    If you get back to the gas engine, I recommend watching makerj101, he built a 2 stroke combustion engine without a machine shop from scratch. You made the first air engine I’ve seen that was air tight besides Tom Stanton’s diaphragm engine, which isn’t the same as a real one.

    If I had to guess, the engine having to compress any air that is in the cylinders when the piston is travelling up is significantly restricting the maximum rpm of your engine. This is especially true since the engine's compression is so good. Having lower compression while giving it less torque may allow it to achieve a higher rpm. I would recommend adding an exhaust valve and trying again. It shouldn't be as hard to get an exhaust valve to seal, as there is no air behind the valve, and any air entering the cylinder will just be putting pressure on the valve seating it even further into its position.

  • @joeterpstra125
    @joeterpstra125 Před 11 měsíci +2

    I’m sorry to say but the model a engine you showed is a flathead, meaning it has no pushrods, it works by having the valves in the block parallel to the cylinders with the valves riding directly on the lifters, eliminating the need for rocker arms and pushrods, this also means the head is mostly just sealing off the combustion chamber, hence the name flathead. Great video as always, keep it coming👍

  • @Del350K4
    @Del350K4 Před 10 měsíci +1

    I was kinda hoping that you might choose to experiment with this engine to determine how much work it can do.
    I believe that the industry-standard CZcams test for a 3D printed compressed air engine is to ask it to lift a banana from the ground to desk height. This test can be traced back through CZcams history, via Integza, to the CZcams air engine pioneer Tom Stanton.

  • @victorkrivor2174
    @victorkrivor2174 Před rokem +2

    Just from hearing the engine it looks like you either need higher valve lift, or a taller cam lift. less lift means it can run at lower pressures, with the tradeoff of low rpm, and a high lift/duration camshaft providing higher rpm with higher pressure

    • @CamdenBowen
      @CamdenBowen  Před rokem +1

      Thank you! I used a Dremel and a cutting wheel to cut the rough shape, then used a small hand file to shape it correctly and then sandpaper to deburr the inside of the bore after. As for the O ring tolerances, it really doesn't matter that much as long as you use oil/grease. If its within a certain ballpark where it is still making a good seal but not hugely oversized, it should work fine with minimal friction

    Using ICE 1:2 camshaft ratio in air engine is nonsense. Use 1:1 - making work per each revolution. And please, use flathead design - valves should be opened in the opposite to the air pressure direction for not to be opened with air pressure.

      It was an option, but it requires plenty of setup to make possible. It would be easier to try and opt for an existing fuel source instead of try to create apparatus to produce it
