    Yep, I sometimes feel like the only person in the western world who hasn't seen the Lion King, Aladdin, the Little mermaid or Frozen. Still, i guess that perspective is a new one for this game. Coming in not having fandom for the IP meant i mostly looked at the game, which i found surprisingly good.

      The base game seems neat, I just hope for a non-branded version. Few things take me out of a board game faster than it being a tie-in with something I have any level of familiarity with.

      You have a little one in your life now, don't you? I'm sure you will end up watching some Disney over the years, loving some and loathing others. I think kids have a habit of watching the same films on repeat (I was guilty) so it could be a love/hate relationship! Some of them are genuinely great films, though. Tangled is WAY better than Frozen, which is overrated. The Emperor's New Groove is also great fun. Anyways, it's nice to see IP being applied to better games. It should improve family game nights over the next generation.

      Yeah, we have Disney plus as well. Mostly so i could watch Mandalorian, clone wars etc. Being the giant Star wars nerd that i am. Which is also why i didnt wathc much Disney as a kid. Didn't have laser swords and x-wings.

    I'm not a Disney fan or anything, but I did like how well the game hooked its mechanics to its theme. Abu or Aladdin stealing the lamp from Jafar is incredibly accurate and, well, you also accurately feel Jafar's frustration. There's was definitely more to the game than I was expecting when I played it for the first time. Great video!

    If you had low expectations going into this, I could definitely see you being pleasantly surprised. I came in with high expectations based off a couple reviews and it met them initially but after subsequent plays the flaws started appearing and ultimately lead to me moving it on. It is not as beginner friendly as I was hoping. I tried playing with my adult friends who play the occasional game and it was a longer than necessary and harder to understand game than I had hoped it would be for them. Besides that, the asymmetry made the game swingy and the order of the cards in the deck can hugely impact some villain's games. Some villains seem to rely on others "attacking" them by playing the heroes against them and if everyone avoids doing that it can actually hamper their game which means your victory is out of your control... I can see why people like this game but it wasn't for me or my group after we had played 4 or so times

      Yeah, i didnt give it the gold medal as i could see some of those cracks. Like if hook draws pan on turn 1, he's likely to win the race a lot quicker.

    I've been playing Villainous for a year and a half now with a core group of friends. We have all the expansions and track the data for wins and losses for all characters. It's honestly amazing. Highly recommend.
    Disney is far superior to the Marvel version even though the mechanics are very similar.

    In terms of production, it is a fantastic game. But our plays have really dragged along, just not for our group I think. I can see this being a wonderful stepping stone for folks coming from mass market thanks to the Disney IP.

    PLAY WITH THREE OR MORE PLAYERS. I played one-on-one on Tabletop Simulator once, and I spent so much time trying to manage the Fate cards the other guy kept heaping on me that I couldn't even enjoy playing.

    Interesting. This nudges me closer to getting a game I haven't really considered getting. My teenage girls are old enough where they usually do their own thing and Dad needs to pick and choose his spots to get a family game in. The theme would be a bit of a draw, but I don't know if I/they would be interested enough to get this and push for this game. Our together favorites remain games like Ticket to Ride, One Night Ultimate Werewolf (or Alien), Dixit, Sushi Go, the very underrated City of Spies, and occasionally, Betrayal at the House on the Hill.

    I’m not sure what it is about this game that just doesn’t get me excited about playing it. I love Disney but i think this game is just ok. It’s also more complicated than it seems, or at least I’ve had more trouble than expected trying to teach it to players that want to know everything that every character does.

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG Před 2 lety

      I think that's its stress point, is when people want to know what everything does at the start of their first game. I found it fine to teach folks their own and give notes on the others for the first play, and then people pick it up for their 2nd plays
