Just so all you cats know. The proper way to open a bottle of bubbly, if you actually want to drink it, is to hold the bottle at a slight angle with a glass ready, grip the cork firmly and slowly twist it. This allows the unshaken pressure inside to push the cork out on its own. You'll feel it start to go. If you hold on at this point, either by hand or with a towel over it, you'll slow the pressure change and make for a waste free open with just a whisp of vapor from the CO2.
If you're ON the podium, shake to your heart's content, but then initiate the cork movement with a simple twist. Win the Champagne race every time.
