Good one Andy,had the same problem on the ebike,just unhook the BMS and put the battery bike back on charge for 30 mins disconnected the charger and repluged the BMS waited until the cells rebalanced for 1 hr and then un repluged the BMS ,then repluged the BMS ,put the battery back on slow charge ,waited until it cut off.Left the pack for 2 hrs to rebalance then gave it a small top up,54.8v...as I use two batteries in parallel each one has its own volt meter,thus avoiding burning down the garage,nice little video..😃👍

I just picked up an EB240 W/ 2 SP120 panels for $524. After deducting the sale price of $140 each for the panels the EB240 was $244. Best deal on a lifepo 2400wh unit anywhere.
This is a "simple" trick? Holy shit.
You can also rescue it by charging the individual cells which are too discharged...One cell at a time. Then it will charge up again as normal...
I have a EGO Power 56V snow blower and I had an issue that putting the batteries on the charger and then trying to use them would make them immediately drop from 5/5 bars to 2 or 3 out of 5 bars (even without snow in the chute).
I threw them on my desktop power supply at 58.8V and surprisingly a "fully charged" battery took 3 amps of constant current for a while and then even then it took forever to settle out below 100mA trickle charging. After that they behave far far better.
My guess is the supplied charger doesn't trickle charge them long enough to top balance. So now I always do a top balance charge and they've been performing great all winter (here in Ottawa Canada).
I've had other yard batteries die similarly and I suspect it's for very similar reasons.
Consumer supplied chargers need to really up their game.

You are correct about the batteries being lithium ion and the nominal voltage of 3.7v per cell (14.8v total). The reason it stopped working is because one of the cells dropped below 3.0v. When this happens, the BMS will become disabled and the entire unit will no longer function or charge. The only way to recover normal function at this point is by disconnecting the BMS and charging the overly depleted cell(s) directly until the voltage is above 3.0v on all cells, which is essentially what you did. Another thing to know is that lithium ion batteries should not (or sometimes cannot) be charged in temperatures below 32°F (0°C). They will also suffer diminished capacity/output below this point, which may have been part of the reason one of the cells fell below 3v.

Weird you had an E007 error which is normally 'Under-temperature protection when charging the battery' was it really cold? or was that just a by product of the low voltage? as the E008 is under voltage protection. Am only on 4 minutes of the video so i'll apologise if you cover this in the final 6 minutes :) finished and i think you guessed right at the end with low temps! i've got the EB240 so interesting to watch and share experiences!
My EB150 after 1 minute of the AC button being pressed comes up with the error code E013. This is with our without something plugged into the outlet sockets. Do you think pulling the BMS plug out and replacing may fix this too??? Such a shame as the unit has been so good up until now. It is stored at 21oC so not hot or cold and has 4 bars charge left in it. DC works fine and it will charge from the mains.

Hi Andy, love your videos. They are inspiring!!May ask your advice, please. I’v e a 36v 10Ah and 48v 10Ah battery on a 350v front hub motor set up with a Dx2 battery blender to run both. But ‘would like’ to run on the 36v and have a boost button to engage to 48v when I need it for a bit of extra acceleration when required. Can you suggest a waterproof handlebar mounting 48v 20A switch or switch relay configuration to enable this, please? Any thoughts or steer gratefully received. Best Wishes. Raymond
Hi, Glad you like the videos! You'd probably want to use contactors instead of realys to run the main power through due to the arcing when you connect a battery to a controller. It could probably be done but not sure how practical it would be... 😊

I’ve got a 50A switch in a 😢paneer bag at the back next to the battery to turn the unit on and off. If I had a suitable waterproof handlebar mounted switch I would go for this option. Hi Andy, I’ve just ‘Hooked’ with TX60’s a 24-72v DC, 40A wireless on/off switch on handlebar from the 48v ‘booster’ battery , through a power meter ( to measure watts and amp draw) to the controller. I now run on 36v and hit the button which switches on the 48v ( connected via a DX2) when I need the extra toque up the hill I live on, just ‘need 😂’ to overtake the rider in front on the commute. Really appreciated your comments. Raymond

It's why bike batteries conk out...Cell imbalance....China uses faulty BMS logic in these charger/balancers. It boosts battery sales though eh?...
I just yesterday blew my 36v ebike charger by hooking up the wires backwards to the battery.
Those batteries are lithium ion pouch cells

So maybe you just have a charge controller and not a BMS.
Also of these things are li-ion as they are cheaper cells :)
Most BMS balance top of charge. It's defo a BMS as it switches the negative when things go wonky. It's a strange scenario though. It was a while since it had a proper charge so self discharge could have played a part here.

@@andykirby you can have a BMS without balance, I'd check see if it has as there will be resistors and opamps if it does balance.
Cold will have some effect, but there are two types of balance a discharge, which does nothing or one that will discharge a high battery to a low one.
The cold, would have something to do with it and low solar power going in. But it could be a bad cells. You'll have to cycle it a few times and see .
