Using the Trains in Italy From Rome to Florence to Venice (TRENITALIA)

  • This video shows how to use the trains in Italy to get to Rome, Florence, or Venice or any other city on the rail line. The trains are fast, and they take you to the heart of each city. You can buy tickets ahead of time using the www.trenitalia.com website, or www.italiarail.com. Or you can buy your tickets at the train station from a ticket office, or using the ticket machines. In Venice you will see Porters outside of the train station and they will take your luggage for you to your hotel. Make sure to negotiate the price with the porters, their first price quote is not their last. You can also take a water taxi, but then you will need to carry your own luggage. I hope this video helps! Enjoy Italy!

Thanks The Gaming Counselor....Italy is VERY tourist friendly, but watch your belongings like a hawk. There are pickpockets and thieves that look for vulnerable tourists, don't leave your belongings unattended. I know someone who left the trunk of their car open for just a few minutes unattended (this was in Rome) and came back to find all their suitcases gone! That said...Have a super fantastic time!

Be wary of pickpocketers and other unsavory characters that take advantage of tourists, but overall the atmosphere felt very safe. Enjoy, Enjoy! Safe travels.

Wifi is available also in second/standard class of the Trenitalia's high speed trains (frecciarossa and frecciargento).
In the video you show some self service machines at the venice station which are owned by Italo (Trenitalia is owned by the italian government while Italo is another private high speed trains operator) so they don't let you buy Trenitalia tickets. If you buy tickets in advance you can save up to 60-70%.

Thank you. It’s so true. From Chitavecchia to Rome we had to sit on our suitcases in the luggage area because we were afraid of theft. If you want to keep your luggage WITH you, as opposed to the luggage area, BOOK FIRST CLASS! Cost is not much more and it is much less crowded! Note: coming out of the train station in Venice is one of life’s greatest memories!

@@icyndaquilhd7953 You believe we were over cautious? You may be right. But it’s not comforting to leave your luggage and have to go sit far away, where anyone could grab it and exit quickly without your being able to stop them. I would actually have done the same in any country. Definitely in the USA. Feels so much better to have your luggage with you or within eyesight. I don’t think theft is non-existent in Italy. Or anywhere. Since there are pickpockets in Italy, why wouldn’t they walk off with luggage as well?

My big concern regarding the trains is luggage space, and am considering buying business class just so hopefully there is enough luggage space (I'll only have a large suitcase but one never knows if the luggage space is taken up by others' luggage). @TravelwithTikkiO  Před 4 lety

There was an area for suitcases near the doors, but we had trouble with our suitcases because we were traveling with extended family and had MANY suitcases (there were 9 of us), so there was no extra room. I had to put them near the exit doors and stand guard over them when we came to a stop so they wouldn't fall out or be taken when the doors opened. There is also space in the middle of each car where some of the forward facing seats meet some backward facing ones, there was an area to put suitcases....but its very limited and we did obstruct peoples ability to move around....but I have to say that people were very polite and good natured about it, they tolerate tourists very well in Italy! Learn to say "Mi dispiace" (I'm sorry) and "Scusa" and of course please and thank you helps too. Enjoy your trip, you will have a wonderful experience!

Both companies wont sell tickets for each other so you will have to check both to get the best price. I have used trenitalia before but this time when I go there next month I will be using italo which was a lot cheaper than trenitalia i guess it based on when you want to travel so check both websites before you book.

@@TravelwithTikkiO thank you for your reply I already figured out that I was looking at the wrong trains. I do have another question. Once I print them online do I have to validate them? or exchange them for an actual ticket? or just show the
      print-out to the conductor?
      Thanks for your help.

You do have to validate the ticket, there are machines to do that on the platform. If you are not sure, ask someone, they are very tourist friendly.

Italian Train Tickets are very cheap because the Italian Train companies dont have to pay taxes on fuel.

    Horror Story about Frecciarossa 👇🏾
Took a train to Castel Gandolfo from Roma Termini. There was no announcement on the train and the train doors didn’t open.
Imagine! It was after 7, my hotel was messaging me that they don’t do check-ins after 7 pm and here I had reached the next train stop.
The train conductor was casual about it. He told me to travel till the last stop and then take a train back to Castel Gandolfo. Anyway, we trudged up the hill at Albano. Found a taxi and drove back to Castel Gandolfo.
When I tried to complain on twitter they sent a form to fill, which I have tried to fill and failed. I sent all details with tickets to Freccia twitter account but they won’t investigate.
Horrible experience. Italo is better and cheaper.
Italy still has a poor transport system.
