  • Gaël Chételat, PhD, HDR, Inserm, Université de Caen-Normandie, Caen, France, discusses her talk about tau topography and propagation. She explains that understanding the propagation of tau is crucial in preventing and delaying Alzheimer's disease (AD), as it is the primary driver of neurodegeneration. Recent advancements in neuroimaging and mathematical modeling have provided insights into predictors of pathology progression, highlighting the role of functional connectivity and specific connectivity in tau propagation. Dr Chételat and her team are looking into the specific contributions of key mechanisms to predict the topography and propagation of tau, as well as amyloid deposition, atrophy, and hypometabolism. They have developed a comprehensive model integrating specific connectivity, global connectivity, and diffusion mode, aiming to identify their relative impacts. This interview took place at the AD/PD™ 2024 congress in Lisbon, Portugal.
