08:06 - Editing
13:26 - Sound Design
15:47 - Color Grading
Welcome to my step-by-step guide on how to create a cinematic tattoo B-roll video! In this comprehensive tutorial, I'll walk you through the entire process of planning, shooting, editing, color grading, and sound design. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned videographer, you'll find valuable tips and tricks to enhance your video production skills. This video was inspired by the epic broll videos @danielschiffer, @PeterLindgren1 and @Jamesmatthews have made in the past.
Planning:
The key to a successful shoot is meticulous planning. I'll share my approach to creating an effective shot list, inspired by Daniel Schiffer's method: Objects + Actions = Shots. Learn how to organize your ideas using the Apple Notes app for easy access on set.
Shooting:
Discover the techniques I used to capture stunning 1080p footage at 120fps. From manual focus to creative transitions, I'll explain how I achieved dynamic shots like whip pans and seamless in-camera transitions. Watch as I demonstrate the importance of repetition to get the perfect shot and how to handle continuity challenges.
Editing:
My editing process involves a unique method to speed up workflow and ensure precision. I'll show you how to use speed ramps, slow-motion effects, and optical flow in Final Cut Pro for smooth, cinematic visuals. Learn my techniques for building sequences, syncing to music, and utilizing transitions.
Sound Design:
Sound design can make or break your video. I'll break down my process into diegetic and non-diegetic sounds, adding depth and realism to your footage. Get tips on balancing sound effects with music using channel EQ and creating an immersive audio experience.
Color Grading:
Achieve a cool, dark mood with efficient color grading techniques. I'll guide you through using fixed white balance, color curves, and custom LUTs to enhance your video’s aesthetic. Learn how to make subtle adjustments to create a polished final product.

What was your favorite tip in this video? 😄
Brad! You did a PHENOMENAL job with this video, and it is going to be such a great resource not only for your subs but for new viewers who are looking at how they can improve their own work and the work they can do for their clients. These are the “hard” videos to make but they are the essence of what makes CZcams so great. 👏👏👏
Thanks so much Matthew! That means a lot 😄🙏🏼 It definitely was a tough one to make, but I want to make more of these kinds of videos. Thanks for watching! 👊🏼
So so great, Brad! You smashed this 🙌
Thanks so much man! That means a lot 😄🙏🏼
That was insane dude!! Can’t believe you packed all this into one video. Amazing work Brochacho
Thanks so much bro! There was a lot I wanted to cover 😅 Appreciate you watching 🤙🏼
Love it dude. The shot list idea is so adaptable for any medium and so important to any project's efficiency.
Dude, thanks so much for watching! 😄🙏🏼 Yeah that simple formula is such a great way to come up with a shot list 🙌🏼

This was hands down the best instructional video I have ever seen of a start to finish workflow! I am heading over to your shop right now to buy some of your product as a thank you! I truly appreciate your dedication to the craft!!!

Awesome video man! Really enjoyed watching this from start to finish 👌🏼
Glad you enjoyed it Justin! Appreciate you watching the whole thing. 👊🏼
@@Brad_West do you have any recommendations on lens to get super close shots of the tattoo needle
@@justinkd I used the Tamron 28-75mm in crop mode on the Sony A7iii which allowed me to get pretty close. If you wanted to get closer then you might want to consider a macro lens. Something like the Sony 90mm macro would be great if you shoot on Sony.
Wow , many thanks Brad👍👍 More with pleasure.
Thanks so much! Thinking about what my next subject will be 🤔
Amazing effort in putting this together! I know it was a lot of work! Final video was inspiring.
Thank you so much Mikey! Yeah it was a long time in the making 😅 Appreciate you watching!

@@Brad_West tattoo video is really awesome. Maybe you could say i have a lack of imagination but in my opinion it couldn’t be any better!
Great. This teaching format is perfect. From start to finish. Also you mentioned you could share more (if I’m correct) about planning transitions and your work with timeline and sound design.
Thanks for the feedback! I’ll definitely be doing a sound design video in the near future 😄🤙🏼
This is sick, Brad! Thank you for sharing. ONly thing I wasn't feeling is the McKinnon Era music
Thanks for watching 😄🤙🏼 Yeah the music choice might not be everyone’s vibe, but I appreciate the feedback.
Nice video! Can you share the camera settings you use for this video? Like Aperture, ISO, WB, etc. And if you shoot everything with the same settings? Thanks!
I shot almost everything at f/2.8 and with a daylight white balance (5600K). I tried to keep the ISO as low as possible at 200. But I did have to bump it up to 800 here and there.
I used a custom Cine4 profile. Similar to Cody Blue’s Cine4 profile. He did a video before breaking down his settings.
@@Brad_West Thanks for the info Brad! 🙏🏼🙌🏼
@alono4473 you’re welcome! 😄👊🏼
More like that plz.. can u do a gym b rol
Great suggestion! I’d love to do more of these. 💪🏼
The glove stretchy sound was a bit much for me. I have to get my rectal exam this year…
Sorry, didn't mean to give you PTSD 😅
