      Of cause no "A★" tank cause the germans needed another 20 years to start understanding tank development and naming cause that didn't start with B or C but with
      P anther and
      T iger and
      S turmtiger and
      F erdinand and
      M ouse

    • @DasPanzermuseum
      @DasPanzermuseum Před 5 lety +22

      Craig's approach to choose based on personal relations is great. Each Top 5 is explicitly "his" (or theoretically "her") personal Top 5. It's exactly this concept that makes the series so interesting. Heck, if they ever invite the director of the German Tank Museum to this thing, you probably get a list based on design, pop-cultural appeal or underdog status.

      G'day,
      It was a bit bewildering, until realising that his list of "top 5 Tanks" consists of the bits of surviving remnant hardware which he's had something personally hands-on to do with striking him as slightly less "top" than the Marques of particular machines upon which he grew up hearing old War Stories thereof, and especially those to which he's connected by ancestry or intermarraige...
      Apparently whereas I spent my 1960s infancy & childhood focussed on Curtiss Jennys, Avro 504-k's & Sopwith Camels...; this bloke was fine-tuned to grow up thinking that the pinnacle of Human Achievement was to participate in Armoured Warfare..., and he's apparently still entranced and fascinated by the imagined spectacle, 50 or 60 years after being "hooked".
      I was lucky enough to find a Millionaire with a Fokker Triplane & a Sopwith Pup (Replicas) and some Tiger Moths, a Hornet Moth & a Piper J-3 Cub to work for, when I was 17 ; to get it out of my system, kinda thing.
      On balance..., the people who contemptuously disdain and decry the telling of (glorious) War Stories to little children..., are probably right...
      Such is Life,
      Have a good one.
      ;-p
      Ciao !

Heck, even photos, put into a slide show would be so neat to witness. Seeing the inside stuff that nobody otherwise will ever get to see... the History channel in the USA used to have a series called, "TANK OVERHAUL".... That was always fun to watch, sure, there was some odd bits, but that is all part of it. Watching somebody sand blast parts although boring, is still part of what is required to get these units ready for display... I miss that series... I realize, it would not be the high quality video stuff that this channel has displayed consistently, but, I think it would be a great addition to witness all the trials that a team of people have to endure piecing one unit together... and I think you would do well on that being either on this channel or a linked sister channel of just that, of odd things they come across... No better reason to like the tanks than family! I do find it interesting that historians seem drawn to the older machines. If we exclude the family relations, it was all still very personal. As opposed to amateur enthusiasts who seem to start listing numbers when they pick a tank.
    Me? I like the M1 U.S. MBT tank series. Because it was born out of one very cheap (relatively) project. That hull was designed almost 50 years ago and it is still the best on the field. Compare it to the Bradley which came at a cost nearly 14 times greater, 10 years longer and got people fired, changed the political landscape of the US, and nearly got testers poisoned, and you see that the MBT 70 project was a beautiful thing!
