He eventually had rhe department bring her some groceries and got her in with the food bank. Sometimes people aren't thieves they're really just in a bad spot and make a dumb decision.
@@antoniot5927 a lot of people are left without options - especially in our current economy. Ignorance solves nothing, and it shows especially with you saying that people who are *forced* to steal to survive deserve prison or punishment, despite already not having the three basic needs of survival.
@@antoniot5927 not everybody can. there's still discrimination in the workplace. there's still unfair pay just because CEOs want to buy their third boat for the year. Our economy in the US is failing. Hell I worked at a convenient store that was charging like six bucks for a candy bar. damn right I let people walk out with it if they had one and I noticed extortion is not the way our economy should be run. If I saw somebody who was clearly struggling and getting something that they actually needed like bread, or actual food again I let it happen because I've been in that position before. If you've never been there you'll never understand but sometimes we can't control things like that.
Years ago (before I became a LEO), i worked as armed security at a smallish neighborhood grocery store. A woman came in, looked around, then came to where the managers and I were. She admitted that she had planned to steal food for her kids (she was completely broke and had 3 days before a check would arrive). She asked to sweep the floors or somehow earn enough to buy food, because she didnt want to steal, despite being desperate. We (the employees and myself) each chipped in a few bucks, and we made sure she had enough food for her and her kids. She came back in after she got her check and tried to repay us, but we told her to keep the money in reserve in case she needed it in the future. Not everyone is as big of an ass as that putz.
When I first moved out of home. I really had no money and was struggling to get a job. I was in my local supermarket and had picked up all of the cheapest stuff i could find. Just rice and veg mostly because meat was more than i could afford at the time. When i got to the till, it came to €34. Unfortunately, a bill had come out of my account unbeknownst to me, and my card declined. I panicked and apologised and was about to leave when an older woman behind me grabbed me and smiling she said "its alright, I'll get it for you." She even gave me a massive ham that she was buying. I had ham for a week from it. Later that month, I found a job, and things got a lot better. I never forgot her kindness.
Not sure if anyone will read this, but hopefully someone will. Old Veitnam vet over here. Lived through some real shit in life. I just got out of the war in 1970. at the age of 30 since I got medically disabled.. Diden't have a job. Was almost homeless. I saw this store and the clerk seemed real kind. I asked him if I could have my groceries and that I would pay him back somehow. Life was real bullshit at that time. The clerk asked me if I was a Veitnam vet and I told him yes, he told me thank you for your service, and gave me my groceries for free. I started getting work and got money and repaid him back later. There is still some humanity in this world, we just have to find people who have it. RIP. Thank you Dave till this day.

I will NEVER forget the woman who saw me paying for gas with quarters and gave me a 20$. I put it right in my tank and thanked her profusely, she said "Don't worry honey, we've all been there. Just remember to pay it forward." That gas money got me home to my mom. My mama got me out of the apartment with the horrible man I was with, and I've been paying that small kindness forward any chance I get my whole life. If that woman is out there, or if you've ever helped someone like this, you're the angels sent to earth we need ❤ Thank you 🌈
I love it, I have always believed we should show kindness and help other people, to make the world a slightly better place and so if only for the hope they too show the same kindness to someone else.
my father is a detective, he never ever will get people in trouble (unless he absolutely has to) he will always try to help them. he caught a lady trying to steal for her kids once, he bought the food and medicine for her, and then proceeded to help her get a job near her house because he knew the guy that owned the small business. they still talk today almost 6 years later! love stuff like this. people like this don’t steal to be bad, they’re in tough spots.
My grandmother was a hard and proud woman. She always told me tho no one deserves to starve. She would feed anyone. That’s the only thing you could take from her and she would allow you to do it. I really miss that lady she taught me a lot in life
I was at a really popular store and a young woman was short on cash. I offered to pay for everything, but the store employee refused my card. They called security claiming she was trying to steal the food and baby supplies. Police were called and they were furious with the store employees. Several customers took the opportunity to purchase more food and supplies for the woman, the officers who responded wrote the store a ticket and arrested the security officers and cashier for filing a false report.
the thing is friend many people lie and even use kids that aint theirs, theyll keep returning and stealing all the time, there was this 3 ladies always asking for money in front of my home, the kids were dolls and they wear cheap clothes all ragged and stuff, they were living a decent life earning higher than minimum wage by begging a few hours, theres many examples like that in my city and they even send kids to beg and then use all the money for themselves, i did charity like that tons of times and may times ive come to realize those are scammers in disguise.
It happened at a gas station where I come from. The customer didn’t have his card with him and he wanted to go back home and get it while leaving proof of identification at the gas station. The gas station owner called the police and asked them to arrest the man. Police arrived, paid for the gas (20 euros) and didn’t arrest anyone. Police ain’t that bad after all
When I was a teenager in a very unfortunate situation, I regularly stole small amounts of food from a grocery store. I know for a fact the employees saw/knew but no one ever said anything to me about it. Very grateful to them
There ARE cops that behave like this. They just don't make the news. Small acts of kindness aren't publicized because they're not doing it for views or clout, they're doing it because it's the right thing to do in the situation they're in. There are horrible people in every profession, but there are also good people.
As a rave junkie I've met a lot of cops (shutting down the raves and hauling us out) and some will be nice and some will just be plain rude for no reason even if we co operate
Small acts of kindness don't generate the media frenzy some idiots want, but there are plenty of us who troll the 'good news' channels just to see true service men and women like this!
The right thing to do is pay for the food. If not it will encourage people to continue stealing - if the cop is so morally superior let her pay for it from her own pocket instead of trying to bully the shop owner.
@@jasminekennedy4774 Well she could of been on her way to steal other things and BTW, if that excuse gets you out of shoplifting charge, then a lot more people who aren't needy would take advantage of it (like San Francisco for example).

Im Asian and when i was young my parents owned a small sandwich shop in an urban neighborhood with mostly black people. It was lower middle class where they had many families struggling to make ends meet. My parents were hard business minded people but they couldn’t help but to help a few families because they just couldn’t afford to feed all their kids with the food stamps they were receiving. I thought the neighborhood seemed dangerous but it didn’t seem that way when i walked in their sandwich shop for the first time. My parents were so loved there. Whenever a seldom situation arises when a customer gave them a difficult time, other customers would step in and squash any and all disputes. They were there for 10 years. The community fully accepted my Asian parents and even came out to see them off and cried when they sold the business to retire. I felt for the first time what i feel now. We are all here in this world together
I was working as a bookkeeper at an A&P grocery store back in early 2000s in NY. A person left an envelope by the customer service desk. When we opened it, there was a $500 bill and a note: “I stole around $20 worth of food a few years ago. I was hungry, had no money, and was at the lowest point of my life. I’m living better now and have plenty. I’m sorry, and thank you.” We didn’t find out who it was, and my manager put the money in the donation box.
@@All_you_need_is_love2018Well we don't have them anymore. There used to be 500 dollar bills but they're no longer produced and they get taken out of circulation when they're put into a bank I believe. But they are still legal tender.
I used to work at a dollar general and homeless people and those who were struggling came in all the time and I’d buy them a little meal and something to drink or something simple like that, they were always really grateful and I knew that they really needed it, there’s a difference in people who genuinely need the help and those who are doing it to make trouble

i remember the time someone helped me cover the rest of my groceries. i was about $6 or so dollars short, and this really sweet old lady next to me helped me out and i asked “how can i repay you??” and she just looked at me and said “just pay it forward, sweetie”. since that day i’ve covered about 3 or so people’s stuff when i was able to afford it, even being as tight on money as i am, because i remember how it felt to not have enough. i still do it when i can too. i have learned a lot of stuff in my life, but one thing will always be burned into my mind, is to be kind to others.

He told me of a time he went to the store and had a few things but the lady in front of him was short, so he fronted her the money when the lady left, he told the cashier he'd need to put most of *his* stuff back and the guy behind my friend paid for my friend's stuff with their credit card.

Yea, this is just BS woke hollywood trying to further their agenda of portraying white men as evil and poor helpless blacks as just trying to feed their children. It's not working.
I’m so thankful for the way I was raised. People behave like something is wrong with me, but this situation is a reminder not to be wasteful. My grandmother fed everyone as well. People would know the times when she was cooking and showed up at her door. Sometimes she had to give them some of our food but we weren’t starving. I don’t know if it was God who made it possible because she fed everyone.
When I was in college, I worked at a local cafe chain and we constantly threw out food every single night. It was so much food. I would package as much as I can and there would always be a few homeless people outside so I would feed them. I almost got fired because some homeless people would be waiting outside the patio on my closing nights and would “scare the customers” even though they weren’t doing anything, literally just sit there patiently . My GM also tried to push a policy to stop giving away food and my coworkers had to cover for me a few times, even though the food was going to waste. While working as a server for a few years, it blew my mind how most restaurants have a “throw it out” policy instead of just giving the food to people who can’t afford to eat.
I'd do the same thing if I worked at a restaurant, but sadly the homeless don't "get it" and try to come to YOU for more food, screwing themselves out of food because we did it secretly...
Yes, you don't want swarms of homeless people around your business. Period. End of story. This isn't a conversation. They're often not homeless people, they're usually drug addicts and mentally ill unstable people that lash out. I used to be naive too. I used to actually do similar things. Until one of those junkie scumbags tried to stab me and then when we called the police he said my boss tried to pull a gun on him. We used to let the homeless people stay around outside and panhandle, until they started getting aggressive with customers. Then when we had to lay down the law, I almost got stabbed. They'll act real friendly when you're giving them something-- but that changes very fast bud. And they have a throw out policy because they don't want to face lawsuits from someone eating food that was left out at room temperature for too long and then they get sick and sue the business and then all of a sudden you lose your job because your employer goes under. And let me guess, none of them had physical disabilities that actually prevented them from getting a job and taking care of themselves? Right? RIGHT?!

So does the nonsense like "they're only stealing food" with a flat screen TV under one arm and a pair of Nikes under the other. Television and movie is pure propaganda
It happens in reality too. Not often enough, but try not to use limiting phrases like "only on tv/movies", "never/ever" and "always". Reality isn't black and white or brown and pink. It's gray or beige and sometimes both😊
Which is why food and shelter need to be a right not a luxury. All humans should be granted access to those regardless of circumstances. Homeless shelters and food banks are a good start but its not enough. We need a universal basic income. A set amount of money every person gets that's calculated to cover food and shelter. It can go on a food card and be a housing voucher if you want. But there should be no application process for the benefits, being human qualifies you for them and there should be laws forcing every rental to accept the government funds and regulating housing prices.

I mean….. same could be said about the guy, seems like he is barely chugging along and is barely financially hanging on if all those violation existed. So you have someone that is barely able to stay afloat wanting the cops to stop people stealing their stuff and someone who stole when in most areas they give you free food if you can get there. One probably has difficulty getting there and the other has difficulty keeping his business running. The bat instead of having a gun also isn’t something wealthy gas station owners would have. Also doesn’t matter if it’s 1.50 per person stealing, that quickly can add up to thousands. Also she’s likely to need to steal again if her situation stays the same so yeah didn’t solve anything
@@socketyellow3 He could also just be cheap and not want to invest in fixing stuff. We don't really know. What we do know is that he didn't have empathy at all and wanted her arrested over $1.50 bread, even after knowing she was left in a crap situation and just wanted to feed her child. He didn't have to give her the bread, but he could have had a bit of grace and have the police let her go. Instead he called her a crackhead for no reason(sounds pretty racist) and kept belligerently trying to get her arrested. Who would take care of her child then? Foster care? I assume since she has no one to go to that would give her bread, she also has no one to take her child while she's in jail.
@@Geekabibble crack head is more of a white thing, he didn’t call her that because she was black. It was because she was stealing like crackheads steal, this fictional man probably had dealt with more robbery as I doubt she went far to the wealthy part of the town. So he’s in a poor area where everyone is supposed to be let go? But you do know thieves come back if they don’t face consequences. Also 1.50 here then some of the next 500 people steal just a few bucks and then more and more. There’s a gas station channel with a video of a guy who kept stealing because he never faced any consequences. At first it was just snacks but as it progressed it was more and more. as she would have done if needing more food, so 1.50 today then gets more bold and steals more and more. Sure maybe changes location and then steals there until caught. Also yes that possible if it wasn’t that litterly everything was pointing at him not being wealthy. 1. He’s clearly had a problem with theft 2. He has a bat? Most people buy guns for safety in low income areas as he could get robbed. 3. He wouldn’t be there if he was rolling in money, he would hire a minimum wage employee and leave. 4. Pest control is much cheaper then the damage those rats would cause 5. The fact he’s in a poor area of town means less people have/willing to spend money. Sure some passing cars might spend more, but majority is sales would be from locals. The fact she didn’t steal from a mega store or went to a food bank tells us she didn’t travel much to steal. Like I get it, people need food and all that. But this is literally killing small businesses from losing profit. I’ve worked in restaurants before and these thieves steal hundreds worth of product or plate/utensils to sell if they aren’t caught. The worse thing is they keep coming back to same places until they are worry about coming to that location due to legal ramifications.

Butthey dont want to be liable if that person gets sick
Right? RIGHT?!
You did a great service to your community. May you be blessed 1000x!

Crazy that TV cops actually help the poor, more than real cops
I will always sympathize with those in true need but stealing is never the answer.
I do really hope there are some officers like them 2 ,out there, in our real world.

And this is how you protect and serve. I am a retired police and i wouldn't arrest her for no 1.50. You can tell if someone needs something or just wants something. Yes, stealing is wrong, and i won't justify that, but in this country, we have so many homeless, yet we send money to other countries for whatever reasons when we have problems right here at home.
Yes, I agree with you. I was always taught to take care of home first. There shouldn't be any homeless, especially veterans!! 💯
So true my country is the same thing, a lot of single mothers struggling to feed their kids with no help from the government yet they sending containers with food items etc, to other countries when something happens . I just don't get that.
You said what I have been saying til I am blue in the face for years. Take care of our house first.
We send money to other countries far many reasons -- but NOT at the expense of our Homeless and Veterans.
Trump did NOTHING for our Veterans OR the Homeless, while Republicans bashed President Biden for coming to our aid.

I’ve work in a few stores and someone stole and got caught the police would be called and we press charges
If someone came in said they we’re hungry and didn’t have money we would gladly give them food for free

I was at the grocery store and spent $18 more than I had. I was deciding what to put back and this sweet woman behind me said, Oh no! You need that stuff! Before I knew it, she had paid the remaining amount. I gave her a big hug!

Ill never forget the day i was trying to buy school supplies but unfortunately me and my friend didn't have enough money. The nicest lady in the world paid for it for us and when i asked how i could pay her back she told me not to worry about it because school is very important ❤❤❤
Many years ago, my (then to be future) wife and I were doing a loss prevention detail in Temple City for a large Grocery store chain. Most of the time, the arrests were what you'd expect: alcohol, tobacco, etc... One time, however, we caught a woman stealing bread and peanut butter. During questioning, it became clear that she was stealing to eat... We did kick her out, but we did not arrest her. Oh, and she left legally with the bread, peanut butter, jelly, milk, and a few more essentials to help her, as we had bought it (the manager even quietly slipped in some money).
Bless you both!

Why is it named Chicago PD, because CPD could give less of a fck bout anything, theyll prolly arrest dem both
Officers who show empathy are almost nonexistent. Stealing is still wrong, no matter what the circumstances, but when a seasoned, professional officer is more interested in saving the person than making jail the only alternative, then I say, thank you for your humanness ...you probably in some means, or ways saved their lives in the long run.
Theyre not rare at all. You just dont see it on the news because bad crimes get more attention
still thats direlicttion of duty
They still need to do their job FIRST... THEN be compassionate if they want to. They aren't there as a social worker, they are there as a police officer.
i don't think stealing is wrong in this circumstance. in my country this is called famelic theft and it does not configure as a crime. a persons life is more important then property

So being lenient on a criminal because of a story is peak weakness.
Mercy is a virtue some people don't have
I don’t think people understand the gravity of situations and how extreme conditions can effect one’s own actions to point of stealing, people are people at the end of the day, and the basic necessities are an entitled essential, please operate with grace and kindness towards people, God bless.
I mean….. same could be said about the guy, seems like he is barely chugging along and is barely financially hanging on if all those violation existed.
1. He’s clearly had a problem with theft
2. He has a bat? Most people buy guns for safety in low income areas as he could get robbed.
3. He wouldn’t be there if he was rolling in money, he would hire a minimum wage employee and leave.
4. Pest control is much cheaper then the damage those rats would cause
