    Smashing video John the vice came out beautifully that obsidian black really pops on it, suits it really well 😁👍 keep up the incredible work chap, learn a lot from you and scout crafter 😀

    Thank you for such great content. I see videos in my feed constantly with tools and restorations that I think would be fascinating... Unfortunately, most of them, with some exceptions like you, ScoutCrafter, and 357MagDad, don't explain things as they go along. Your commentary really makes the difference and makes your content great. I feel like we are hanging out in the shop working on projects together.
    I'm very happy that I found your channel and I'm working my way through all of your videos now!

    Nice little vise and quite the impressive collection there. I've acquired two littlestown vises right here in the Netherlands. Haven't messed with them yet.

    • @johnfix1
      @johnfix1  Před 2 lety

      They are nice looking vises but made more for inexpensive mass production rather than quality.

    That pull knob for rotating the base is pretty cool! I wonder if that was what the patent was awarded for?

    • @johnfix1
      @johnfix1  Před 2 lety

      Shame on me for not checking on the patent. It was actually one that was for in an improvement in the construction to facilitate manufacturing and assembly to provide greater strength and lots more engineering that is above my pay grade. Anyway thanks for the nudge.

    John, very impressive vise collection. A colorful display. Do you always keep them out the way you showed it? I have a few but they take up so much space , I have to put them where you can’t see them well.

    • @johnfix1
      @johnfix1  Před 2 lety

      Thank you Tony. I mainly keep out the three I use. I have a very small shop and keep most of my stored.

    I have an old, unrestored, Stanley vice that is very similar to this black one. The top is maroon. Identical base except mine says "PatPending". Same knob for rotation. I have it mounted on my office workbench.

      @johnfix1  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thank you for the Stanley info.

      @@johnfix1 You are inspiring me to restore mine. I use it pretty often. It came from my wife's grandfather's farm (orchard) in Chester NH. I am thinking green.

      @@johnfix1 I have a question. Mine had a very thin oval piece of sheet metal that has three holes that the center screw and two alignment pins go through. It is a bit bent up and is on the side of the vice with the crank. Does not seem to do much. What is it for?

    • @johnfix1
      @johnfix1  Před 4 měsíci

      @@sqqqrly I have seen a piece like you describe on standard vises. I believe it a large decorative plate that functions as a washer.
