- In a bold move the minister of public works and infrastructure Dean Macpherson has announced that there will no new procuring of accommodation or offices for ministers and members of parliament. Will this make a difference to the budget of the department? #cabinet #coalitiongovernment #gnu #minister #MightiJamieTV
80 million can build more schools and facilities for the poor. Our ministers don’t need luxurious lifestyles. They’ve had a free ride for 30 years. Time to work
The age of retirement for Members of Parliament should be aligned with that of civil servants. They are all civil servants after all
I totally agree with you
Makes perfect sense.
Steenhuizen was on a flight with me without any body guards and only a driver picked him up at the airport in Cape Town. Why do they need so much and we struggle to pay for them.
Let's keep parliament in 1 city and have ministers share mansions with their Deputies as a team building initiative.😅
Heheee not a bad idea ...cos sure 10 rooms for one not needed.. so share n share alike n save lots 😊
😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂 now that will be interesting! Make it a reality show 😂😂
👌👌

Thank you to the DA minister, I as a citizen cannot afford new furniture or refurbishments. The little I have that goes to tax should not go towards refurbishments for ministers.

And so it starts!! Sorry Comrades, other people's money party is over.
These guys are dying for the DA to fail🤣🤣 they waiting for power to consume the DA, the DA knows what it’s doing.
Wish DA did what they brag about. Little was done in the WC with regards to building homes and schools. Sorry DA was nothing but a disappointment.
@@Tinker8531 and what do you say about the ANC? Have they done a stellar job? They are supposed to build schools, they are supposed to create an environment which allows development. You know I had a huge dispute with the DHA of home affairs and no one could help, the only person that answered their phone and actually emailed me back was someone from the DA! They didn’t know who I was, what was the situation but they helped me and put pressure on the DHA after I hadn’t received any feedback from them for 7 months. Pensioners, disabilty and foster care grants are in a pathetic low level and people are struggling to survive.
How do we balance the exorbitant earnings of the elite parliamentarians to those in poverty.
Good question 💯✅
Agree
EXACTELY!
Well and Perfectly said DA...ANC has been in a gravy train for 30yrs., We have to hold them accountable for the State Resources and unnecessary expenditure
Listen, my friend, if they were or are on a gravy train and they did their jobs properly, which allows for citizens to sit a bit on the gravy train, then yes , it will be some justification. BUT, citizens/taxpayers have to work their arses off and struggle to make ends meet. That's not humanly fair, rather, it's a gross, ugly scenario.
Well, I hope the DA screws these redundant ministers and politicians.
An honest minister at last
You are not looking deeply into this. This is a right step towards changing the culture that ANC has created in this country.
It is high time to pay from their own pockets. If the lowest paid employees can pay their bonds, rentals, helpers, car instalments, groceries, school fees, rates and water, and others with the little salary they are earning how come the Ministers and their deputies cannot do the same from their fat checks. In my opinion that luxury must come to an end and they must start using their own salaries like any other person who is working and the government will be able to repair or maintain all the state properties that are no longer in use because of the horrible situation. The government will no longer rent the office building but use their own for free of charge. There are a lot of dilapidated government buildings that are ignored nationally. Thank you to the DA Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure

Good job DA, every saving helps
Good. No additional money for the bloated cabinet. Maybe after they bring the unemployment rate down and shrink the cabinet they can have a raise.
What!! Have a raise?
@@breunissensanta393 If they can lower the unemployment rate it will increase tax revenue and decrease grant expenses. If they can also half the cabinet size they'll save 750 million rand a year. If they can do those things it would be worth giving them a raise to incentivize high performance and de incentivize corruption.
With that salary they can afford to pay for their own utilities, rates and helpers
Increase our electricity but PM'S get FREE electricity paid by poor people's tax money.
Yes, you shouldn't even be asking the question, they are already over paid.. you shouldn't be afraid to say that, they are over paid and they should be paying their own household helpers, they are over paid and already get too many unnecessary perks.
Well done DA 👏
But the DA in cape town already made away with the blue lights in cape town all those years ago. And stopped buying the new cars. Never been a lavish party like that. Also the premier has to be in Tuinhuis . Why not.

Thank you DA. This will work for All. No favourites. Yes they do get a lot So they can support themselves.
They must pay their home staff . They can afford
I actually think if they want to pay ministers and MPs so much, that's fine. But then let them fund their own cars, houses and security. Otherwise give them a modest salary paired with housing etc, but again have that be modest. And something like generators or solar panels should be for the minister's own cost. Otherwise they must deal with the load shedding the rest of us are having to deal with.
Let's goooo! South Africa for the win. It's about time they spend their own salaries to get to work and manage their own personal lives! 🙏
I think what's fair is that ministers should pay all their own bills with their salaries, like the rest of South Africans have to do. They should pay for water, electricity and rates. Then maybe they will think twice about raising tariffs every year. My mom manned to pay off her house, but now gets an old age pension. Almost all her pension goes on paying water, electricity and rates. How are old people meant to survive
Can you take us through the other ministries too please? This is the type of education we need as ordinary citizens.
Will do. Look forward to more videos.
If the DA can do it why couldn't ANC do it for so many years but they want to talk too much

The DA operate on PRINCIPLES !! Something those who don't apply them, don't understand. It's NOT about the small difference it may make to the fiscus, it's about eliminating wastage and eradicating corruption. Set standards, raise the bar, lead by example....concepts which are generally known to work, but which are rare with parties like the ANC, MK and EFF.
You got to lecture the ANC about 'human nature' when it comes to that economic growth and investment jeopardizer they call B.E.E...
I wish these Media pundits would dissect all the money-wasters the same way, this was a Semmy Plus for the DA.
Let's have a comparison of the ANC as well. Most of the Media BOFFINS will only point fingers at the DA, every time.
Welldone minister let them buy and renovate from their own pockets they are earning lot of money
The so-called "generation z" of Kenya, has made a demand that the salaries and benefits of their parliamentarians be reduced. The demand is fair and sound.
It’s definitely a lavish income.
A minister is, fundamentally, a human being like everyone else and should be capable of managing their own affairs. If they lack this ability, they are unfit for their role. Public service demands empathy and a deep understanding of the people’s struggles, such as load shedding. This connection can drive ministers to address issues more swiftly and effectively. Furthermore, performance-based rewards are essential. Ministers who fail to improve the nation’s economic situation and living conditions, like the ongoing prevalence of shacks 30 years post-apartheid, do not merit rewards. Rewards should be reserved for tangible, positive outcomes that uplift society.
Way too much spent by previous Gov. Changes are absolutely necessary, saving money is key. DA will make changes, but it will take time to correct the current chaos. SA needs to be patient. GNU has a lot of work to do and settle in new positions etc.
Jamie, for me it's a matter of balancing the scales. Where a minister's position must correlate with the reality of south Africa. They cannot be adorned with luxury, while some citizens live in utter poverty (keeping in mind global remuneration/economic ratios). In principle, a leader is the last to eat. Some Kenyan stated that a long term solution will be to remove the money or control thereof from political governance. True, cause every tom, dick & harry always wants to enter politics. We fail the practicality of life, we have needs & wants, and by not affording ministers luxuries will inculcate the spirit of servant hood.
Well argued. Thank you for your comment.
A minister gets enough money to pay for their own stuff. There are families who earn half that and live a very cushy life. The Gravy train is coming to a stop if the DA is allowed to do their work 🛑
Hitting the ground running, keep it up you will have my vote again
Over 200k per month without tersiary education. No managerial experience. Overpaid.???..it's a joke
A step in the right direction? A signal in good faith? Transformation and inovation might take some time and practice... Perhaps the problem with a microscope is it might not see the bigger picture yet... Time will tell after 30 years...
They are all ministers in the GNU and not ANC/DA/FF+/PA ministers. Time to start working as a team and stop trying to score points for a Party
So you are only expecting the DA to govern properly and "business as usual " for ANC?
Exactly. Benefits must be a reward for good work. It should be removed for all ministers up until we have removed every South African living in a shack and provided them high quality homes. Education. Jobs to sustain themselves and a beautiful country they can be proud of. Once we reach that spot they can have some benefits. Until then. They need to prove themselves….. all of them. The anc failed over 30 years
just to bring it to your attention IN the Netherlands almost everybody cycles It doesn't matter who you are its part of their culture. |Cycling is made easy because the country is flat with the highest point being a traffic bump in the road.
Change the prestige policy. If we haven’t gotten people out of shacks the politicians should be given any packages. 80 million a year to build high quality homes for poor people will fix toilet water electricity issues in one go.
These ministers also have above-average salaries to pay for furniture, upkeep, etc. for the mansions that they now have in addition to their own private residences. Regardless of whether it's government property. If they think R50 000 to replace a curtain rail is reasonable, they're either corrupt or they need to touch grass. Maybe they'll appreciate the cost when they have to pay out of pocket. It's about the principle of the matter. Why should ordinary folks have to pay for a minister's top-of-the-range furniture when they can barely afford to buy bread?
Also, it's basic common sense that the non-essentials need to be cut first. Why cut from expanded public works or property construction before cutting some of the many perks that ministers receive in addition to their very generous salaries?
I'll be first in line to criticise the DA on MANY issues, but this isn’t one of them.
No new cars and blue lights and crazy security either
This is a good move, well done to the DA for being bold enough.

They earn more than enough to fix their own mansions buy own funiture if not satisfied with furniture they get and pay for their own helpers/cleaners/gardeners. Like we as ordinary citizens do. Limit amount spent on vehicles.
On a serious note, we have more than 30mill people grinding in poverty in the country. If we can put all the public works program and Property construction projects budget into building low cost housing near the economic hubs and revitalize all the hijacked buildings, we can move the economy
How can they get salaries that they did not study for? If a minister becomes a minister with criminal record, no education than its fair to take away job applications that says matric and no criminal record.
