    KRAFT MAC AND CHEESE
    Ingredients
1 box (7.25 oz) Kraft Macaroni & Cheese
    1 1/4 cup water
    1/4 cup milk
    4 Tablespoons of butter
    Directions:
Put macaroni and water, butter and milk in the Instant Pot. Close the lid and turn the vent to a Sealing position. Press the "Pressure Cook" or "Manual" button and set the time to 4 minutes on High pressure.
When it's done cooking, do a quick release.
Open the Instant Pot the cheese packet. Mix the macaroni and cheese with a spoon so the cheese powder turns into sauce and the sauce is evenly distributed.
    RICE A RONI
    Ingredients:
    Rice of Roni Box
    1 3/4 cup water
    1 Tablespoon butter
    Directions:
Add 1 1/2 cups + 2 Tbsp water to the pot. Add in the contents of the box (seasonings too) and 1 Tbsp of butter.
Lid on, vent sealed. Set the timer for 5 minutes.
Perform a quick release. If foam starts coming out move the valve back to sealing and wait 20 seconds and then try again.
    Stir the rice and serve.
    HAMBURGER HELPER:
    Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
    1 3/4 cup of milk
    Directions:
Brown a pound of ground meat (beef, chicken, turkey) in your Instant Pot using your SAUTE function. Drain off any excess grease.
Deglaze the pot by pouring in 1 cup of water. Then add in the box of Hamburger Helper and the seasonings. Add in 1 3/4 cup of milk.
Lid on, vent sealed. Set the pressure cook time to 0 (zero).
Perform a quick release. If foam starts coming out move the valve back to sealing and wait 20 seconds and then try again.
    Stir. Serve.

works great. i love that it has stainless steal pot inside czcams.com/users/postUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg and not the one with coating. we used to have a coated pot before, and the coating slowly peels, and i am sure went into the food that we cooked. Absolutely love stainless steel, and will not use a coated product again. This pot has many settings and many buttons, and i need to sit down with a manual to figure out which setting to use. I used the basic functions, and even though i am not technologically skilled, i turned it on and assembled it without any help.Very satisfied with this product overall.

Great ideas. Here's a tip: when you add the packet mix, add the powder before the noodles. Makes it easier to mix it into the meat without the noodles in the way. Also, I used to be a fan of hamburger helper. Now I just make my own. It's cheaper to skip the box and just use noodles and beef broth and mix into your meat. Tastes the same but is healthier. To thicken stir in a slurry of corn starch. You can add onions and mushrooms to your hamburger if you want. Or fresh spinach at the end.

The powder is just the beef flavor. So if you use beef broth instead of water you don't need any extra seasonings in my opinion. I do add salt and pepper and you could use onion and garlic powder if you like it. I like to just add onions and garlic to the meat while it's cooking.

@@christinesexton939 Hmmm, i like the lasagna flavor and that's not beef flavoring, I'm all for being frugal but not sure how I'd create the seasoning for that.

Well, box meals are generally less healthy than real foods so you could just not buy them and cook from scratch instead, which is very quick in an Instant Pot. Then you wouldn't have to wonder what to do with them. I'm just sayin'. I am even finding the frozen box dinners that I used to depend on are no longer faster.

We used to make the Kraft mac and cheese in our IP all the time. Then my son had a virus, got sick, and never wanted to eat it again. :( We would make 3 boxes in the 6 quart or 4 boxes in the 8 quart. It's so creamy because all the starch from the noodles stays with it instead of being drained. We always added the milk and cheese after it cooked for 3 minutes. Perfect every time! Will definitely have to try the rice-a-roni. Looks yummy!

I just followed your directions for making a box of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese and it turned out well. My variations included adding 4 sliced hot dogs and some cayenne pepper to spice it up. I took care to ensure that the liquid covered all of the noodles before I added the butter and hot dogs. When making this, I recommend immediately reacting to the cooking timer to release the steam and stir in the powdered cheese. Some of the noodles stuck to the bottom of the pot, but with quick reactionary time and vigorous stirring I was able to prevent them from scorching. The Instant Pot might not be the best way to cook this meal though. If you are looking to avoid having to use a strainer when boiling the noodles in a pot, there are pots with pouring spouts and special lids for straining. The downside is that you then need to nuke the hot dogs in the microwave before mixing them in the macaroni.

I like the Knoor individual packets that have rice or noodles. My fave is thr broccoli and cheese and I've been making those in my IP for awhile now but I don't pour directly into the pot. I use those little silver containers, the ones you make the meatloaf in, can't remember the name but that way only the little dish gets dirty and not the whole pot. Plenty of room for over 2 cups of rice FYI.

Are you using the exact amount of water specified on the rice a roni box or did you reduce it down a bit? I think the different varieties may have different amounts specified so just making sure I do this right?

  • @AlanMillerFencepost

As a gluten free option I do this with some of the Zatarains boxed rice mixes. Precooked chicken and/or sliced up rope sausage, frozen mixed veggies, a 14oz can of diced or whole tomatoes (sliced up a bit into large chunks), maybe some diced up carrots, pretty much just wing it on what to throw in. 2-2.5 cups of water. Oh, and a jambalaya, dirty rice or Spanish rice mix. I've used 10 minutes then 5 natural release, but could probably come down a bit.
If adding shrimp I've only used precooked tail-off, thawed and added *after* cooking so they can warm up. I hate to think what they'd be like if you put them in at the start, but it would be bad and your house might reek off horribly overcooked shrimp.
