- I tried out "Poom" a Doom game for the Pico-8. Then I played DOOM Project Brutality 3.0 mod, using the Mutiny map pack.

Kind of looks like if Doom was on the Commodore 64. I like the pixel bit style and 8 bit sound track.

Really blown away by all the mods for Doom. Personally never kept up but when I was younger I used to make a lot of custom maps and stuff. Project Brutality is amazing, imagine if Doom had come out like that back in the day... would be the gold standard for fps.

My favorite version of DOOM is:
PSX DOOM CE 3.4.0 (Ful Version)
You can grab it from moddb and just extract it and throw a copy of the official doom2 wad in the folder (requirement) and run gzdoom (included) and then select PSX DOOM CE from the gzdoom launcher.

When this showed up on the YT Algorithims, I told myself, I'm only watching Doom if Mike Matei is the one playing it.
At 32:00, I know what you mean. I find there is some 💩 that you just want to get over with, and some 💩 that you just have to see through.
I'm only about 36 minutes in, but one observation is that in regular DOOM, the chaingun kind of stunlocks most enemies while you shoot them. This pico version doesn't do that at all. One thing I do really like is the look of the caco's. They look way more sinister and creepy than the big red meatballs from real DOOM.
I need to play this. I bought a license for the pico engine. It looks ridiculously good.
Let me say two quick things I've been a fan of you since back in the good old days back when you did the AVGN videos with James which were great by the way I know you guys decided to do your own thing and go your separate ways hopefully you guys still do talk and are in good terms I would love to see you guys use collab again together or maybe even even a good old James and Mike's Monday like he has used to do I'm sure I'm not the only one that's been wondering what's been going behind the scenes with you guys I'm sure I'm not the only one that hurt a lot of rumors so the collaboration wouldn't be possible I wouldn't mind hearing it straight from your mouth a little bit of the backstory with whats the current status. If you don't got time or can't do it completely understand just a request from an old-time fan of yours LOL either way man love the videos keep it real dude

In the second game, Doom Mutiny I think, the player character face at the bottom of the screen looks like Dr. Proton from Duke Nukem and Duke Nukem II.
I mentioned this to you before Mike but I used to make all kinds of Doom mods with my buddy back in the later 90s. We used to work in sprites at home and exchange our work at school. I really wish I still had those 3.5 floppies still

This game has 3 tipes of diferent controls, clasic, with mouse and strife if I remember correctly.

If I'm honest, I think the monsters here are actually creepier than in the original version. The 8 bit faces really mess with me. Especially the pico8 Cacodemon. They look SO GOOD.

Hey Mike, you should try Phoenix Doom which someone wrote a 3DO total conversion of doom which is the exact Doom for 3DO but plays at full speed like PC doom. The music is great and you can play it with a controller. All you need is Phoenix Doom and the 3DO ISO in the same folder. I think you'll like it, its obscure

Have you ever beaten Doom 64? Specifically the remaster on modern consoles, it's so much better! I played it on Switch and it's now my favorite retro Doom game. I heard of a mod for gzdoom called Doom 64 Retribution which is also a great way to play Doom 64.

Man, I thought the Pico-8 was just from Celeste where you can unlock a secret 8-bit version of the Celeste game. I had no idea it has it's own "fake" games, I gotta look into it, that's such a cool concept.
And if you haven't played Celeste, talk about a must play game, do it now.

I have to disable like 2/3 of it's features to make it playable and IMO it's still really annoying . Nice weapon gfx, though.
I also disable a ton of things before I start playing it.
