Neighbors of RVA get it right, like Albemarle, because the schools often competed against Powhatan, Midlothian, etc. I too was confused when Pow-uh-tan wasn't right.

I live near Basye. There is a ski resort there and in high school I worked one winter running the ski lifts. Mainly the bunny slopes. I live near Basye. There is a ski resort there and in high school I worked one winter running the ski lifts. Mainly the bunny slopes. I would fall asleep in the booth and wake up to the ski school people throwing snowballs at the window, cause someone fell down and I needed to turn the lift off. Haha.

I used to work with someone that pronounced Buchanan the same way. I wonder if he had ancestors from around there.
Folks named Buchanan in that part of the Valley pronounce it the same way as the town.
