100 Obscure PC Games of the 1990s (Part 7: 1996) ... in 10 Minutes!

TURN ON SUBTITLES TO SEE THE GAME TITLES
A look at 100 obscure PC games that were released in 1996!
A noticeable increase in overall quality of software productions. Games were becoming less janky and more polished. There was still a glut of multimedia-focused "point and click" adventures - but FPSs were definitely a solid part of the landscape. The Koreans, meanwhile, were still able to turn out some first class arcade-style experiences! Also, a large wave of 1 vs 1 fighting games started to make themselves known...
Interesting to note that there was a lot of cross-pollination with the newly launched PlayStation (1). A few of the titles were ported from/to the early PS1 library.
In this video, keep an eye out for early productions by Criterion Software (who would go onto create the Burnout series), and a long forgotten Bullfrog game...

Fire Fight is one absolutely fantastic game. Never understood why it has not been considered part of the gaming canon - got fantastic reviews in the day and I think it did not sell badly.

There have actually been *several* Monty Python games!
In addition to the Quest for the Holy Grail (shown in this video), there was also an "action" game for the 8-bit micros back in the early 90s (I believe there's footage of it in one of the earlier videos in this series). And there's also a game based on "The Meaning of Life". And of course, the Desktop Pythonizer "app" which was one of the first CD-ROMs I ever bought.
Aside from the "action" game - the Python games are actually are pretty amusing for fans. Apparently Eric Idle was involved in their creation, and it shows.
