The CC, at least in the USA, destroys the handling, jacks the price up, and as of today they still haven't started deliveries of the V90. I'm about to just break down and get the S90 sedan, as they are heavily discounted and the V90 cross country and V90 will not be, due to low volumes. You have to order a V90 in the USA to get one, and they do not have ones on lots for test drives. No wonder they don't sell any.
Autogefühl. Hi Autogefühl, I have an idea for future videos. When you show the rear lights, could you show us what the signal lights and reverse lights look like? I would love to see that on the Volvo, and the new Bentley Continental 2018. Thanks for this review though. Beautiful car.

Wow, that blue R line is beautiful. Volvo is showing to all the other brands how to comeback with a fresh advanced lineup that is setting high standards in the industry. In spite of my initial fear of the acquisition by a Chinese company, Geely has done an amazing work in providing Volvo with enough resources and a clear strategy to reposition as a premium brand while keeping its Scandinavian unique design.
Very well presented with great attention to detail whilst asking people for their opinions. English spoken very well also. Well done.

I have ordered a Volvo S90 D4 Inscription which will arrive in October. I was so happy to see a review of the S90 with the tanned leather upholstery like the one I have ordered. All other reviews seem to go for what Volvo call the 'blond' colour. I can't wait to see this all in the flesh!

Why complain about the ride being soft and not sporty. But you refuse to put the settings in Dynamic where it would be firmer especially on the autobahn.
I second this, dynamic completely changed the whole behavior of the car when I drove the XC90 on the autobahn.
I think dynamic mode also firms up the steering.

LED lights flickering = not in real life, camera frame rate is better than those of the lights
PA2 comes on all MY17 XC90s which works up to 130km/h same as the S90. Got my R-Design T8 last week and it's an amazing car!
Hi Thomas, did you test the probleme of the head rest the fall down when you are sitting on the back sitts. You mention this problem on the volvo xc90. Tell me if they correct this problem that can injur. Great review as allways :-)
The T8 is the plugin hybrid? How much is it more than the T6? What's the electric range?
+kevin n yep, that's it. Smaller tank than T6 for petrol, 35km range from electric and slow charge only. Perfect for short work commutes.
It's 13k more her in Canada. I can't see it paying off except for in the hp dept and the feel good "I'm not polluting" dept.
In the current world, when auto makers are not focusing the car design budgets as such, Volvo came up with a beauty!

Just bought a used s90, absolutely love it
I have been driving the S90 a lot recent weeks and Thomas, why didn't you put it in dynamic on autobahn driving at high speed? Stiffens the steering significantly an improves stability at high speed. When i was comparing it to Audi A6 it felt at least as stable. In my opinion it is the best looking car in the class. Makes the S80 feel as modern as a Volvo 740.

Yes, no full leather for me if at all possible. Would prefer microfiber with fake leather, but at least they're not full leather. :) That's also one of the reasons for my choice to go with R-Design. Are you going to drive the R-Design version at some point? :)

Thank you Thomas for such a great in depth review. This really swung it for me in terms of choosing my car. I am now the proud owner of the S90 D4 Inscription in Osmium Grey with a beautiful amber interior. The seat are supportive and extremely comfortable without challenging rear seat space.This car is even more elegant in the flesh and drives like dream. A real cruiser not a racer; you have to drive this car and take in the luxurious ambience. Road presence is everything in this car. I took it out on the road and got many an admiring glance. I look forward to many motorway miles in hushed comfort.

2018 S90s can now be ordered. In the USA, they even have a weird European Delivery Program (OSD) for it. But, instead of picking up your S90 in Gothenburg, you get a 7-day free rental car, as your S90 gets shipped directly to your dealer from China. OSD offer lower prices and no delivery fee, and two FREE tickets to Gothenburg, 1 free night in the hotel (or 4 free nights and no car rental), lunch and factory tour. Sweet!

Nice car. 2 mistakes: 1) You are using the pilot assist in the wrong way. You dont have to keep your hands on the week. Just move the weel slightly when in warns you. You can even touch the week with your knee and it will accept it. 2) in sports mode also the suspention changes. You should have done the fast hight way ride in sports mode

I think that cars in this segment are so alike and technological advanced that the choice between cars in the upper class segment is based on the feeling of excitement that the design and refinement gives you. This one is my favourite car at the moment, and big cheers to you Thomas, I hope your work gets much more appreciation, because you desere this. Thanks Thomas! I really like this car, especially in the color combination of the test car. The only downside is the rear, I can't get used to it. I guess if I were in the market for this car, I would just buy the estate version for that reason..
I think Volvo is really doing the right thing recently. Also the choice to go for comfort instead of sportiness is a good decision I think. This seems to be a very relaxing, comfortable car to drive. It should find a lot of happy customers!
I don't know if they are planning a new S60, but if they are and when it's a smaller version of this car that would be very interesting!

Just WOW :) I'm always in love with Volvo timeless designs... So elegant, so beauty! To my mind S90 in sand color is the most luxurious looking but I really like grey color too. Saloon is just gorgeous! The most elegant and clean in all car industry (IMAO!). Agree with you Thomas that it's not necessary to put leather on the key. Please make one more short review with cloth interior. Want to hear your opinion about it's quality. Thanks a lot for perfect job :)

Very good video as always. I like how competent the reporter seems talking about the materials, functions and compositions. You guys at Autogefühl really do your homework wether it is a luxus model like this or one of the simpler cars. 1 hour review does not get boring.

As the Volvo S80 owner who is looking to change a car soon I will only considering S90. Not even looking to Audi, Mb or BMW. Huge jump from exterior, interior to high tech innovations. Just need to choose between Inscription and R-Design. Video is very informative. Thank you.
I always love the detail you go into on these cars. It is almost like sitting in one myself. Well done. Beautiful cars. I wish the V90 R-Design could be optioned with those Amber colored seats.
Volvo seems to equate black seats with sporty. They should offer all seat colors.
I take that blue R-design version with 22 inch wheels, what a beauty!
I have own car : Benz E class, Volvo s80, Hyundal Elantra , Masda old model , the most one I like is volvo to drive for all situations.

Hi Thomas, how does this car compares to the E-Class in term of noise insulation & overall cabin quietness?
S90 is fresh. Excepted the rear lights this is perfection. It really give to middle size high end sedan a fresh new design and a fantastic choice to be original like Gs450h or Q70. Volvo give a fantastic alternative to the eternal 3 germans.
Thanks Thomas, finally review of new Volvo s90. I find the car very beautiful. Really elegant design, and clear, high quality interior. For me this is the best looking car in the upper middle class. I like also the lazy, relaxing attitude of it. I don't think that every car have to be sporty, especially in this segment and swedish lifestyle is just like that- comfort, design and high quality.

The car is without doubt the most beautiful in the segment, really big like to the volvo desginers, the only problem is maybe the back of the sedan version, looks like something is missing there, maybe they should include some chrome elemets there aswell. Great detailed review of the S90. Especially liked the detailed driving aspects that were covered. I also own a 2019 S90 Momentum.
Compared to the Audi A6, I prefer the Audi but I am still impressed with the S90. Excellent technology. I have owned Volvos before, the one I enjoyed the most was the Volvo 850 which started a new design direction for Volvo years ago. Anyway, I love the wood and the Scandinavian clean design of the interior, and the attention to detail. I don't know if I like this trend of everything to go to touch screens. I prefer a mix of easy to access manual switches to be mixed in for very common functions that you want to quickly access. It seems most designs are moving toward everything on a screen. I prefer some real instruments on the dash as well - not everything a computer screen. Temp controls for example I prefer more conventional controls...one gets tired of maneuvering through touch screens. I also like Audi choice to avoid the touch screen, I find its more intuitive the way Audi does it and easier to do while driving without getting too distracted. Anyway, another top class review!

Excellent review Thomas, no surprise there. I was, however, somewhat taken aback by your choice of song when demonstrating the stereo - a fast paced electronic dance mix - Made me picture you in a strobe lit club skillfully dancing to the rapid tempo of that song. Maybe shirtless (All inked up haha) flashing glowsticks around blowing a whistle or something. So that my friends MUST be the Thomas we don't have the fortune of knowing when he isn't busy making the best car reviews on the web. Or atleast thats what I assume based on the song he picked. 😂😂😂

Thomas, Pilot Assist does not deactivate when you use the turn signal. Lane keeping (auto steering) is temporarily suspended but the ACC component remains active. Lane keeping resumes automatically when the turn signal is deactivated.
thx 4 the info, what I meant by that is that the auto pilot system is not entirely working anymore, to differentiate it against the mercedes e-class system for example where lane changing is possible!
I understand but I would describe it differently. The only difference in functionality is that the Mercedes system steers to execute the indicated lane change while the S90 driver has to steer manually.
Hope somebody order the base model with those 21'' for me bcus i wanna get it used in 2 or 3 years lol

Thanks for yet another great review. I am a swede living in Gothenburg where Volvo is developed. I have been driving BMW 5-Series cars for the last ten years but I have now ordered a V90 D5 Inscription in saphire black metallic with the same trim in amber and wood as the one you test drove in the video. Great to finally be able to see what it looks like. Looking forward to you testing the D5 engine in a V90.

By far the best review of the S/V90 on YT, excellent work Thomases. Really need to have a special car to compete in this demanding segment. Clearly a much better designed, built and engineered car than the S80 (which looked like it had been rushed by Ford). Not sure if its special enough though, and certainly this is no project Series 700 that revolutionised the brand. Full marks to Geely for having faith, it's definitely in the pack.

These reviews are the most sensible and complete reviews one can find nowadays. Wir sprechen Deutsch, deshalb verstehen wir alles, and though the 'English' is 'German', the review's modus operandumeven is better than Fith Gear. Rainer Günzler may have been corrupt, but the German reviews were born with him, and the inherited thourroughness is very clear.
I, personally, wouldn't buy that 'assist drive', yet, still too rudimentary and unnecessary because of false security feeling.

This S90 does look good only let down for me is the engine choice on offer, all of its main competitors offer 6 and 8 cylinder models...

I have now seen the car in person and i got to say the car looks much better. The rear is not as bad as many thinks.
I wish it had the same lane assist semi autopilot system in the E Klasse. Still an amazing car Volvo has been really on the cutting edge since the new XC90.

Like most cars today, the estate looks better than the sedan. It used to be the other away around. Volvo has really done it with these new ones, interesting to see the smaller cars in the future! Excellent design from Sverige ;-)
Great review. I am still waiting to be able to see the S90 personally. I had doubts about the back but watching S90 in the network, reading the comments I see that once again work the old rule - Volvo looks better live than in the pictures or in catalogs. Regards! :)

I decided to purchase a 2015 Volvo XC70. It does have the upgraded LCD tachometer. I've only had one issue with it that corrected itself (screen blanked out completely for about 5 miles while driving). My issue with upgrading to these models with the IPAD style digital center display and tach screen is maintenance. The reliability of having knobs to adjust frequently used items like radio and AC systems are comforting. The dark wood inlays are simply beautiful in my 2015 XC70 that surround the center display. To much technology I think takes away from natural beauty of late model Volvo interior. Just my opinion.

Maybe Volvo should have also designed a Thor hammer themed rear tail lamps with the sedan?, but honestly it is good and distinctive. Have to say the estate would be my pick. I really hope this car does well for Volvo, it is a really fresh and unique take on the executive car and certainly an interesting and alternative choice. Its nice to see a genuinely good luxury car that isn't German for a change (Nothing against German cars btw...I LOVE the Merc E class!) The limited engine choices may put some off but it seems really good value against the competition. Really made me :-D to hear Thomas mention the ASMR from the wood trim!

Great review indeed, neutral highlighting both the good and the better parts of the two cars :)
The sound engineers in Torslanda tried to capture the sound acoustics of the Gothenburg opera house for the new xc90 and derived the result into the s/v90.
Regarding the license plate of the test car, the way the three letters sound, would relate to a gentleman's sausage.
True, the regular settings aren't sporty, it's more for woftying around in silence and comfort rather than the boy racer attitude to race between the lights.
Unless the 450hp engine comes soon, then you can ignore my last statement.
