Red Feather Lakes Exploring! A little Snow Bashing...

- Saturday the 27th I took off early to get up west of Red Feather Lakes to do some exploring on the recently opened roads from the Cameron Peak Fire. They all seasonally close on December 1st anyway, so the days are numbered. But I had to check out where they were making fire breaks this last year.
There will be more exploring next spring when they open these gates back up as some of my favorite routes have been dozered pretty wide to allow for all the fire apparatus to get in and out during the 2020 fires. We might even be able to get in there early before the public and assist with trail clearing.
Hope you enjoy riding along! - Krátké a kreslené filmy
That granular snow under the wind-driven crust is a no go! Thanks Justin!
I am very cautious just like you are. I got stuck snow wheeling alone once and had to walk out, leave my truck overnight, and hire a backhoe to get me out. Lesson learned. Like you mentioned, different depths and consistencies can change fun into panic really fast. Thanks for another great video. Stay safe.
Hey fresh tracks congrats … love trail “freshies” … I remember how disappointed I was after the 90’s fires resulted in dozer trails … ended up recovering tourists and transplants out on unprepared adventures every trip for years to follow!!
Thanks for sharing!
What a good lad helping those people :)
Nice..... Thanks for sharing your little adventure
I've got a really fun one happening today!!! Taking TFL car/truck out with their ford bronco!
Enjoy seeing even though you have a capable rig, you still have common sense about conditions on those roads.
if i had other rigs with me, we'd have pushed it a bit. 10+ mile walk to help... no thanks.
Good to know there still some snow up in the mountains… heck even a snowman showed up at 17:07 on the left side! Lol
Nice seeing some of rugged Colorado. Glad you didn't push it on some of those trails.
Fun video! Gonna have to get north to do some wheeling.
Great video thank you!
At least the fire breaks provide some great views.
Also: I remember when Deadman Rd was seasonally closed my dad pulling a truck on 44’s out of a series of 7ft drifts one May while the Sheriff and Ranger watched with ticket books in hand …
The camera did great, and the fire breaks was not a surprise. Wheeling sensibly in the snow is the way to do it! Thanks
As the old saying goes. Don’t let chains take you where you can’t get out. In fact. An old saying from a snow abandoned jeep rescue from this channel.
Bingo! You never use the chains to get into trouble lol.
Great trails, haven't been up in winter, but did a lot around Leadville in winter.
Still can't get over the sound of that engine. When you revved it through the snow bank I'd swear it was some sort of Honda 4 banger. Not a knock on the engine, just not what I was expecting to hear. You must have the 4 cylinder Turbo?
Yep it doesn't sound very good lol
Those rocks at the 1:55 mark must have gotten there when the mtns were formed. The view at 9:46 is amazing.
Justin Great video. I can't remember do you have a video on the new jeep you have and whats in it both communication and recovery?
Thanks
i have recovery gear segments, but nothing for comms.
Triggs in a can, what are they?
Where can you find them?
Les Schwab?
You did a video with TFL trying to powering a house with a Ford EV. Did I miss the second try to get that to working?
no you haven't missed it. i'm bugging them to do a follow up. I know what the problem is and how to fix it without buying anything special.
Those rocks didn't sound too good hitting that truck.
I enjoyed the ride! What type of Ham radio gear do you have in your jeep? You guys do a great service helping people in need!!
i have an old kenwood D710a in here, it's getting tired... bought it brand new in 2009. but it still works great!
which go pro do you have? and what winch are you running im sure ive missed it some where
I've got a few, this was shot on a hero 10.
@@JustinKingOffroad im going to have to get me a 10 i like how it shoots
New GP? I hear that Max Lense mod does amazing with the horizon angel. Im wanting to do a MTB ride in the snow, we will see if we get any this year
I haven't put the max mod on it yet, but right out of the box it does amazing with keeping things level up to a 45 degree angle almost!!
@@JustinKingOffroad Nice! I also just got the 10, but I need a few more batteries for it
I have noticed it's hungry. I loaded the firmware update on it and set it to a tripod mode and that seems to have cut down on power use a bit. If you load the update, factory reset it after. I was getting SD card errors at first but they went away.
@@JustinKingOffroad Good to know, I was planning ongoing it a test run this week. Thanks for sharing your adventure man, always fun to watch
Got a fun one today. I'm taking TFL car out with their bronco!!
Can't you go anywhere when you have a winch? :) Would different tires fare better in this type of snow?
Nothing does good in this garbage snow. And yes you can go anywhere...EXTREMELY SLOW as the line spools in haha
@@JustinKingOffroad just got my winch, so will be rewatching your winching videos to prepare for winter.
@@gvsukids don't get me wrong, I like a good winch fest a couple times a year, but when friends are along lol.
@@JustinKingOffroad have you thought about getting a recovery ring?
I guess I'm not sure what that is
So what is your favorite snow wheeling channel?
Oh geez. Anything in the Pacific nw. Dirt lifestyle, bud Nixon, monster Jeep, there is more but those are the first few that come to mind.
@@JustinKingOffroad Thanks for you comment and. Living in North Idaho gets us some great snow wheeling, but I miss Colorado sometimes seeing your content. Nate does some awesome stuff! For other snow and wet, I dig Story Till Now too.
If you are a member of a rescue team and have to be rescued you'll never hear the end of it :)
If you are an off roader , getting stuck is a fact of life , the key you learn with experience is limiting how badly stuck you get!!
Truth!! Though I do go out with the blatant intention of pushing the limits a few times a year with friends. But we're setup to recover a tank if needed lol!!
That would be embarrassing to call your own team.lol
it's one of those things that you pretty much never live down.
