- A much needed update on whats going on. There are an infinite number of directions that a business can go in the future and it can be overwhelming. I choose to be excited to see what happens. I'm planning on investing in three areas. Some sort of software to increase efficiency. Additional people to help get work done faster. More printing capacity to speed up printing during busy times. Wohoo!
I am 74 years old.Been in the printing business since 1981. 25 of those years was my own shop. Now retired & just tired. Enjoy your videos. Keep them coming when you can.
Will do, I'll happily entertain you. Take it easy my friend!
How was your experience running print business in terms of numbers over the years and connections you have made. I am canada looking to start one soon
Similar pathway, but with UK and international experience. It's been interesting to see how printing has changed through electronic/computerization. From letterpress to digital, how life changes; glad to leave the burn for others. Living life until my stamina runs down, love seeing this guy's firm develop. 🙏🇪🇺🍷🇬🇧🇫🇷👍
I’m 27 years in my man 😂
Konica Minolta Production Print Tech here. I recently found your channel. Your train on thought running a print shop is helping me understand your view. Keep posting.
Can I have your email . I have a few problems that I would need a Konica tech to help me with
Would love to have It too
As a former printer who had to shut it down due to loosing $$$$ and having a disabled child to take care of, it gives me so much joy and hope to see you loving what you do.
I have wonderful memories of dealing with clients who were impossible to satisfy as well as some who knew exactly what they wanted and were satisfied with the end results.
Keep up the great work and entertain us with new videos often!
So glad to see you back your content is so informative 😊
I'm from Brazil and I also have a digital printing business, your videos are great! Don't stop recording! A hug from Brazil!
I work at a small printshop, we have 2 canon imagepress. An oce plotwave, hp plotter, an oce Arizona gt 365 and two konika printers. One just b/w and another color. Sometimes I have four of those machines running at once. That’s how I get my steps in for my Fitbit 😂 I just saw your channel. Enjoy it. I’m glad there are other cool print shops.
I genuinely love your content so much. I feel like I have no business being here as i've never worked in printing/publishing but I find this all so facinating and your videos are a cozy watch for me. I've been making hand-bound books for a year now and I appreciate seeing the ins and outs of a commercial print-shop, and I feel like its helped to elevate what i've been able to produce at home. Very glad to see you're back and doing so well!
🎉👍You have inspired and trained me with you videos over the last 2 years.... they are great
Brother I loved watching your videos so much, I went off and got my own Xerox Altalink C8030, booklet makers, trimmers, and more. Just to print my own things and have a great time. So glad to see you popped back in but it would be so great if you dropped a video now and again
I missed your insight into the printing business. Welcome back!
Really glad to see you back 😊 been in the print business since 1986 mostly the bank note & security printing side.
Now most of my work is NCR so love seeing how you do yours compared to me.
Sir, Very happy to watch your video again after long time.
Happy to see you back Brother
I can learn anything, but not by reading a manual. These are my kind of educational materials. Glad to see an update. 👍🏼
Thanks for watching!
Hello sir, glad to see you again! Dont scrap those Ultra+ printers. I keep an Ultra+ and an Ultra running with over 100 million clicks apiece. They still run great but require the usual periodic maintenance. Parts for the Titans work in those older printers. You probably need new charge grid assemblies, OPC belts, and TTF belts. Youll need someone with a laptop configured with Oce Robin/Porthos to connect to them to run the necessary adjustments. Good luck!
The laptop is the problem. I'll keep searching for someone. But honestly just am ready to move to a machine that I have control over. I only spent a few thousand dollars on my Ultras so no loss there. Just a shame since they are in such good condition.
I love your videos, I always stay tuned for new ones. Greetings from Mexico!
Thank you very much!
Just started in a corporate print room about a year ago. We have a 3070 and I'm a one man operation. I love seeing all the trouble shooting videos on the Konicas, keep 'em coming please. Also would love to see more on the fiery program.
Hi there. I'm not in the printing business but i absolutely love your videos. Your passion and dedication to your family and business is inspiring and always motivate me.
Good to see you back Friend!
Happy to see a new video, Dan! So glad you’ve been busy and doing well. As far as recommendations go, I’ve always been a Ricoh guy, so I’d recommend the new c9500 for color work. You could probably replace all three of those smaller color machines with one. As you know it always comes down to service, so it depends on what’s reliable in your area. Web to Print, I would say PageDNA. Little expensive but very nice suite. Those continuous inkjet machines are amazing, but I’m not sure you have enough space there. Would make things easier for finishing going roll to finish. Glad you’re back!
Glad to be back. Thanks for all of those tips, I really appreciate them!
I would have to agree on both Ricoh and PageDNA!
Glad to see you're doing well. You're efforts and explanations are most appreciated and also inspiring to a young offset printer who's trying to keep the family business going. Watching from Trinidad 🇹🇹
Awesome! Have fun!
Family is so important and im glad it's been a blast for you. I really enjoy your videos as im a small Midwest printer too. Please continue whenever you have the time!
Web to print it tough and I dont have the answer for that, sadly!
Web to print is so overwhelming. Sooner or later I'm just going to have to try another one and hope it works.
Welcome and glad you are fine and back to youtube
In New Zealand in a small family copy/print shop. Been in print since 1977 and still learning. Especially from vids like yours. Enjoying the journey. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
10 year by myself, cad plotting, your videos give me something to keep growing. From El Salvador! 🇸🇻
Thanks for the update. Greetings from PNG 🇵🇬
Nice to see you back....
Great to see you back! Look into OCE they are a partner with Canon. Dual Fusers so it prints front and back at the same time! Tanks!
I wish i can work around you.
I have started a small printing business for a year now. I have a lot to learn. I am very interest to see your video always.
Welcome back, Dan! I hear you on the busy times, but yes you need to concentrate on what is most important. Am also feeling the need to do some upgrades and make changes in my shop. It's always somethin'!
I missed all of you guys!
Great to see you again, Greetings from Germany. My Printing Shop is nearly a one men show and i can feel your thoughts about employees. Its difficult to get good and trusted people. BTW i loved your repairing vids. Keep on.
Will do, thanks!
Its good to see you back Dan! Because of your videos i can keep up printing on my 6500 here in Brasil, and yet made some videos to help some folks who have this machine but in portuguese hahahah, i had to thank you for your videos!
Thats awesome! Glad to help.
I'm from India and I love watching your videos. I checked the channel often looking for new videos. It would be great if you update often at least some short videos. Keep Printing Keep Growing.
Yeeeee! Welcome back Dan. I feel like you've been here because I always watch your videos for inspiration or for reference. You've not changed but your shop has. Can't wait to see how your c3070 is doing
Thanks! The 3070 is chugging along. I'm glad to be back!
Hey! Great to see you back here on the Tube.
Love to see your shop in full production.
Over here in the UK I have taken the 1st steps down a digital print road. We have always been just a litho printer but now have invested in a Konica 4065. It's amazing how versatile this is. 6 months in and 600,000 on it's clock. I'm finding more and more work for this machine
Very cool! They are little workhorses that like to run. Thanks for posting!
Dannnn!!! What a happiness! See you again... I'm excited to know you are doing well, even so i knew that because the good workers are always busy.
Really interesting your new project, I'll wait for your decision to take the mine too. 😂.
Success!!!!
Glad to be back my friend!
Welcome back! I'm glad to hear everything is going well. We miss you and your vids. Keep us updated on all your big decisions!
Thank you! Will do!
I'm very glad to see your new videos on the channel. I've been working for myself for 17 years, producing a slightly different type of product, but also in the printing industry. You inspire me a lot. Keep releasing videos. Good luck and strength to you. With respect and regards, Victor from Siberia, Russia.
Glad to be back. Thank you for the kind words!
Hi! I absolutely love your videos. I've been binge watching them over and over again since ~february.
Have you ever considered doing a long timelapse of one of your machines? Or, what about an hour long ASMR? I'm sure I would watch the whole thing, just because!
It would also fill in a gap. There's like one decent printer ASMR video on YT.
I've also learned quite a lot about servicing Sharp copiers recently, and I'm so freaking nerded out and excited about it - just like you! Thank you!
Glad to hear from you Dan, when your in a business like you and I (not printing) and don't hear from some one your mind kinda wanders. Was hoping nothing happend. Glad to see the printing business is good for you. I hit a really bad low, Struggling through it. Mind going in all sorts of directions. Anyway Glad to hear from you again and I understand about the youtube thing. Family always comes first. Fire brother from Ohio!
Good to hear from you brother! Hope you pull through your struggle a better, stronger man my friend. Life is tough.
Good to see you back, your videos have always been interesting.
Glad you like them!
I discovered your channel very recently, but thanks to you I got a clearer idea of how to improve our family business. With best wishes from the heartland of Russia.
Glad you hear you got some new ideas from me!
Happy to see you again. Greeting from The Czech Republic.
Thanks!
Dan, love watching the videos I recommend printsmith for your MIS really great at helping capture cost while quoting professionally and quickly they have w2p integration as well. I have not personally use that but our shop has use printsmith for 26 years and could not do with out it. I would say make sure you are raising your prices enough each year / quarter so much of demand can be throttled using price with out having to buy more equipment we have km 3080 I am looking at the 7100 as a possible upgrade.
Hi, its so great to have you back. I've been missing your wonderful posts. But we've got to remember that "all work and no play, makes Johnny a dull boy." In a sense, you have 2 families, your human family and the shop. But perhaps, also a third - your viewers. All require your attention to some degree, yet I can much appreciate putting your human family at the top of the list. I won't ramble on except to say "best wishes"!
So true! Thanks for your wise words!
Glad your back ! I grew up in the printing business and have witnessed the changes from letterpress thru digital. I am 63 years old and I think this digital printing age we are in is the best time we have ever had. I enjoy your videos and have learned quite a bit from you. Keep them coming!
I agree, new tech is always rolling out to make my life easier. Tons of opportunity and automation.
Welcome back! I sent an email just to check in. Glad to see you're back! You were missed.
Yay! Thank you!
So glad your back
Missed your videos. Glad you're back. Enjoy the content.
Hey, thanks!
Watched a few of your videos, and I always come back to the same thought: I bet a lot of people wonder "where is everybody?" I have been in commercial printing since 1985, was in commercial web till 1999 when I was recruited to a sheetfed printer. Ran that company till 2015 when the corporate owner family sold all 46 properties. I now run a digital only shop similar to yours.
There is now only 3 of us. I do almost everything, from sheet printing on our Ricoh, envelopes on the Xante (will they ever fix their feeding system???) to cutting/boxing/shipping... to doing all of the accounting, most of the job estimating, and all of the prepress work as well.
But anyway - the answer to "where is everyone?" -- welcome to small digital shops everywhere. We do it all.
Love this channel.
Thanks Dan, watching this vid about getting extra manpower really hit me. Hopefully i can pay for more extra manpower oteher than myself and get me more options to what can i do more for my print business. Thanks for giving me hints about printshop that i don't even think about before.
Glad to help!
Always enjoy your videos and manage to learn something every time. If you have time, could you share insights regarding paper storage and inventory control, etc.? Thanks very much and Happy New Year.
Welcome back! Greetings from Greece. For the equipment upgrade, I would suggest you the accuriopress 7090. Fast, reliable, excellent quality. You won't have any difficulty in using it, everything is set like the smallest series of Konika (1060, 2070, etc.). In addition, you can get the big tray and print up to 900 mm.
That is a great little machine for sure. Great suggestion!
I'm glad you haven't forgotten the Holy Trinity, Family, Business and CZcams fans.
LOL, you got it!
Good to see you back, Dan! 💪🏻💪🏻
Printers Bridge is awesome web to print! Maybe look for a machine that can handle a plockmatic for booklets. It’s saddle stitch but you can square the spine.
Printers Bridge is nice, I did try that one a few years back. Sending jobs to 4over is the best feature!
Happy to see you posting again Dan.
Hey, thanks!
Hey Dan, here in Brazil we were missing you too! You are a kind of role model here, so I'm happy to see you again. Welcome back!!!!
Hey, thanks!
Glad to see You're back. So inspiring to watch. Look forward to follow....
Thanks!
@@justaprinter is there any new video
Good to see you again, Dan! I popped in right away when I just it’s you!
Glad to be back!
We’ve been looking too but we have almost settled on one today called Printer Bridge. Haven’t tried it yet but we like the functionality and cost.
Nice to see You back Dan, keep inspiring us. Greetings from Croatia.😃
Thank you!
So nice to see you back on CZcams!! 🎉❤
Thank you!! 😊
Glad to see you are back. One massive machine would make a huge impact on larger color works. but i would still keep all small machines. Family first, job second.
have a great time printing. later
Totally agree to everything you just said!
Greta to see you back.
We missed you! We liked your videos! No reasons for apologies. Thanks!
I missed everyones comments!
Welcome back! Glad to see you keeping well. Looking forward to watching your new videos
Thank you!
If you want more business, you should really give more details about how people can become your client here on your channel. I've been scouring your videos looking for some info on how to send you an order but I haven't found ANYTHING, and it's especially wild since 37k subscribers is nothing to sneeze at. Some marketers would KILL for your level of reach and you're not using it!
He has plenty of business I think
Thanks for the update. Sometimes you HAVE to put the most important things first. We have been using Konica Minoltas for the past 10 years or so. We only have one and updates are made when the salesman comes up with a good offer. The service techs are top notch. I think I made a mistake last year when I agreed to go into our bindery department and replace someone who was leaving. I mainly operate the folder and occasionally help with the book machine. Unfortunately, I still have many of the responsibilities that I had outside of pre-press and a lot less time to do them. So much still to learn and understand. Not used to standing all day long either.
Standing all day certainly takes it out of you. I agree Konica Techs are great! Thanks for the comment.
Have seen a few of your videos and will be watching more as I’m setting up small shop, and will be dealing with many of the same daily shop stuff.
I looked at your patreon for the spreadsheets but wondering if new content will be coming there also
Interesante. Sí, sólo he oído cosas buenas sobre Ricoh.
good to see you back Dan!
Glad to be back!
I have been following your channel for some time now, I really like the way you explain how things are done. I was wondering if as a new bee to printing business where one should start and what would be the basics one should know and how much to invest as a starter recommended machines to use.
Thanks
Automating your workflow is a move that should benefit your shop & web to print, done right, will grow your biz.. You also mention adding new/used gear and I can see you’re entering a space where inkjet might be on the horizon for consideration. Sheetfed or continuous - sheetfed is the lowest entry point. Canon makes both and you will get PRISMAsync controllers. I don’t work for Canon anymore (retired) and I don’t know where you’re located, but I do know it costs nothing to inquire. You really should.
PS: love your channel.
I think your next video should be a photo montage of all your best memories with the 1200, with Sarah McLachlan’s I Will Remember You playing in the background
LOL. I'm tearing up just thinking about it. :)
Happy to have you back brother.
Much appreciated
wow...very glad you are back
Me too!
So glad your back!
Thanks!
HI! Glad you're back🥳
Me too!!
Welcome back. *Huge virtual hug*
Thank you!
Glad to see you back. We are having simmilar issue on our 8285 machine. but only on skaned documents or images. Issue is not visible on mostly textual PDF files.
Interesting....Hmm.
I would go on the path that I know it's going to get me where I need. I saw that you knew how to fix up yourself the 1200 and because of that I suggest to look after a Konica 6136. I'm currently planning to buy one, seems very reliable and fairly similar to the old machines. Glad to see you back!
Great advice. I agree that Konica is my happy place that I am comfortable with.
Good choice on the 6136, they are bulletproof and the web interface works great.
Glad you’re back! I’ve got two young children, so I understand juggling the print shop and family life. We brought on a Xerox Iridesse a couple of years ago, it’s been a beast for us. Just runs all day long. Have had smaller secondary presses, but most of the time we don’t have to use them.
Curious to see what you end up with!
The Iridesse is a nice box for sure. Glad it working out for you.
I miss your videos, really enjoy these. I work for county government, and have 2 2070 , and 1 1250 KMs. We are replacing them in the next 2 weeks for newer models. Too bad you’re not close by, that 1250 is going out for auction and it has less than 1 million clicks.
Glad you’re back!
I’m interested in what you choose for the job management software, been thinking about that as an option for a while.
I’ve just had two Konica 4065 presses fitted in our print place - they’re very impressive although very similar to the 3070.
I shall keep an eye on your progress.
So many MIS options out there. I think most of them would work fine.
So happy to see you. Here, have another comment to tell the algo there's "he's back" hype and hopefully overcome the "let's file channels that post infrequently in the cabinet that has its opening at the top" thing CZcams likes to do.
PS: As someone for whom those machines seem like magic, I'd be interested in a video explaining how they manage to pick up a single sheet of paper and keep it moving straight and where it's supposed to go. I mean, the collator makes sense with its vacuum separation, but those presses and office printers...
Thanks, thats a great idea. I should certainly talk about that sometime. It is amazing!
Nice to see you back
Thanks!
Happy to see you again
Thanks!
Welcome back Dan!! Been missing you, have looked for you several times!
Glad I am appreciated! :)
@@justaprinter you really are Dan!
Good to see you back
Thank you!!
Family first!!! I love your priorities.
I have lightly used KM stuff for sale.
I've sold a few web to print solutions.
I've sold workflow solutions.
It's a lot... Reach out if you need opinions. I'm not a sales guy btw just willing to help.
Dan! The man!! Welcome back! 🎉
Thank you!!
Had a Canon copier I bought years ago refurbished. One day, it just stopped working and no techs could do anything about it. A bit disturbing thinking Canon may have just decided to EOL the machines and kill my equipment.
On the upside, I ordered a new Konica that should be arriving in the next few weeks. It is only a copier, not a press (quieter and lower quantity).
Glad to see your videos are back again.
Yes, it is a huge bummer that someone else can cut you off of running machines. I see what they do it, but I don't like it.
Welcome back! Good to have you back but I completely understand you leaving us by the wayside for a bit. Time (with loved ones) is much more precious than money (or video clicks..).
I recently took over the small printing company I've been working for for 17 years and you won't believe how much I've learned and how much inspiration I get from from watching your videos. I am a one man and a wonderful wife show at the moment, but I know I need to invest in hiring somebody next year. By far the scariest thing I need to do since becoming a business owner! If you have time I look forward to seeing more videos on running your business it really helps me improve mine.
Enjoy the family and thanks again.
Edwin
Glad to help my friend. Sounds like a lot of fun!
@@justaprinter it sure is. It is good to be the boss 😉
Welcome back, glad to ses you again
Thanks!
Glad to see you back bro
Thanks!
Great to see you back on the tube, I'm in the UK and just upgraded to a new konica c4065 and it just runs and runs and runs, it's the first time I've ever bought brand new and so far i am very impressed for less than £20,000.
Hey there, I'm in the UK to and have recently got myself a C4065.
It's my 1st step into digital print as I run a litho print shop. wow has it impressed me, just so versatile. This digital print thing might just catch on :-)
I can echo the positive reviews on the 4065. Had two fitted in September. I own a label printing business in the U.K.
Nice, looks like a lot of people like the 4065. I haven't heard of that model. I need to look at what Konica has been doing, LOL.
family first. the company im with (litho, wide format and small format digi) are now top heavy with finishing mainly on digital and are looking into adding a balance of more efficient equipment and people. its a tricky balance. welcome back.
Welcome back again...;-)
Hey Nice to see you dude. Seasons Greetings
