*Thoughts:* I was kind of neutral on Australia at ESC at first. The songs were sort of basic and my feelings ranged between being like "oh, this is pretty good" to "OK I will forget about this forever". Then they introduced Australia Decides, which opened the door for a way wider variety of songs and artists to get a chance at representing Australia, and Kate Miller-Heidke the magic depression-killing space fairy flew from the sky to save us all and become the first Australian entry I adored ❤️
I really like Montaigne as well and am excited to see what she comes up with next year. If anything having a full year to come up with a song and performance can only be a good thing because imo the main flaw of Don't Break Me was that she had too many great but clashing ideas that she needed to finetune. (I used the footage from her proposed ESC staging as an example of that.)
Thanks Australia, let's exchange points again soon in a totally apolitical way xoxo
Next in this series is the most FUN AND WACKY country (no, it's not those tryhards from San Marino).

I see this opinion pretty often, but 1944 happens to be my favourite eurovision song ever, so unfortunately I cannot agree 😂 Dami certainly has the voice but I personally don't really feel the song. She will probably return in 2022 though so let's see if she can win it all!

@@dramadory5329 Hmm, in 2011, I go between 'Taken By a Stranger' (my current fav), 'Love in Rewind' and 'Madness of Love'. For 2017, I used to be between 'Amar Pelos Dois', 'Blackbird', and 'Origo', but lately my love for Joci has multipled a lot, so I think it's a firm favourite now :) In 2001 I really like both 'Die For You' and 'Never Ever Let You Go' virtually the same amount. And 2018 is my all time favourite year, I usually just say that 'Mercy' is my winner, but I'm also beyond obsessed with 'Mall', 'O Jardim', 'La Forza', 'Stones' and 'Non mi avete fatto niente' and may prefer one of those depending on the day!
It's a little tough because making decisions on rankings is kind of the whole point of my channel! So I just make an impulse decision in the moment and respect that my feelings can change whenever they do.

      @@eurovisiongal7007,
Sometimes it is too difficult to choose, but we are all human and our opinion can change and this is not bad at all.
I agree with you about 2011 and 2018.
And my favorites are almost the same as yours in both years.
(my winner is 2018 - "Non mi avete fatto niente" and since 2011 everything is very difficult).
In 2017 there are many wonderful songs, but almost immediately the winner was determined - Kristian Kostov.
I haven’t watched 2001 yet, I had time only until 2003. (we are reviewing Eurovision with the whole family, as my family loves this contest for a very long time).
It is still very hard for me to determine the winner in 2015 and 2009.
I like winning songs of those years, but also I like other songs no more, no less.

australia is actually my fav country in eurovision - in my rankings they had an average place of 9th-ish. i love all of these so even last could easily be first if it was for another country.
    1. 2019 (WHAT A VOICE!!!!! australia have got some phenomenal vocalists! i gotta be honest and say that the song was a mish mash of interesting sounds which kinda worked but the live performance of this is the best bit. all im saying... shes lucky she didnt drop the microphone lol)
    2. 2016 (WHAT A VOICE!!!!! dami... well... what can i say... she turned a mediocre song into one of the iconic modern eurovision entries! i really hope she comes back like everyone says she will)
    3. 2015 (another australian with epic stage presence! guy slayed on that stage and got australia a well-deserved 5th place)
    4. 2018 (this song is a banger!!!! jessicas stage presence is epic and it makes up for the fact her outfit was constructed by a toddler)
    5. 2017 (it has grown on me loaaaads even if his semi final high note kinda kills me a bit)
    6. 2020 (so unique and the live wouldve been great but the song isnt memorable enough)

    YESS MY COUNTRY AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
    6. Yeah this is the weakest one. But this is actually a good song. The studio track is outstanding, it just flops live (ESPECIALLY in the semi). It wasn't in my qualifiers purely because of the performance, but I wasn't upset when it did qualify. But let's be honest here, 9th is way way way too high. And I would have taken Blackbird over Don't Come Easy literally any day
    5. Basic? Yeah. A complete bop presented by an incredible performer? YEAH. I love her energy and hot take I like her dress and her dancing and the staging (the colours are so pretty tho). My only complaint is that Jessica's rly famous in Australia and this is nowhere near her best song. I rly recommend u listen to it, it's called Sunday and it's honestly such a bop I'm mad it wasn't used for Eurovision
    4. Another incredibly famous Australian (at least in Australia, he's on the radio NON-STOP). I love this song. I thought placing above Latvia was a little...interesting, but I was so happy we did so well bcos the song is a bop and his vocals are so perfectly controlled. Also, this was the first Eurovision that I remember watching, so I have very fond memories of this song and watching it with my family
    3. Only third? What a hot take. I love this unashamedly and it was my second in 2016 (didn't come close to Jamala but it's still phenomenal). The song is great by itself but a tad boring; Dami's voice is what makes this. This will be forever remembered in Eurovision history and her vocal was honestly technically I think the best that year. Or Jamala's. Either one of them honestly, why not both haha. Looking forward to see what Dami brings in 2022 if she still plans to (but lowkey I'm sad bcos nobody else in the national selection will rly have a chance at winning)
    2. I fluctuate wildly on my opinions of the song. The staging was a mess, the dancing was ridiculously not good, and the costuming was interesting but not enough to be good. The studio track tho??? CHILLSSSS. The song as a song is amazing. But I have followed Montaigne as an artist for a REALLY long time, and her music is so unique and eclectic that hearing this song which is admittedly kinda basic was a bit of a letdown. Imho, her Eurovision song should have been Ready (rly recommend a listen, that chorus is one of the best-structured choruses in modern music). I'm hoping that she ditches DNA as writers (they were behind every Australian Eurovision entry except Kate, and Kate is the only one that RLY goes outside the box. Coincidence? I think not) and does something amazingly interesting like she usually does
    1. OMG SO GOODD. When Kate won Australia Decides I was literally ready to throw hands because I could not BELIEVE that Electric Fields did not win. 2000 And Whatever, RIP, you were a multilingual bop and Australia didn't deserve you. But anyway, I was salty for weeks, not bcos I disliked Kate's song but because I liked 2000 And Whatever so much more. And then I saw the staging at Eurovision and realised that I do be out here being a complete clown. My god the staging just made this. And the meaning behind the lyrics is so heartfelt and also not often talked about, which I rly appreciated. And don't even get me started on how good her voice is. 20 years in the future when Australia Decides is on it's 22nd edition, people will STILL be remembering how good Kate was. She has joined iconic status in the pantheon of Australian artists and I couldn't be more proud

I actually knew of Jessica in particular but also Guy and Dami before they competed at ESC! Call me Ms Worldwide, but really there's just some overlap between the UK and Aus pop scene sometimes.
I was pretty excited when Jess was announced for 2018 but disappointed that her song was just okay, and then the performance wasn't her best imo so I don't really care for the whole entry much. :( Purple/blue are actually my favourite colours and I thought the aboriginal dance break was a cute idea, but it just didn't all seem to work together. She's still great though

    6. 2019 - 3,5/10
I mostly dislike opera in Eurovision, and this is opera. The performance and staging was great, I’ll give her that.
    5. 2018 - 5,5/10
Just a bland pop song. It has some good moments, but it’s nothing special.
    4. 2020 - 7,5/10
This one’s rather simple, but effective. And it’s really nothing else.
    3. 2016 - 8/10
No wonder this is the best Australia’s placement so far, Dami has a good song and a great voice.
    2. 2015 - 9/10
A fun and catchy entry, love the sound and mood of it!
    1. 2017 - 9,5/10
I’ve always liked this one. It kind of stood out from the rest of the entries. The lyrics are nice, I love the melody, and the chorus is really the best part of the song for me. Plus, his screw-up at the semi never fails to make me laugh.
