuclear is the way to go, but in the long run, we should not persevere with it.
@@hardanheavy ah yes bulding a nuclear powerplant on the rim of the pacific ring of fire.
@@kitosjek9541I know right? They had a gazillion experts telling them it's fine and modern reactors are safe, of course. In hindsight, we can all say what went wrong. The problem is: it went wrong and really wrong. You just don't know what the next surprise is going to be.
I guess it also had to do with the economic chaos of those very last years of the USSR/first years of the Russian state. Those gargantuan changes ripped the entire economy apart.
@@swallowxxVery well possible. The reasons don't really matter for the end result though.
Amazing and well maintained town, kind of beautiful too
Viewers often don’t understand the tremendous effort, time and money that goes into making these videos... All for essentially -nothing(?)
It is tremendous effort, but who suggested it was all for nothing? His hard work is paying off because his channel is growing. Quality speaks for itself.
So many vibrant cities and towns all over the former USSR that got abandoned this way in the final years of the union or the first years of the new republics. And still suffering to this day. Truly outrageous.
What is the current population?
Привет земляк.А на русском языке у тебя будут выходить видосы?

Hello from SE USA! I like to learn of Russia. This town is maybe the size of my own in population. Very interesting to see the development of the city that never became what it was obviously planned to be. I consider present activities in Ukraine; the west wants to take for itself
resources that are specifically East Europeans birthright. No western-funded zLENDsky in this city! Yet, effects are the same! I support the
Russian Federation. Thank you for this video!
What is your name Vaga Vagabond?
This is were Bulgarian was born😂 Tatari
Bulgarians will get offended by your comment lol
Always big promises from the oligarchs, all to go in their own pockets at the end. I feel for these forgotten people.
After a recent 1420 video where young Moscow people were polled at 70% voting for Putin next year - I cannot subscribe to any Russian channels anymore. It's a shame, but it's how it is. As nice as Ivan appears, I do wonder about even him!
Buh-bye, Russophobe.
@@black_eagle Go and Look for yourself then: 1420 'Will you vote for Putin in the next elections'. I don't think you can use the word phobia. This is 70% supporting a man who has threatened to nuke my country on more than one occasion. I just don't want anything to do with Russians anymore as a result.
Priveliged american whining
in case you REALLY are interested - there is one video of his which actually states his opinion / side. the only one which is of a more political approach, you will find that on the channel without any difficulties.
@@sundancer77 Look - I have been very enthusiastic about his videos, sent him money in response and so forth. I did have slight doubts when he was in Mauritania given that Wagner are in the region: the attire and so forth. However I think he was more influenced by 'Storror' who - by the way - come from where I live in England and who dress in a similar manner. Point is at 100 000 subscriptions, he needs to be more clear about where he stands (without putting himself in danger) I think that is his duty to his western followers who got him there. The whole Russian apolitical thing does not wash with me. This is leading to more and more horror both in Russia and abroad. And the 1420 70% figure shocked me. If he makes some kind of stance, then I'll be the first to re-subscribe!
My father's family left Russia in the 1960s. Seeing terrible places like this, I am SO glad that they escaped.
