I've just came from Rawa Blues Festival In poland seeing him live. When we were listening my friend just sat on the flor and started crying. In his music you can feel the sadness, joy and everything... true blues... hypnotizing as a voodoo...
Incredible. Really amazingly beautiful tone (in all registers).... also, you can hear the influence of Kora in his guitar playing. Quite astonishing, beautiful blues.
Just saw him last night at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in DC - amazing performance, both the solo pieces and the ensemble with his incredible band. What a talented bunch! It was a privilege to see this act live.
this version of skip james' classic seems to reconnect the blues with its african roots. There are real echoes here of kora playing - especially at the start of the clip
first time felt, first time aligned, utterly a music number that carreys you away, flowing on the ever lifetrack of life mojo. Sikken filejs. the melodi goes beyond most in the groove. Varagd.
I play this tune...a bit differently,,,but have never been able to get the vocal phrasing down to where I liked it...this vid is a huge help! Corey ROCKS!!!
This is the best delta style blues musician Ive heard since the greats like Johnson, Patton, House, James, you name it, either way he has to be one of the greats and I wouldn't have found him if it wasn't for a mistake from Last FM. It played Pony Blues and said It was Charlie Patton, but I know Patton and that was not him. It wasn't Cory either , but I'm glad it lead me to him. Still wish I knew who played the one I heard on Last FM though.
To Mr Joeyhasmojo: this is an excellent renditon of the Skip James blues. I was amazed to find the African influence in the Skip James song too. However , the blues sounds so good not only because the African influence; it is something about the American English language too.( Regardless about the actual meaning). Anyway a lot of thanks to Mr Corey Harris, one of the greatest bluesman ever.
Listening to the notes, and watching where his fingers are when he plays the notes, I would venture to say that he has the G and D strings raised one whole step each, but otherwise it's standard tuning.
@tudorcarare He's an artist. Just because he was playing in DGDfgd when he made his instructional video doesn't mean he's bound to play it that way 4 the rest of his life. Listen 2 the notes that are heard when U can see that he is playing an open string. Tune 2 DGDfgd and try playing along. Then try my suggestion. What's important to me is that it's a great setup for a nice long improvisational jam. So great to hear music that is not way too loud and full of ridiculous posturing. Thanks 2 Corey
TAYLOR???? I don't think so!!! An old slope shoulder Gibson OR NOTHIN'!!! Skip played the D28 too, but this is GIBSON MATERIAL!!! The Taylor sounds like a bolt on neck electric!!
I'm afraid I have to disagree. Not when Robert Lighthouse is an utter obscurity but Harris and others get the call from Hollywood (and priceless exposure) because they look the part.
Delta blues at it's possible best love it Adelaide Australia
You're the Man Corey, really appreciate that ❤❤ a big HUG from Sweden ❤❤❤
This is among the best blues guitar playing and combined singing I've ever heard. Corey is clearly a master of the blues.

Didn't catch that til you pointed it out. Too true, that's some deep roots blues!
Got the same feeling. Right away I thought of Mali - Ali Farka T.
Darko Pesevski yeah but the original song is from Skip James who came from mississippi but you're it always come from africa !

this guy is SO UNDERRATED!
Long live the Blues!
Absolutely transfixed by Corey's playing from the start, then that voice comes in. Pure talent all 'round.
Another wonderful recommendation from twin brother . Thanks for uploading it
He played the Chief Theater Songwriter Series in Feb 2019. One of the best shows I have ever seen...anywhere!!!!
głos, muzyka, styl to wszystko daje tak niesamowite połączenie że żałuje że dopiero teraz odkryłem tego Artystę...
Just saw him last night at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in DC - amazing performance, both the solo pieces and the ensemble with his incredible band. What a talented bunch! It was a privilege to see this act live.

Wow new favourite artist here!
This is very special indeed
Thank you for posting this, the best version of Special Rider Blues i've heard...!!!
I prefer Skips and he is not establishing the bass line, there is nothing haunting here, it's ok.
Triple like and 5 thumbs up on this one. :-)
So overwhelming with emotions
and a rhythm so intensely hypnotic, that you get lost in it.
The true essence of the blues.
Where have I been. This is awesome.
Corey, you nailed it.
Skip James tune. 🎵❤️🎶. Nice cover.
The influence from his travels to Mali is beautifully evident here.
yes...what a nice version of this old Skip James number - from mississippi to mali for sure...
first time felt, first time aligned, utterly a music number that carreys you away, flowing on the ever lifetrack of life mojo. Sikken filejs. the melodi goes beyond most in the groove.
Varagd.
So much skill. I cannot fathom the gratuitous amount of jealousy I have for him right now.
superb, is a genius... soul soul and more soul
I play this tune...a bit differently,,,but have never been able to get the vocal phrasing down to where I liked it...this vid is a huge help! Corey ROCKS!!!

blessed, truly blessed
REALLY DEEP
Man, you can really hear the African influence on Corey's playing. Reminds me of how it would be played on a Kora, the gourd instrument from Mali.

Sophisticated!
This guys amazing!
Divine corey
A new one for me. Another favorite in my book. So who does he play with? And what a
voice. I think he just covered the whole spectrum
OMG this guys badass
this is amazing,.,
Can imagine this song playing in SONS OF ANARCHY...
getting goosebumps
As i can see he tuned his guitar slightly differently, he tuned the B string down to an A, makes it more resonant with the root note... intresting :)
ruukaoz he tuned it to sound more West African.
smooth like glass.
just love him
Merci Corey !!! beaucoup !!
This song really got me feeling low. Amazing though.
i-love-it
Là, nours, chapoooo, toi un spécialiste du blues......Ah que, cou cou !!!!
AWESOME
so nice..

Who are the 17 people who did not like this? I️ want them to report to my office tomorrow.
stupendo!
Great Skip James rendition.
Underrated
yeah!
just found this by accident fucking brilliant
@salvadorePix I have a dvd from Corey Harris and he says that he is using DGDfgd.
good good stuff
bravissimo
a song i can crack a beer to and wallow
@surrealIdeal open d - skip called it cross tuning
I wanna play like him
@tudorcare Okay, I was wrong. I looked closer. It is EAEgae, which is DGDfgd, like you say, but moved down a step.
siiiick
Listening to the notes, and watching where his fingers are when he plays the notes, I would venture to say that he has the G and D strings raised one whole step each, but otherwise it's standard tuning.
damn he can play

Plays it as close to Skip as I've ever heard
I wanna get it so easy

What key is he in? E?
he went to bates
What is his tuning? Love his fingering

TAYLOR???? I don't think so!!! An old slope shoulder Gibson OR NOTHIN'!!! Skip played the D28 too, but this is GIBSON MATERIAL!!! The Taylor sounds like a bolt on neck electric!!
tuning?
Check out Roy Rogers. He's another great.
IM NOT COREY HARRIS !
Beep beep Richie.
… Keith who?
I'm afraid I have to disagree. Not when Robert Lighthouse is an utter obscurity but Harris and others get the call from Hollywood (and priceless exposure) because they look the part.
Where could I get lyrics for this?..
Mantas Minkauskas just listen n write them down bro
Kinda looks like Lebron James in his 50s..
Bullshit boys, Skip played this is open G.
A beautiful performance, but I really don't like that acoustic/electric tone. A more electrified Special Rider could be great.
