- The Spanish Emergency Military Unit (UME), English version. Created in 2005, UME is a high qualified and prepared force for emergencies response. Since its creation this unit have been working hand by hand with both civil and military organizations on major disaster such as flood, earthquakes, rescues, fires and such. UME gives means and operative response providing 3 C (Coordination, Command and Control) on the field both in national and international soil supporting local emergency assets.

Let's pay huge respect to the UME for fighting Covid19 right now in Spain.
The UME was strongly criticized when it was created in 2005 as an useless unit carrying a heavy cost to maintain.
It has proven to be essential year after year, and crucial to the fight against Covid19 being present and effective where nobody had even a clue on how to react as fast as possible.

Interesting and original concept. I just became aware of the UME, watching International TV News organizations showing various countries, efforts to deal with the Covid-19 virus outbreak. March 17, 2020.
Exactly, they are like firefighters but with access to the military logistics which a simple firemen station can't access..so that is the most interesting thing, military aircrafts, ambulances etc... However, they only get activated when normal firemen can't handle a situation. But with the coronavirus they have been super usefull but unfortunately not enough 3500 militaries are not too much for a country like Spain, the number should be much higher..two or three times more at least.... they finally have used all military units to help with the medical crisis.

Eduardo Mari Pues tienen bastante proyección internacional. No todos los ejércitos cuentan con una unidad como la UME y esta unidad está preparando a otros ejércitos para este tipo de tareas.
Pues resulta que la UME es actualmente ejemplo mundial de unidad militar de emergencia y es influencia para nuevas unidades de este tipo a nivel mundial.
