Before the fight I thought Natalya would win. Smilla has that unfortunate Fairtex defense of blocking punches with her face, which isn't good for her long time brain health and especially bad against a knockout puncher like Natalya (and even more so if she plans to fight heavier opponents in the future). Smilla tends to keep her head along the centerline and rely on her chin, which works until it doesn't. Also she tends to start slow in all her matches, kind of typical for traditional thai fighters. And sure enough, Natalya popped Smilla's eye shut with her explosve right hand and I think it's fair to say she dominated the first round. In the bottom half of the second round Natalya's gas tank started to fade but in the first half she did great with that teep and that beautiful spinning back kick that put Smilla down. Too bad for Natalya that also pissed Smilla off and she put in another gear and finished the fading russian.
As I understand it, ONE did Smilla dirty with a mere 4 weeks notice to make weight and defend her belt. Very hard to do for a growing girl that also have her hormon cycle to complicate things. I think for instance Stamp or Haggerty gets more respect from the company.
I love Smilla's agressive style, but I'd love it more if she incorporated more kicks into her game. But I think it's just not doable to get more torque in her kicks at this body weight, she needs to put on more abdominal muscles for that.

It was a shame Diachkova didn't take a knee so they'd get one more round. One don't have standing 8 count so the ref didn't really have any other option. I'm pretty sure the fight with Allycia Rodrigues also was called with 2-3 seconds to go instead of her taking a knee.
Hopefully Smilla missing weight will finally get One to open another weigh class. She has asked for one since the fight with Buntan because she had grown so much since signing first signing with One.

Ah that makes sense. I thought I'd seen a standing count before but maybe not. Chatri seems to be on board with the bigger division, but I'm not sure how long that will take
