ANA The Room - Lots of Drama & The Biggest Airline Seat in Business Class

  • The drama continues: Today we are flying for 13 hours on one of the most exclusive airline seats ever: ANA The Room, with the largest business class seat in the world. But is size everything?
Our trip starts with a tornado warning in Chicago: First I see my Boeing take off without me, there's re-booking dramas, offers and rejections - and even after the flight, I end up with my expensive ticket on a bench in a waiting hall in the Far East. In between lie 10,000 km, sushi, sake, the date line and hours of sunset above Alaska. Directly after my flight with Lufthansa Allegris, now the highs and lows of ANA The Room -
part of a world trip booked completely by accident.
Before the flight, I went to the United Airlines Polaris Lounge in Chicago, which is reserved for Star Alliance business class guests on international long-haul flights - and with 8 hours between the missed flight and the delayed replacement I had plenty of time. - But what a difference to regular business lounges in the US: There's very nice, spacious showers with all amenities including deodorant, a seperate relaxation area with daybeds, blankets and pillows, a decent buffet, an a-la-carte restaurant and a very well-stocked bar with countless free drinks and decent champagne.
Instead of Narita, I got booked onto the other ANA flight that goes to Tokyo's city airport Haneda.
With Haneda instead of Narita being the new destination airport, my onward flight to Hong Kong also had to be rebooked of course - and that was not available again until the next morning there. And as a result, I also lost the flight with Cathay to Phuket by half an hour - and there too it meant yet another night in Hong Kong. The whole domino effect.

Level8 asked if I'd like to try some of their bags - and what I got was two beautiful pieces of luggage: The Level8 Voyageur 28" is my ckecked luggage in this report and the Gibraltar aluminum trolley is my carry-on luggage. Both are great but I really LOVE the aluminum trolley, which has an incredibly high quality, while the Voyageur has a really practical design.

Your review was awesome. Very thorough. This is probably the longest ANA “The room” video I’ve seen.
The cost for me: round trip from NYC to Bali with a connection from Bali to Singapore via KLM was $8200.

I've been to Japan several times for business and my brother lives there. I have a policy of only eating local food, but on one visit which was three weeks I collapsed on only eating Japanese. After 2 weeks I was craving a Western steak and Western food in general. There's this overall taste which seems to be in almost everything, and it gets to you after a while. 😃😂

Seems really great and comfy. Must be hard to sit on the usual seats afterwards.

Therefore I find it always very important to fly very basic airlines in Economy or lowcost in between those experiences... Very important to stay grateful also for that

Quite an adventure. As always very entertaining presentation and I love your music selections. Seat and food looked great. As a wine lover I wouldn't like the not-so-good wines. Very odd you were not allowed to move from T2 to T3 at Haneda - can't really think why that would be the case.

      Hi Dave! (is that correct?)
Yes, Japan is among the countries where rules are everything.
When we arrived delayed, there were about 40 people all needing to get to the same connecting plane to Singapore, all running like crazy, and then ending up at the same bus-transfer gate, with about 5 buses with drivers in front who do the transfer. But the rule said that the bus goes only at every half hour. So everybody waited there, and the gate for the plane probably closed without them. That was quite an atmosphere.... The Westerners (and Singaporeans) screaming in a bunch, the Japanese standing calm in a row.
Thank you for the feedback - I cannot say how much I appreciate it! Please spread the word on social media or share with friends. 🤗
      Chris

@@TravelSingFlyEnglishEdition Yes, Dave. Danke schoen. I've been to Japan - wonderful country but as you say they are very keen on sticking to rules. No traIns or taxis from T2 to T3 at that time?

I am booked for ANA’s “The Room” on my upcoming trip to Bali. It’s a 13 hour flight from NYC to Haneda. Then we fly to Jakarta. Finally, Bali.
Later I’ll be on KLM Business Class from Bali to Singapore.

hi Chris! i'm super excited to watch this - thank you. before i do though, i've been pondering why you don't have exponentially more views and subscribers, because it makes no sense to me that more people aren't enjoying your fabulous videos, and i think i may have landed on a theory. i'm a native English speaker who speaks only one other language, love knowing a few words here or there in many others, and to many other native English speakers that seems like a lot, which is an abysmal state of affairs, but we're honestly so lazy with language. so, i'm wondering if having the title of your channel say "English edition", may actually be doing you a disservice. when i first saw that i did think automatically 'aaagh there'll be subtitles', and presumed that you wouldn't be speaking English in the video. i suspect a lot of other people may make that mistake too, because that's the natural bias, language wise for us. i think that dropping the 'English edition' title might help with the clicks and the algorithms of it all. anyway, that's my unsolicited advice! 😆sorry! genuinely trying to help 🌻kindest regards, Katie

Wow, Katie! That was a very useful comment and feedback. Thank you first of all for the great praise!
But thank you tons for that other feedback. You could have quote a bit point there. I'll play around with it in my head now. The reason is called like that is that the original TravelSingFly channel is in German. Used to be bilingual, then I split it into 2 channels, leaving the German one with its original title. But maybe I should call it the German Edition, and this English one just TravelSingFly. Thank you very much! Happy that do enjoy my content so much!

@@TravelSingFlyEnglishEdition my pleasure, Chris, and thank you for being so lovely about my feedback. it's obvious to me from watching your videos what the evolution was, but we all skip over or judge things so quickly these days that it may ask too much of our tiny attention spans. i think switching things around to call the original channel the German one is a great idea! in any event it's food for thought and i hope it's helpful. have a beautiful day!

Dear Carol, thank you for the feedback. I'll look into it. Please know that I take lots of time to curate the music for every new video and it takes pretty long until I decide the volume and the music selection. In many cases it's commenting a current scene. Sometimes it's therefore intended to be what you call screechy - sometimes it's intended to be soothing or it's just music from the region of an airline. I hippie you'll have a great time watching all the content on this channel.
      Chris
