Mysuru palace, Ambavilas Palace (Kannada: ಅಂಬಾ ವಿಲಾಸ್ ಅರಮನೆ), otherwise known as the Mysore Palace (Kannada: ಮೈಸೂರು ಅರಮನೆ), is a historical palace and a royal residence at Mysore in the Indian State of Karnataka. It is the official residence of the Wadiyar dynasty and the seat of the Kingdom of Mysore. The palace is in the centre of Mysore, and faces the Chamundi Hills eastward. Mysore is commonly described as the 'City of Palaces', and there are seven palaces including this one; however, 'Mysore Palace' refers specifically to this one within the Old Fort. Yaduraya built the first palace inside the Old Fort in the 14th century, which was demolished and constructed multiple times. The current structure was constructed between 1897 and 1912, after the Old Palace was burnt ablaze. The last palace, now known as the Old Palace or the Wooden Palace, was burnt into ashes during the 1896 Dasara festivities. Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV and his mother Maharani Kempananjammanni Devi, commissioned the British architect Lord Henry Irwin to build a new palace.The architectural style of domes of the palace is commonly described as Indo-Saracenic, with blends of the Hindu, Mughal, Rajput, and Gothic styles.The palace houses two durbar halls (ceremonial meeting halls of the royal court) and incorporates an array of courtyards, gardens, and buildings.
Mysore Palace is probably India’s only illuminated royal structure and is a major tourist attraction, especially during Dasara where millions of tourists come from far and wide to see the lit up Palace.
The red light atop Mysore Palace in the central dome is used to synchronise the timing of lights from all the four stations simultaneously.
This red light, earlier, was an indicator of the presence of Maharajas inside the Palace. 15 minutes before illumination, the red light is switched on and switched off after 13 minutes. This is an alert to all station workers. Two minutes later when the red light is switched on again, the Palace is illuminated.

I recently visited Palace, without guide for me it's a just a colourfull picture and royal place. As said by foreigners "We know india better than Indian" True, we should hire a guide for understanding better about our places.

Excellent presentation. Everything is absolutely correct. I was very much blessed to stay in Mysuru for about 7 years and worked as a faculty in Postal Training Centre. The Training Centre is housed in one of the palatial monuments called Karanji Mansion. But I did not get full details of that building except a small paragraph.

This museum is about the Department which I know. But I wanted to know the complete details about building. It was told that Royal family weddings were being in this building and the building was gifted to one of the sisters of Maharaja. Those details are actually I needed.
