Thank you! Although we have different fobs and I still haven’t programmed mine yet, you are the only one to accurately describe WHERE the ecu was! I was 7 videos in already so THANK YOU for perfectly describing how to get that little beast! You’re the best!

I have a 1998 Toyota Camry LE USA edition I did not want to remove dash but you gave me some confidence that I could do this, with the key in the on position II used a credit card to take out the small panel with the security light, pulled down the ecu box about 1/2in and pressed the green button (that was on the front side of the box) and the security light on the panel lit I pressed the top button on the fob and I have working remote !!!😹

    1998 toyota camry le:
First, DO NOT remove the knee guard under the steering wheel. Remove the mirror control panel to the left of the steering wheel, it pops off. Strapped to the underside of the dash directly above the hole is the ecu. It's a black square. Its strapped in place with a black zip tie. You should see it holding a white wire in place along with it. Cut the tie and the ecu drops down to expose the buttont.

Thank-you, i used a screw driver to remove the small panel and needed a flashlight to see on the topside above the wiring the box with the green button. You won't see the green button until you locate the black zip tie and remove it. I cut the black zip tie and I used a thin small screwdriver to push the green button, when the red security light turns on you have to quickly then push the key fob for 3 seconds and in spite of 3 tries and setting off the security alarm twice ( horn honking) I finally got the key fob to work!!!

      @BoxySonic Před 7 měsíci

I have a 1999 Camry LE and many instructions pointed out that was where it was at, directly to the right of the vent output
There is no space above or to the right of that hole, the vent output is an inch above that hole, the right of the hole is a steel barrier for the steering assembly, and to the right of the vent is the instrument cluster, with mabye a quarter inch of gap, no room for anything to be there and if it is in that area, theres no possible way of getting even close enough to look in there without removing the knee guard and possibly the instrument cluster as well
The car's instructions list several different "possible" placements depending on the wiring setup, which is vastly different from car to car depending on what you got with the car
Every possible placement listed in the online manual:
      Behind the power mirror controls
Bolted to firewall to the right of steering assembly
Bolted to the left finder frame wall near the corner to the firewall
Behind left kick panel on driver side
Behind right kick panel on passenger side
Bolted to firewall behind instrument cluster
      To the right of glovebox
      Above glovebox
      Behind glovebox
      Underside of driver seat
      Underside of passenger seat
Between rear left seat and door jamb
Between removable trunk entry panel and front end of trunk compartment
Underside of rear speaker mounting plate on the roof of the trunk
On top of the rear speaker mounting plate, underneath the trim panel where the rear window brake light is

I have a 1998 Camry LE. I had high hopes after finding your video, but still cannot locate this damn box. A google search will tell you to look in the following locations. Under driver’s seat. Under passenger’s seat. Behind glove box. Behind ash tray. And yes, the area you found yours. I’ve looked all of those places and more. Laid on the floor of the car looking up underneath dashboard. Nada. Zip. Nothing. It’s gotta be there…but where?!

From what I remember with the old alarm that came with the car, the other button was for an alarm on the car to go off in an emergency.
