      I have a white husky and a gray husky. My white husky had puppies and all of them came out pure white, while only one puppy came out gray like her dad. So uh, not at ALL weird 😂

    • @mieshii23
      @mieshii23 Před 3 lety +18

      Our husky is a chocolate red but when our pyrenees/American eskimo mix had his puppies none of them came out looking like him. We got 5 black, 3 reddish gray that turn copper in the sun, and one white wolf looking one. So from my perspective it's still weird.

    Wolf quest was my favorite growing up. Not just cause it had canines, but I was also really fascinated by the lessons of the music. I swear this was the first time I really questioned who I was and I was 8. All because a mouse said “you know what you are but not who you are” and the songs “who are you” and “grand design”. It really provoked my 8 year old brain and pushed me towards self discovery. I’ll admit the movie is a product of its time and moves super fast, but it still holds a real special place in my heart for inspiring me to discover myself.

      Y'know I think my grandma made that exact same argument when I forced her to watch it with me when I was like 10 I think. But even with that the points brought up in this video sort of make that easier to look past. If there is a part of you or your heritage that you don't like no matter how small that problem or how diluted the blood, there is the knowledge that that part of you is still there. Especially in a small town like Nome where the heritage of sled dogs and dogs in general seems to be a big thing, a dog that was a half breed and undisputedly looked like one would be lesser or unreliable as is brought up in the first movie. Thank you for listening to my Ted talk.

    OH.MY.GOD. the first sequel is a 1:1 reflection of many half blooded native American descended people in the Americas. And especially for me and my family but spanning from my great-grandmother to me and my mother. Down to the exact words balto says about our heritage being something to be ashamed of and to improve ourselves by rejecting part of who we are and to what roughly translates to "improving the race" "enmejorrando la Raza" by having more children with white people until our indigenous blood is diluted into extinction. Oh the irony in the fact that I and my mother reject and oppose the redirect of my great-grandmother and grandfather.

      it kinda did with me. I'm mexican, and we are a diverse group of people in terms of looks. my little sister always had pale skin and eurocentric features. I look more mexican, tanner skin and features of my native people. she always got mistaken as some flavor of white, mixed with something, but still white. I was always a bit jealous and angry that she got to be pretty and look white and I wasn't. I realized it was internalized racism in highschool and I learned I had my own beauty in my own way. I still get a little uncomfortable when my sister says the b slur since she looks more white but whenever I bring it up she goes "bUt iM mExiCaN" like, okay, whatever 😭

    I absolutely *adored* Balto and Balto 2 when I was a kid. Even though I haven’t had very many issues with people regarding my heritage and being part Athabaskan, there was something so relatable about Aleu’s fears about not knowing where she belongs, not knowing anything about her heritage, and wondering where she fits in society. Also it was pretty much the only animated talking dog movie set in my home country too, and I still miss Alaska a lot 😞

    Honestly the main reason I didn’t watch the “Balto” sequel as a kid was because it reminded me of “The Little Mermaid” sequel, with the plot focus on the protagonist of the first film hiding their heritage from their child which led to the central conflict. Plus, I had gotten tired of direct-to-video sequel films, and was honestly watching more anime at the time. 😋

    • @magnysvoss
      @magnysvoss Před 3 lety +6

      Well Aleu deciding to live with wolves shouldn’t be considered lesser than living with the humans in the first place. She might have thought she wanted to live with the humans and dogs because that’s all she saw her siblings do. But she also wasn’t actively trying to change herself to fit into that world. Her main desire was to be accepted for who she was in a supportive community. So in the end I think that’s what she got. Both lives would be difficult to live in but in one she’d at least find support and love to be her true self.

    Balto and Aleu's relationship is something I can understand, he simply doesn't want her to go through the pain he did. He's 6-7 in this movie and wishes Aleu to have the love that he never got at her age. And yet I wish we could have seen much more of them because we pretty much see them throughout most of the film arguing or having disagreements like a dad and teenage girl would. Sure its cute at first how he calls her his "baby" but the movie doesn't treat that as a good thing either, Boris literally says to Balto after he called her a "good pup" that she's not a pup and therefor shouldn't be coddled like one. This bites him in the butt quickly when the hunter decides to take aim at her which leads me to believe he was probably so caught up in his own little world that his "baby" is such a perfect angel and will never be allowed to grow up or leave he didn't feel the need to at least warn her about hunters and guns. whoops. I do wish Aleu apologized for calling Balto hopeless and yelling that she 'hated' him but her final words to him before departing at the end of the movie; I like to think that was her own way of saying that things were good between the two.

    Me i think this whole movie centered around Aleu and Balto.s relationship given he's trying to help her accept who she actually is which we eventually find out in the end of this

    My favorite Balto Movie growing up was the third one because I loved the piolet and Balto bonding, thought it was cute, but the first one is always going to be the best one obviously and now I would say the first one is my favorite.

    I had to pause the video in the beginning bc my brain was flipping out over the idea that Emperors New Groove came out early enough to be on vhs. Like, my family had all but stopped getting vhs versions of movies by then, so I never realized that vhs tapes were still being made. My brain can't handle this combo rn lol

    Quando você falou do primeiro filme, eu consegui lembrar dos personagens e não da história. Na minha mente da história era diferente, e agora sei pq.
    Nasci em 2005 e tinha um DVD desse exato filme, não do primeiro mas sim do segundo e por isso não lembrava nada do primeiro ksksks
    Foi bom relembrar dele.
    P.S: Lembra das aventuras de jack chan? Acha que poderia fazer um vídeo sobre? Foi um dos desenhos que mais marcou minha infância, lembro vividamente de ver eles na TV Globinho durante a escola. Gostaria de ouvir você falar sobre

    I remember watching the third movie almost 10 years later after the first one. And I was obsessed with Balto when I was younger, so I really wanted to like it, but boy did I not enjoy that third one. Interesting concept, really not pushed too well though. Do remember watching the sequel on CN. Was okay with it, but I always struggled to remember the ending too well, and I now see why lol. Great video!

    When I first heard about balto 2 I thought "ah shit, another generic direct to video sequel" when I watched it I was kinda wrong. Sure it is riddled with flaws, it was kinda nice.
    Overall rating: 6/10
    I have yet to watch the 3rd film

    3:23 (Pushes up need glasses) biologically, Alex is 1/4 Wolf (as Jenna is pure Husky & Balto is half Wolf) so the fact that it’s her dominant genetic trait is unusual.

    Idk why but I only watched the first and third movie🤣🤣 The first one because they had movies for rent in the public liabrary (including the first Balto movie) and the third one... because it played on TV on the E-TV Movies channel (South African channel btw) And... that female goose made me very uncomfortable even when I was a kid😳
