  • Watch as former Sunderland Manager Peter Reid reflects on his time spent on Wearside.
Reid’s transformation of Sunderland saw the Black Cats toying with the European places in their first season back in the top flight, but the most unforgettable part of his stewardship was the partnership formed by Kevin Phillips and Niall Quinn.

I'm 30 and I grew up thinking I supported the best and biggest team in the world. Because of this man and the players he brought in.

Best manager we ever had in my lifetime anyways, what he achieved at Sunderland with very little money was nothing short of a football miracle

I was a season ticket holder at the time and was at the 4-1 Chelsea game. There were grown men crying during that game, they'd never seen anything like it. Incredible day.

The best of the best in my lifetime. The only time this lads fan expected a result every single week regardless. All good things come to an end but Reidy woke this club up like no one else in my near 50 years. Love the bloke.

Sunderland really need Reidy or someone like him to get us back to the big time. Sooner we can get out if third flight the better. Will be lucky to make the play-offs this season. The idea a Sunderland manager could serve a 7 year tenure these days seems ridiculous. And yet, 1995-2002 (and especially 1999-2001) were such great times!

I’m a Leeds fan and he was unfairly sacked after a bad start to the season in which we got regulated, that’s what happens when a club is in dire straights
    Great manager
